Dahiru Saleh, the judge who pronounced the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, is dead.

Details of his death are sketchy but TheCable understands that he died in Bauchi state and would be buried in his hometown of Azare, still in Bauchi on Thursday evening.

Until his death, he held the title of “Mutawallen” of Katagum emirate in Bauchi. He was the chief judge of the federal capital territory (FCT) high court.

June 12, 1993 election was adjudged as one of the most credible in the history of the country.

MKO Abiola, the Social Democratic Party candidate, defeated Bashir Tofa, his National Republican Convention rival, by a wide margin but the exercise was cancelled ahead of the final announcement of results.

This threw the country into months of chaos as protesters hit the streets, calling on Ibrahim Babangida, then the military president, to step down.

The Judge who annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election, presumed to be the freest and fairest in the nation’s history, Dahiru Saleh, is dead.

According to Cable.Ng, he was buried in Azare, his hometown, in Bauchi on Thursday evening.


Until his death, he held the title of “Mutawallen” of Katagum emirate in Bauchi.

Chief MKO Abiola, who was recognised as an elected President posthumously by President Muhammadu Buhari, of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was leading Bashir Tofa, his National Republican Convention rival, by margin wide before Saleh ruled to cancel the final announcement.

What followed was months of protests, which forced Military President Ibrahim Babangida, to finally “step aside”.

Abiola was later incarcerated and died in detention on July 7, 1998.

..Yorubas where the biggest saboteurs of June 12 and MKO Abiola.Abiola was hated by the Awoist Yoruba political group. They saw him as a traitor because of his alliance with Shagari and the NPC in the 1979 elections that Awolowo lost by a landslide.

They NEVER supported him and where only after milking him dry during his campaign. When he won the election, these same back stabbers where more surprised than any one in Nigeria.Yoruba Obas, Politicians, leaders and academics all paid homage to Abacha and were regularly on his payroll.

They were even jostling for VP position to Abacha in his ill fated civilian transition. Even your Tinubu was shortlisted by Abacha after he lobbied Chagoury for the position- reason why a close business associate and political lobbyist, money launderer and international fixer of Abacha is till this day both a close friend and business associate of Tinubu.

You Yorubas should stop blaming Abacha, Igbos, the north for the annulment of June 12 after all an Igbo man was the umpire of that election which has been adjudged the best and freest in Nigeria's history.June 12, just like Biafra FAILED because of internal treachery by Yorubas and Igbos respectively.
