huh
The federal and state government should wake up and tackle this menace and not wait until great damages and losses are encountered before doing something.
Federal Government are seeing all what is happening there as it involves erosion. Until the state government prioritize the problem and draw the attention of the Federal Government, nothing may happen. The states government in that region where erosion is causing a serious problems are too relaxed concerning the effects maybe because none of their personal properties or businesses has been affected by the disaster.

I think that is as a result of poor town planning, poor irrigation/ drainage systems, the environmental control bodies of the state should look into that...
It's none of the things you mentioned. If it's about town planning, why has erosion not overtaken most of the rural communities in all the geopolitical zones in Nigeria? How many rural communities have good town planning?

The main cause of erosion in the South East is simply the nature of the soil. Surface runoff can easily create a gulley overnight in the South East especially Anambra.

You just answered the question...town planning! It wasn't like this decades ago..but the substantial rise in 3 to 4 storey buildings in the east with little regards to planning, even the town planning bodies by the government no longer do their jobs effectively...some of those areas were originally planned to have certain number of houses and the stipulated heights of houses....the run-off from those high buildings is a constant danger to the soil...I've worked in various NEWMAP projects in the east and this is the number one cause of erosions...deforestation is another angle.

Sadly this started last year September, sank about 4 buildings, Although their governor visited when the first building went down, he did almost nothing since then

The largest erosion site in Anambra (infact Nigeria) is at Agulu and Nanka. These are not typical urban areas and they don't have many high-rise buildings. These erosions have also been there for decades. It's the ease of circulation of news on SM that makes it seem like it's getting worse.
Onitsha and Nkpor have the highest concentration of high rise buildings in Anambra, but I'm not sure if they have any erosion sites.

I doubt if there will be a political will to address this issue in the foreseeable future.
Re: School And Houses Destroyed By Erosion In Anambra State (Photos) by greenskittles: 1:09pm On May 13, 2020
If the owners of those buildings had hired geotechnical engineers to do a preliminary site investigation which would include slope stability analysis, they'd say it's too expensive. Now they risk losing everything. This is too bad.

You don't know what you are saying. Even UN and some foreign agencies are actively involved. Do you want the governors to keep talking about erosion every day on radio/TV? They are doing their best as far as erosion is concern. It is the dormant FG that has not done much.
