If this "Akachi" road passes that area where you have the moulded hand of God, then I'll say a big kudos to Rochas.

We laughed at it, made jest of it, but truth is, he had very good ideas about Owerri. One of his major achievements is creation of new roads in areas you won't ever believe a road could be created.
Nobody laughed at it except mostly Mbaise people and PDP members who were making efforts to discredit Okorocha because of zoning thereby selling falsehood to the gullible outsiders. This Akachi road was built out of a messed up area used as garbage dump site but is now one of the highbrow areas of Owerri. The road was good but Ihedioha scraped it in order to stiffle Royal Palm Hotel owned by Okorocha's wife located along the road.

Today only one lane is in use because of the scraping.

Looooooooooooooooooool, this is funny. I noticed it in the pix he uploaded. Thought that thing is supposed to be made of concrete, how in the hell was it taken away, or did it fall and break?

... "Built out of a garbage dumpsite", you are very very correct.

I knew that area before the road was built and was really surprised a road could be built through that side.

Mehn, person wey comot that thing na slowpoke o. Last time I went home, that hand was visible from VARIOUS parts of the state.

I heard negative things about it before I travelled, but when I saw it, I was wondering why the negativity. The stuff looked really cool. Imagine a park is created around it (as someone adviced on this thread), it'll make sense a lot.

Abeg, let them bring it back and create a park around it.

nice one. But the initial creation wasn't a park rather an adoration ground or pilgrim center. You were right when you said you hear negative things about the place before the construction of the Akachi tower. That place use to be an eyesore, dump site for more than 30yrs before it was cleared and built by Rochas government.

It baffled me when Ihedioha wanted to destroy it claiming that it was the owner of the land that made the attempt and the question that came to my mind was; where was the owner of the land since the past 30yrs the land was abandoned and used as a dump site? Ihedioha believed that what was affecting him and his government was coming from the tower and the Akachi.

It will be fine if the present governor converts it to an amusement park as you suggested and built more eyebrowing structures to make it more attractive. That place has potential of attracting international tourist.

Adoration ground ke. Abeg o, it'll just bring unnecessary traffic to that area. I once thought the army used it for training or something like that.

I have a feeling the lands there belong to the government, if that's true there should be a strong stance against land grabbers and any building constructed there should be demolished without remorse.

Please, there is this road leading from Chukwuma Nwaoha, off MCC to Mbaise road, I think the government should look into it. Last time I lodged in that area, I discovered the road leads into a kinda big pit filled with water. If constructed, it'll be a shortcut for people for people passing through MCC road to Mbaise road instead of going to the end and turning.

Bro, the land is duly secured now. That was one good thing Emeka did I love so much. Infact, he fenced the land. But the main issue now is if the present government will give proper attention to it and harness it's tourist potential.

The construction of the site is a very good development and I wish it is put in proper use. Soon, that area will be one of the best area in Owerri considering the river, the landscape and other natural things that are found in that axis. I used to take it as a park until someone said they went there for baptism and the recent interview granted to Rochas on channels television confirmed that it is a pilgrim center. Whichever way, it will be good it is harnessed and upgraded.

Good one.

Ihe di m obi uto now bu na a serious governor is on the seat instead of the war hunger, INEC and media governor, trouble maker and a destroyer.

Ihedioha truly wasted his time fighting and trying to prove nothing. Everytime, Rochas embezzled 1trillion naira and he can't show us evidence only acting on speculation and perception. Had the impectus to said that he ban Rochas from entering Imo state. That man was indeed a comedian.

I wish Nigerians appreciated the importance of the environment in creating a total package of a conducive city.

State governments should consider hiring a small landscaping team of 2-5 women to go around all the newly completed roads and plant trees!
Trees will transform the environment to make it habitable. Without trees, you build an ugly concrete jungle called city.

See how trees made the environment in the last picture look superior and beautiful. Even though the houses on that street are actually much older than those in Owerri. In many cases, landscaping with trees is more important than the building itself.

I agree totally, the only policy Emeka ihedioha introduced that i love is the plan to plant one million trees, but sadly he didn't kick it off.
I hope the current administration patronise that idea.

If you are conversant with UNN, u'll know about the road from Opi to Enugu town constructed by Chime (I think). That road passed through an area no one expected, was well tarred and cut your journey to Enugu. It was a better alternative to passing the federal government road which was in a state of disarray.

Rochas is the only governor I know that have replicated such, although I wish he took the idea out of Owerri to other areas
If Rocha's did not construct it with substandard materials by now they won't be reconstruction on the road. That money would have been used to build another road

More,

Hope is the luckiest governor in Nigeria,if only he can incorporate and continue the legacies, and wonderful ideas of both rochas and ihedioha.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Mensamusa: 5:42pm On May 11, 2020
Since oil exploration activities is encroaching on the oil palm platations of ada palm in ohaji,a win win methodological approach is needed, so that a simultaneous symbiotic outcome can be achieved,

Efforts should be made for replanting of the fallen 6,000 oil palm yielding trees,

In the same vain, hopefully attention can be given the rubber estates plantation,IMO shoe industry, waste recycling plant in oguta, etc
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Mensamusa:
In the spirit of continuity,
Can the government, officially move the police and prisons officials from their former base to the new complexes erected for them by rochas, just like it was done with the judiciary,

It would be wonderful clearing the former sites and reconfiguring the city masterplan, sort of making way for CBD within the location, behind rock view hotel perfectly fits in a CBD for old owerri, while that proposed centenary tower site is another nice location for new owerri,

IMO state is expanding economically and development wise, she needs to advance her co-working structures,

Auditing firms, oil coys ,domestic airlines ,insurance firms, and techs can rent out this offices, while the government rakes in more taxes,
