I'm planning a West African road tour for late 2021 and my research proves what you said about Fulanis not being indigenous Nigerians. My return trip from Senegal will put me in the northern corridor of lower West Africa. Fulanis are all over that area outside Nigeria.

For someone even serious there's no reason to come online and start ranting about leaving Nigeria or how Nigeria is bad. He should just go get a visa and leave already. No one is holding any one back, it's not as if Nigeria is like North Korea where the government forbids people from leaving.

Regarding solar, my 5KVA system cost only N1.5M and I have 24/7 light. Return ticket to USA/Canada alone is more than that.

The reason why I'm very vocal on this threads is that I don't want the ones that are planning to leave to make the ones that are staying, or can't afford to travel, to be dismayed or depressed. Nigeria is good, very good. She's also bad, very bad. But I look for the good in things.

Nigeria problem is simply the people that infested her. If you switch the population of Nigeria with that of California then Nigeria will be better than California under 5 years. And California will be in complete ruin within that 5 years too.

But what do I know. I've put in my tour of duty and just watch the next generation of leaders

See this one o. I am the op in question and yes I am 30 years old, and yes I do know the realities of life probably more than you. You see, I never said to make it in an instant, you are just the one mouthing it, and you think I don't know the cost of travel? Maybe you are highly mistaken o as I have travelled abroad severally, so I know all the expenditure and peculiarities involved. Again, stop presuming, I am certainly not depressed or anything, to the contrary, I am in the Nigerian sense living very good, I have a very good paying job, I have my own manageable ride etc but you see, I am not delusional. I can clearly with my own two eyes see that this country is disgusting and disfunctional. You talked about using 5million to setup solar power in my house instead of travelling with it, what then is the use of the government if I will have to provide electricity by myself? Also you thinking as a typical Nigerian will conveniently not think of the rest of the people. If I am able to provide electricity for myself, what about the remaining citizens of this country? you see where the Nigerian mentality is so messed up right? And if you were exposed enough, you will realize that it's not only about electricity. What about health? should I also build a hospital for myself too? what about quality education? what about security? water supply? Maybe I should sink my own borehole right? if I will have to do all these by myself, what then is the benefits of being a Nigerian? and again, if I can afford to provide all these to myself, what about more than 90% of Nigerians that can't afford such? I will live you with this, it's not a matter of how much you will spend to immigrate, or whatever, it's about dignity of life, future prospects for your children, comfort of life and so many more. Nigeria has failed it's citizens woefully

You've said it all when I mentioned to him that he can actually get constant solar for less than a million, he became enraged that I'm a typical selfish Nigerian . What stops him from also supplying to other neighboring homes since he's selfless? he said it's government duty, a well traveled man doesn't know that people live OFF grid all over the world to cut cost? if you pick one thing they will counter you and twist your words. Am I paying his ticket money? I just tried to tune his mind a bit, if light is your problem you can get 24/7 if you want pending when you move, that was a reason to call me selfish. My question is why should I have to? And if everyone would have to live off grid, why then do we have a government? Why do we also have a country? Lol i left for Canada last December. My salary at my suit and tie job back in Naij ( i won't call it home) was just under N200k per month.

I just calculated the income i received this month after taxes. Your boy netted N1,700,000 (6,200 CAD). I'm not even doing a professional job. I don't have a boss. I sleep and wake up when i want. I go to work when i want. I can take a month off ( not any time soon tho ) and return and still continue making money.

One caveat tho is that i worked every single day to make this. Day and Night. But i enjoy the job so it's nothing to me. Plus making good money is so addicting. I don't anticipate i'll clear this much after tax going forward but i can still net over 1 mill a month if i choose to.

The West is truly the land of opportunity. Dream come true.

1. You have a US passport and I will venture to say you will NEVER renounce it or give it up. Why not? That passport allows you to leave to any major country whenever, without the indignity of applying for visas, an opportunity not open to others.

2. That passport effectively allows you to be first to be repatriated by the US government if Nigeria ever descends into full chaos. What recourse do others here have?

3. You likely enjoy social security payments constantly. That means regardless of how well your Nigerian investments perform, you will always have a monthly income that far outstrips your cost of living in Nigeria. The others here?

4. Your children are all in the US, enjoying a good government safety net. That reduces your expenses in that regard. Many here still have children to support.

It’s easy to see the good in Nigeria, while clinging to all the benefits of being a US citizen.

The world is getting off grid. I’m off grid in Ibadan.

Healthcare wise, live good, eat good. Register at a private clinic. Do preventative checkups. Don’t drive like a slowpoke or take unnecessary risks. Minimize your exposure. The government can’t take care of everything.

Many people in the USA don’t have health insurance and can’t go to hospital and use emergency room as their primary care.

Stop scoffing food cooked with palm oil, stop buying fruits from aboki that stored it in gutter.

I've been in the US 15 years and i would never recommend anyone to stay in Nigeria if there is a way to leave. You are "enjoying your own perspective" safe in the knowledge that if anything happens, you can always come back to the US and take advantage of social security and medicare. These are not available to the people you are misleading here.

In my own opinion, yes it’s pretty bad. Based on my own personal and individual research. To live successfully in Nigeria I made a list of must haves and mustn’t haves.
