COVID-19: Peter Obi, Obaze, others donate N125m to Anambra PDP relief fund

A former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has donated N40m to the post-lockdown relief funds of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State to help the needy.

This was contained in a statement by the Chairman and Secretary of Anambra State PDP Palliative Committee, Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwe, and Mr Okoli Akirika, respectively.

The statement named others who contributed to the relief funds to include a governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2017 poll in the state, Mr Oseloka Obaze, Senators Uche Ekwunife, Stella Oduah, Alex Obiogbolu and Obiora Okonkwo.

The statement said the party had realised N125m from such donations from 36 donors.

Giving a breakdown of how the money would be utilised , Onyemelukwe said the party would build COVID-19 testing centres in the state within 21 days.

She implored the Federal and state governments to oblige the party some space in their facilities to enable it set up the testing centres.

She said, "With the announced relaxation of the lockdown, the PDP Family in Anambra State is aware of the challenges facing the less privileged ones amongst us.

"While we know that the Federal government and the Anambra State government will, and have been doing a lot to help the people restart their lives, we in PDP Anambra deem it imperative as a party and as a people to, once again, rise up and support our people, especially the most vulnerable ones, to get back on their feet.We are therefore committing the sum of N125m towards this purpose.

"In line with our strict position of ensuring accountability and transparency to the public on contributions and expenditures, we wish to give a breakdown of what the N125m entails.

"Anambra State, owing to its economic and commercial importance to our nation, deserves to have a COVID-19 testing laboratory in place.

" PDP Anambra state, is therefore committing to setting up a standard COVID-19 testing lab within 21 days of adequate space being provided by either the Anambra State Government or in the alternative, the Federal Government.

"We are therefore requesting the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Anambra State Government to provide us a space either at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi; the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka; or any of the hospitals in Anambra State, donated to the Federal Government by the Catholic Church; to set up a standard COVID-19 testing lab for this purpose.


She added, "We will be donating to each community in Anambra State the sum of N300,000 . This will enable the communities to give 60 least privileged persons/families in each community N5000 each, to help them start life again and contribute to their business revival in this post lockdown era".

Obaze be looking like Akeredolu of ondo state. I see he still has his eyes on Anambra government house. I wish him well, he has my vote in advance if I survive corona virus. He is a strong ally of Peter Obi and will sure replicate what his associate and friend did in Anambra

Obaze/Onyemelukwe for PDP 2021. Peter Obi has vowed he must be a godfather in Anambra state. Let's see how it goes.

Btw, it is Audio 125 million just like the audio 75 billion naira that only Peter Obi and witches know about. PDP is a dishonest party.

The funds should be only be use on what it was meant for.

Zoning is very strong now in Anambra state which was introduced by Peter Obi. Obaze and Obiano are both from Anambra North, so Anambrarians won't be stupid to vote for Obaze come 2021. After Obiano's tenure, Anambra South will succeed him.
