Metering will solve all these wahala.

No, Nigerians will bypass the meters.

Yesterday, NTA followed one Abuja DISCO crew on 'monitoring'. They found buildings where meters were being bypassed, in some instances without even touching the meter. And those were located in relatively 'rich' areas of Abuja...where people could pay without issues.

The problem with Nigerians is that they want electricity for free, without thinking about how to pay for it.

That's the main reason why we don't have light.

Sorry about that.

That's the problem with Nigerians. We too dey like awoof.

I don't blame the EEDC officals for doing what they did. Enough was enough. And since they are a private company, they no send.

The funny thing with Nigerians...people expect to power 24/7 without paying for it.

1.Since 2014, power has been in private hands.

2.It is because many Nigerians refuse to pay for power, plus the laws governing privatisation of power put the control of prices in the hands of government rather than the DISCOS and the GENCOS....that DISCOS are chornically short of cash needed to make improvements, and even struggle to pay for power supply from GENCOS. GENCOS meanwhile are struggling to pay gas companies cash for power.(especially as gas companies demand for payment in dollars, not naira)

3.If you ran a business, would you allow your customers take your goods on credit as per coronavirus things? Be honest.

Over here we do have light up to 20hrs light per day... Anytime I see light wasting in my area I always feel as if all areas in Nigeria should equal light like ours

For all its faults, the present set up has many conflict resolution terminals which they should explore and exhaust before physical self help. It doesn't make sense and is very short sighted. A community that cannot come to equity with service providers will have it hard going, be it power distribution or GSM infrastructure. How do you get folks to invest in your community if you cannot guarantee security.

There should be a law banning the disconnection of light on basis of unpaid light bills. Discos should install prepaid meters in every house if they re serious about getting their power dues. But because they know it will block loop holes for them to overbill users and embezzle from Nigerians, they won't do it

Its been 2months and 4days now that I use NEPA light in my house ... Thz year have not use 10hours cumulative NEPA light in my house, And the funny part of this situation is we not even owning NEPA bill before they stop brining bill due to federal instructions. It terrible that I use 3,000 fuel weekly in my house, and fuel Gen close to 5k in the office weekly, virtually provide everythings power, water, security, job. What then is the govt met for.

That's a good idea, and there should also be a law that prevents you from collecting your money from me should I owe you 2million naira....

The harsh truth is that even with meters, many Nigerians won't pay. They will bypass the meter well well.(in my previous place of residence, a former neighbour of mine bypassed his meter, and then moved out, leaving the landlord with the penalty bill...which had to be paid before a new tenant could move in.).

Meter that they can not give bah. How do you expect people to pay when the power supply is horrible. If the service was good it will be another story entirely.

The sad thing about this thread is that people are hailing the woman.

Look, before you insult me, answer this question....if you were running a business , where would you get the money to buy goods to sell? From the government or from your customers.

Power has been privatised since 2014. And I recall that the government of the day then gave people a lot of opportunites to register their opposition to the privatisation move, and Nigerians sat down at home and kept quiet. The same Nigerians who are now grumbling.

Don't pay the DISCOS. At the end of the day, power supply will never improve. Because no payment for power, no money to make improvements.

They were supposed to come in with their investment capital to fix the issues which is obviously ravaging the power sector. Then we can pay for their services. Not the rubbish we see everyday. NO matter how much you pay there will be no improvement because these guys don't have chi-chi. The first increment they did was for improvement so where is the improvement? Power is a long term capital intensive investment which non of the current discos can shoulder.
