I once worked as I security guard in one of those oil companies in port harcourt. The salary was manageable (70k) 15 days on 15 days off. till I stopped that work nobody ever looked down on me because I never gave them the opportunity. My dressing, character, communication and attitude towards the job and people around me is always top notch.

You can not be begging people for money and expect them to respect you. The way to dress and your level of confidence matters a lot.

Absolutely! your etiquete and class matters alot in a security job, if you go about carrying hand bags, holding umbrellas or opening door, running unnercerssary errand for your employers then you have just turned yourself to a pleb.

The OP is right.....

I did a security job ones and you are not just seen as a beggar.... But people will believe that you graduated with a pass or third class to have ended with this kind of job...

If you speak good English, they will say you do ITK and that's why you can't make the most out of yourself...

The job in it's self is very risky.... You are the first suspect and and you dare not trust your best colleagues.... You can buy a car for someone from your paltry salary if at stolen car is recorded on your shift....

Having a woman during this period was difficult... even the fruit sellers and hawkers will not accept you... let alone marketers....

But Sha... OP, you have to man up and keep the hustle real....
Why did you say let alone marketers?

This my thread is just mainly for single men and guys outside there and I would like to share my experience with you guys on what I have undergone and experienced as a Security guard.

To be a security guard is not a job I can advise my enemy to opt for let alone my friend or relation. The job is a regardless one and very disgusting.

As a security guard, you are more or less a beggar in the street, should I say beggar has a little regard more than you.

When people see you, they see nothing in you. Most especially when you're trying to speak to them in English making them to know that you're educated...(laugh..) You just did it wrong, to them it means you are having mental problem.

The image impression of 98% of people on guys who do this job to hustle for their lives rather than involving in criminal practices is that they have no future; is that they cannot make it in their lives; e.t.c.

Since I've started this job when I finished my program in the polytechnic, any lady I made to know about the job I do turns me off later, some said it's a beggars' work.

And currently, I hardly have female friends not to talk of girlfriends or marriage.

Though, I didn't mean to start this job before if not condition, but now I'm planning to quit the job and find another.

Sometimes, I cried in my room, begging God to show me another way.

One of the workers in the place of work that I'm guiding once told me that his dog is better off than me. This is even the person that cannot even compose simple correct English, he said his dog is better than me.

Your experience too is allowed... Thank you.
You should be unperturbed when people speak ill of your job, you don't want to do it for the rest of your life right?
be focused and strive harder....
i once worked with santana security agency as a supol and Chakel security as a guard, one man told me he's greater than my generation, to be frank i flared up but later i calmed down his insult and many others boosted my morale to strive harder to get where i am today.

But but but one of my friend is a security and earns 85,000 monthly, how bout that?

We are in the same boat, the Excel I referred to is just the simple basic stuff like sum, average etc, advanced excel would take way longer to master. On your resume, if you put Excel, the employer may think that you are referring to simple stuff, Python data science knowledge stands you out of the crowd. I have an 8hr Microsoft Excel tutorial and I can tell you that it's very similar to python for Data science in numerous ways.

My aunty that I was staying with told me that the husband said I should leave their house after my youth service. I thank God for not allowing went back to the east. One of my friend drives container truck, so I became his conductor and I did the work for 8months and got my first job. Currently working with a multinational company and am doing so great. I get your point profambem. Python is the easiest programming language but not a walk in the park. Basic python yes but when you go documentation of the various tools and libraries(numpy, sklearn, pandas, then move to machine learning).you would agree that It takes constant practice and continuous development to be proficient and able to solve use cases.
ProfAmaben:

What and what do you need to learn in pandas that you can analyse data in 2-4 weeks?

Import pandas as pd
Import matplotlib as plt
Import bokeh as bk

df = pd.read_csv("education.csv" )
df

Then you advance further by learning python data structures and loops if need be.
Know your list slicing etc, people don't just wanna stress themselves, I challenge anyone to give it 2-4 weeks and not come out above average

Am someone currently working as a security man and I must confess it's not easy each day.The stigmatisation alone can make you loose your sanity.

But what do you do, Quit? definitely no expecially when you don't have any other mean of livelihood and got mouths to feed too.

Lost my dad when I was 9,struggled to finish secondary school but none to push me thru higher institution, I had to do so many menial jobs to survive.

At a point I decided to join the army cos I had a pastor who was a soldier and loved his Charisma. He advised me to do a professional course at UNiILAG in affiliation with Nigeria Institute of Security ( security operations and management) which according to him would give me an edge over other cadets..After 2 years I was certified....

2012 I bought the Army form and when it was time for my family to endorse they decline expecially my old and sick mom.As her only son she would rather not have me join the army.Remeber 2012 and boko Haram that year.

Instead of staying home doing nothing I decided to job hunt with the certificate. So I first join HALOGEN.After their training I was deployed to a location I was paid peanuts. After working with them for 3years quit and got another offer 2017(still a security Job) that am still managing till now...

It's not not easy as man's not getting younger and man's got 2 mouths to feed now...

So when people Stigmatise, ridicule and lampoon cos am a security man I just ignore them cos they don't know my story...

Do what you do.So long it's legal and aspire to get to where you wanna be.
Bro go join army, navy, airforce or civil defence...

security job sabi tie people down for years

all my fellow security guys way i leave resign still dey do security till now, the job no get future.

You can. be a security .man and still command respect. It depends on how you carry yourself. I worked as a security man when I was just 21, my own challenge was my small stature but I carried myself with confidence, I had a good relationship with my coworkers and I was getting extra money aside my salary, I was looking fresh. There was a day a customer saw me and said " u fine like this and u dey do security". I left the job when I gained admission
So Bros, slim fit ur uniform freshen up.Be confident , see your self as a millitary man when you are in uniform. approach any lady u like if they talk trash blast them.
I'm a graduate and if I see a security job that pays well I will do. It is even better than these teaching jobs that pay peanut

Nigerians don't respect security Jobs. Go to USA or London. Security Guards are paid higher. I'm a graduate and I've done security jobs. It has been sustaining me since I graduated.
