Even from Across Africa, the South-African special forces operationally deployed in Burundi are not carrying side arms.

The main thing is tactics and can your special forces rapidly deploy.

Nigerian special forces in the last picture with a side arm.

I don't know how anyone can spot side arms from the pics you posted.
Anyway, some pics from the same Burundi mission.

That's not the point I was making.

Can you confirm all South-African Special Forces soldiers carry side arms on operations.

Referring to publicly available pictures we have seen.

Thank you Mr. Toju.. My conclusion was made through the pictures I see here, my eyes always go to their right thighs, but I don't see anything there. and my experience with the Nigerian Army 72 special forces battalion, Makurdi, Benue state, whom were placed on our security detail.. they looked like regular soldiers coupled with the Ak47 they were brandishing.. but I noticed that wherever we go and they introduce themselves, the other soldiers' there just light up with respect.
Btw, Thank you for the clarification.

Nigerian special forces are issued with 9mm pistols, but it is not standard issue.

A side arm is only useful as a personal defence weapon or when soldiers are conducting close quarters combat operations.

Apart from these 2 scenarios there's really no need for them.
I never fired it against anyone throughout my stay in the theatre, I will take an extra rifle mag anytime anyday.

Libya civil war

LNA forces abandon Pantsir air defence system.

It seems the Pantsir is just all hype and no balls.

The Buk M2 have performed better, so has the Tor system.

@S400, why does this mean for Algeria.

From Syria to Libya, it has ended in tears for the Pantsir system.

Is Cameroun buying an air defence system? I didn't know that, can you post a link?

Anyway the Pantsir has proven to be an inefficient, ineffective overhyped air defence system.

It has proven to be a total failure in Syria and Libya.

According to them they are trying to be careful in order for ISWAP not to do something stupid E.g kill her

That means nothing .the weapon is not the problem its how you use it ,

In syria the pantsir that was destroyed was in rest position, radar off after he had fired all his missiles and destroyed his targets , the crew remained on the spot while waiting for the support vehicle ( big error for a mobile air defense system in operation area) , thats why it was destroyed .

For libyan haftar clown militia , what can i say , poeple shared the videos of the pantsir delivry convoy live on social media's .. the turkish drone followed the delivry of the pantsir system from delivry until the base and detroyed it . without been even detected and pantsir was also not activated ، thats just too stupid .

Pantsir is a very good air defense system specially when used with other middle , long range air defense systems and radars . dont think it will change its use in algerian , syrian or russian armies

I agree that the Libyan crew and fighters have been very incompetent.

However, your claim that the Pantsir is a very good air defence system is not accurate. The Pantsir has proven to be very ineffective, even when manned by Russian crews.

The problem is that the much hyped Pantsir has been a flop. No proof of any Pantsir kills has ever been presented and Israeli airstrikes consistently destroy their targets, even when Pantsir is present and firing lots of those Tunguska missiles.

In the drone attack on Russian air base in 2018, The older Tor-M2U system used its missiles successfully to shoot down the UAVs while the more recent Pantsir-S1 missiles all missed.

The main problem with Pantsir-S1 is that in combat it doesn’t work. Failures have been reported at least three times since 2007, and all occurred in Syria. Two months after Syria received Pantsir-S1s in 2007, Israel bombed a Syrian nuclear weapons development facility. The Syrians were very dismayed at how ineffective the new Pantsir-S1 systems were during the Israeli strike. The 2007 failure was attributed to Israelis figuring out how to blind these systems electronically. In 2017 Pantsir S1 again failed during an Israeli attack and the excuse this time was that the Pantsir-S1s were not turned on. The 2018 failure was with operational Pantsir systems firing missiles at UAVs and missing while Tor-M2U systems detected UAVs and regularly shot them down with missiles.

The Pantsir as we have seen has been very terrible in combat. Russia needs to do away with that system or radically upgrade it so it becomes effective in combat.

The Pantsir is giving the Russian defence industry a very bad image.

There was talks of this but We haven't seen any renderings or otherwise yet.
They'll need considerable government support. Tanks are considerably expensive at millions of pounds/dollars per unit (excluding research costs).

Nigeria also needs considerable advanced industries that can support during the build stage. It's not impossible though.

I have to strongly disagree on this. The Pantsir has proven to be an extremely poor piece of hardware. All the excuses you gave for the system have been debunked by the Syrian Air Defence. In videos released during the Idlib offensive by Turkey, we clearly saw multiple footage of active Pantsir systems even with their radars spinning. Footage of Israeli Daliah missiles also showed the same.

Even with electronic jamming by Turkey's Koral systems, I find it hard to see how an active Pantsir with live radar couldn't detect or engage slow and low flying Turkish Bayraktar drones.

Algeria simply got done in by Russia for an inferior air defence system. It unfortunate, but it happens to even the best.
