Despite an agreement by the Central Bank of Nigeria and Bankers Committee to suspend the lay-offs in banks across the country due to the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Access Bank has continued to dismiss its staff.
A man, whose wife worked for a branch of the bank in Oyo State for eight years and got retrenched, told SaharaReporters that the move was contrary to the decision of the CBN.

He said, "My wife was let go by Access Bank and from all indications, the bank is trying to override CBN's directive to suspend the letting go of staff.

This woman worked very hard, in the rain and sun for eight years. She has been crying uncontrollably and I'm worried because she just put to bed.

"When she went to work yesterday, she was asked to leave the environment and her ID was forcefully collected. She was also not given an exit for to sign."
The bank’s GMD/CEO, Herbert Wigwe, on April 30, told shareholders at the Annual General Meeting that, "Access Bank was well prepared for COVID-19 early enough and created ways of working from home and working with our customers.
We set up links with our customers and devised ways of reaching out to them three or four times a day.

"This happened even before we started working with the larger society and it enabled us to start fighting this pandemic.”

But days later, the bank began to let go of its staff without warning.

I don't know why Nigerian elites like lying.
Why don't you say the truth and damn the consequences.
They realise that going forward with the mass sack will affect them badly cos many people will go panic and withdraw their money from the bank so they get in contact with CBN, thereby feeding us wrong information to calm us but still go ahead with the sack but now, it is done in piece meal.
I have nothing to say to them.
We the electorates are the problem.
By 2023 we will be supporting party instead of individual.

Access bank is heartless.

Indeed everything in this country was designed to enrich the elites.

How can a company comfortablely cough out #1billion to support an institution that doesn't deserve it then went ahead to leave their staff with crumbs as if that was not enough they lay off a bigger chunk at a time when this people need them

Don't know what to believe again. Having said dat d sacked employee was not a staff of Access bank but that of ICS Consulting who outsourced her to Access bank. It was still ICS Consulting that fired her. Until we stop all these outsourcing or contract staffing , d banks will be using this window so created to be laying off staff and u can't sue them cos they were never your employer in d first place

Technically, Access bank didn't sack her as she was never an Access Bank staff. ICS did!

Take this case against Access Bank even to International Court of Justice at the Hague and you will still lose.

Contract staffing is the biggest evil in the Nigerian corporate society. I was once a victim. Over 200 of us laid off with just one month pay.

I sympathize with the affected. Boom most often than not, comes after gloom. I can testify to that. Keep believing
