If You've Done This Job Before, Pls Tell Me Your Experience Too

This my thread is just mainly for single men and guys outside there and I would like to share my experience with you guys on what I have undergone and experienced as a Security guard.

To be a security guard is not a job I can advise my enemy to opt for let alone my friend or relation. The job is a regardless one and very disgusting.

As a security guard, you are more or less a beggar in the street, should I say beggar has a little regard more than you.

When people see you, they see nothing in you. Most especially when you're trying to speak to them in English making them to know that you're educated...(laugh..) You just did it wrong, to them it means you are having mental problem.

The image impression of 98% of people on guys who do this job to hustle for their lives rather than involving in criminal practices is that they have no future; is that they cannot make it in their lives; e.t.c.

Since I've started this job when I finished my program in the polytechnic, any lady I made to know about the job I do turns me off later, some said it's a beggars' work.

And currently, I hardly have female friends not to talk of girlfriends or marriage.

Though, I didn't mean to start this job before if not condition, but now I'm planning to quit the job and find another.

Sometimes, I cried in my room, begging God to show me another way.

One of the workers in the place of work that I'm guiding once told me that his dog is better off than me. This is even the person that cannot even compose simple correct English, he said his dog is better than me.

Your experience too is allowed... Thank you.
its well brother just hustle hard and leave this country

There’s no job that doesn’t sometimes have its downside!

You be encouraged that there is dignity in labour and keep putting your best foot forward.

Look out extensively for other opportunities and be encouraged that things could be worse . One day you’d get that which you seek.

P.S- As a human Resource Manager , the MD once called me stupid and slow so there you have it , shit does happen

Lol. You know how many times my boss done ask me how I take graduate with my class of degree?

I will just be laughing. I don’t know why I find it very funny. Maybe it is the way he says it. Lmao!

After my NYSC I came back home and was operating a POS machine at EKSU, just outside the campus gate, the way some of those students especially the females interact with one is very condescending despite the fact that I might be having more than them.

They probably thought I was uneducated.

But some of them are genuinely nice.

I made good and bad friends.

They have a laptop, google is free, they can research. It's not about being spoonfed, the person must be ready too. You don't have to go back to school, most successful programmers today are self taught. Python language is one language with immense opportunities.

There was a thread here on NL some time ago where many people dropped snippets of useful info from page 4 on. Opportunities are everywhere for the determined person.

Don’t let that get into you brother, with focus and optimism, you will get a better job. Just believe in yourself and be smart. Learn to identify an opportunity when others are complaining.

I think OP has not given us enough insight into the life and times of security guards.

We find security guards in banks and eatries who are very proud of their jobs and always happy.

Aside from being called illiterates and beggars what other experiences did you have? Compared to others did they have.similar, worse or better experiences? Which organisation(s) did you work with? What else did you feel negatively? Were there no happy moments? This will help those who are either experiencing it presently or may experience it know what it feels like and better handle the situations they find themselves in.

Anything short of that I take it that OP just did a write up based on hearsay of one person and not his personal experience.

When I was in NFLV in 2017, I decided to get an extra source of income, I told two of my friends about it, they asked what I intended doing and I told them I'd start selling cloths, they laughed real hard at me, they really laughed at me o, they asked who would buy and how I would go about it but I didn't let the things they said dissuade me, well, I and some of my friend decided to go get things in république du Benin, I was shocked at how cheap things were and ended up buying some cloths, when I came back I sold them and made triple the amount I had spent getting the cloths, that's how I started oooo, I did that till I graduated. Well, one of them started to sell cloths as well. Don't listen to what people say otherwise you'll go no where in life, set your priorities right, do some personal development, save, invest, save. Don't quit your job till you've secured a better one. Know your worth, value yourself and carry yourself with much dignity. A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.

From what I've read, you are ashamed of doing what puts food on your table. Many are looking for your type of job to no avail. Remember to keep that I'm a polytechnic graduate nonsense by the corner. What makes you think that you are better or wiser than those who didn't go to school? I'm presently running a PhD programme and that doesn't stop me from hustling in any form, shape or scope. Hustle hard o, forget about girls now and hustle, keep building your resume with interesting skills while at this job, start dropping your upgraded resume like a mad man to any company you see, who knows when your luck would shine?
Some graduates in their skill section would put Microsoft word, excel grin, typing skills, I would just laugh. What happened to I can analyse data using python data science module such as Pandas and then visualization through matplotlib and Bokeh. This wouldn't even take you up to 2-4weeks to master. Upgrade yourself daily, read, read and read.
Can you save some cash and aquire basic shoe making and Pam slippers production machines? Or even attach yourself with a mechanic to learn motor repair or generator repair (Mikano)?
Gracias!

Thank you, well said!

My advise for the OP is keep up the work don’t let them get into you with their trash talks or bullying... there’s always a light at the end of every tunnel, hard work pays like really hard work, y’all know about the security man whom was rewarded for honesty, at I think gtb or so, now what I’m saying in essence is, dedicated and work like you never have to work again, don’t look at the fact that your at the last of the salary chain at your place of work, put in all your best and trust me you’ll laugh last! Either Cleaner or security or other menial, believe me so far you ain’t begging you rule! And more so the girls or women you said are living you are doing so not because of the title of your job but the content of your salary considering your work place, now I have a friend whom is father work as a Security guard with Dangote, Manning one of Dangote firms! Now he earns up to 350k monthly, now if he’s to tell people what he does for a living, he is going to Say I work as a security guard with Dangote, why because of the prestige and wealth attached to that name, security guard or not, someone’s gotta do it, not everyone’s gonna be super fly as they want, that’s just how life is; embrace what you have and hope for a better future. God bless your man

You people should stop posting Rubbish here. I was a Security guy for 5 good years at Mr Biggs. I was so good that i was hired by Mr biggs themselve to work with. Today i am a graduate and An Architect.

Stop posting nonsense!

Whereever you find yourself. Master the Art and own your environment.

People are always watching. Some people are in canada/USA courtesy of people/customers they helped carry their luggages into the hotel while they were working as Security Officers.

Try to be different in whatever Job and position you find yourself. Iron your uniforms! Give it to tailors so they can make it look fit/good on you and at the same time make you look Smarter than your colleagues.

Finally always try to put on a Perfume whenever you are working. No matter how cheap it is.

People are Recording and Watching you.

Modified: Let me also mention that when MR biggs closed that branch were i worked. I went to work in a Hotel. What they could only offer me was a Room Attendant. I took the job but just after 11 months did you know the position i attained

Yes not even A Manager! I was made the PA to the General Manager who is an American. I was the one who refuesd the job of a manager because i was targeting to travel with her to the US as her PA. Which didnt work out exactly as i planned it.

Any place you find yourself. First thank God and try to be different in a good way.

You can get respect doing ANY job in the world.
First you have to respect yourself.
Make sure your dressing is always neat and sharp and you eat a lot of vegetables OR drink a lot of water to keep your skin fresh.
Like the person above said; use good perfumes.
If you can perfume oil that lasts 24+ hours on the skin it’ll be even better.
MOST IMPORTANTLY Find time to work out a lot too so you can gain an intimidating bulk.
People will recognize you more and know that you are better than where you are right now. Some might approach you with better opportunities.
Nobody likes seeing a big man in small trousers.

Resist the urge to overly relate with people around that can’t think above this current level. Don’t engage them in rubbish talks because they will slowly influence you to remain at this level.
Always have a vision of what you want your life to be. Don’t allow anything distract that mental picture.
Always maintain an elite mindset and brush off whatever people have to say... infact laugh when they say it and internalize the pain to think of better opportunities you can take advantage of.

Forget women for now bro. Like who like you, anybody wey look down on you cos you be gateman, disregard them. Most women especially the educated ones won’t want anything to do with you....because we have a 3rd world View of security guards. (Which is why the first point is most important).

If you have a lot of time off work you can find a martial arts class to enroll in, or hey there is YouTube you can practice on your own.... it will help you sharpen your focus and always maintain a razor sharp mind...it’ll also help elevate your mind from your small immediate environment.

Thank me later.
