The first phone I handled was in 2003. It belonged to my dad. A Nokia 3310 bundled with an Econet wireless SIM card. The sim alone cost nearly 30k! Within a few weeks after the novelty had worn off, I finally had the phone to myself and in a few weeks was able to operate it as well as the owner could and I did mess with some settings that got me some good knocks. I was in JS1. Very few people had phones then and who still remembers call centers, those little plastic chair and umbrella set ups where they charged N50 for a minute? They persisted till 2012 in some places.

Fast forward to 2017, I had used and spoilt or lost several phones, none of which I bought for myself. The Nokia 3310 itself was my first, then I had a Sagem flip, a Motorola candy bar RAZR, a Sagem slide, Nokia E63, HTC, various Tecno phones from those ones with pen touch to the P5, even using a Hot 2 along the way and finally a Nokia E5. I later dumped the E5 for an Innjoo F3 later that same year before going for service in 2017.

To me, I believed I knew a lot about phones because I had used so many. I believed (because adverts told me so) that Tecno phones were the best. In fact, myself and another corp member, Teju would argue against Maleekh and Ola on which was better between Tecno and Infinix. Looking back and seeing how it was makes me feel like pitying myself. When state allawie finally came, those two went to buy Hot 6, Teju bought W4 while I got the L9+, even convincing my roommate to do the same. The PPA was essentially divided into Tecno Vs Infinix.

Getting that L9+, I felt in my heart that no phone was better than my own or could do what it couldn't do. Then I was addicted to Dream League and N.O.V.A. legacy, playing online everyday until hackers ruined both games. When I heard brands like Le Eco and Redmi, I always felt they were useless Chinese junk that one couldn't find the parts for (the jokes on me right) and that the Samsung/HTC/Blackberry were overpriced and that my phone could match them.

The next year, even after I was robbed in a keke, I happily went to Effurun Shopping Mall to get Pouvoir 2. I convinced my girlfriend as well to get the Spark 2 even topping the cash for her to encourage her. My younger brother got the spark 2 as well and I got a fairly used P5 for another sibling. To me, Tecno was the best brand.

That was till PUBG was released. My old gaming buddy from N.O.V.A. asked me download PUBG. I said it was nonsense but he convinced me and I did download it and it worked but, I couldn't see my avatar. Only the clothes it wore. I complained to the guy and he asked me what processor I was using. Processor, I asked myself. He said only Snapdragon processors were good for gaming. What is Snapdragon I asked myself again. He understood my confusion and asked me to name my phone. I told him it was a good midranger and gave him the name. He came back and said "bro, you a smart fella, Why'd you buy a potato?". That night, I got a night sub and started to read and make notes, and read and make notes. The scales fell.

Even tho, my friend later helped me with a GFX that fixed the avatar rendering glitch on my Pouvoir 2, my experience with the phone was terrible. I cleared cache everyday, I had to restart the phone after any strenuous activity, it lagged, freezed and reboot constantly. I would enter a game, and hear other players walking and running but my game would be stuck at the loading screen. The more I read, the more disappointed I got. I read one new thing every week or at least I tried to.

On one search, the Google hit brought me to the Xiaomi thread. I followed the thread for a really long time seeing people like Genius.43, Aunty Fibo, GP.tech and grand.mufti with their knowledge and I have a lot of respect for them. They added to my knowledge. The more they spoke, the more I realized that I know nothing at all.

By 2019, I had a choice between the Samsung M series and the Redmi Note 7. I knew what I wanted. When Xiaomi came to Nigeria, I opted for the RN7. Going to purchase my phone at the Effurun mall, I could tolerate the Samsung marketer but the Infinix marketer was the one I felt like strangling. He told me that my phone go spoil and I no go see parts. I ignored and got my Redmi Note 7 on the 9th of May 2019. There's no one that has handled this phone that hasn't fallen in love with it.

This phone opened new vistas of learning, from casting to virtual and augmented reality, DSLR like camera performance from a phone, I can't even remember the last time I cleared my cache. Phone that came with Tencent and Avast antivirus.

That was when I made the decision to try and educate as many people as possible. So they wouldn't be ignorant and clueless like me in the hands of silly marketers. I am not a marketer, and I dare anyone to prove such accusation. I have been ignorant and blind and so I understand when I discuss with such persons. DrJPrince can testify I'm sure.

Seeing people who are supposed to educate the public like our resident bloggers here, misinform them is disgusting. Maybe one day I'll open a blog but I'm not in for money or fame because I'll tear down rubbish devices on air (Zach's JerryRigit) rather than lie to the people.

I admit that there is so much I do not know but I will keep learning and from the little I know will keep pushing others to learn. This post should inspire you. The people that know these things didn't come with such preprogrammed knowledge. They acquired them and so can you.

Lmao, that part about not seeing your avatar, only clothesgrin. Going through your post, I could say the same thing about myself. I also used the 3310, used sagem, flip phones, I used the Nokia express music in secondary school. The years when having 10mb was like 10gb and one could go on wapdam, sefan and download Gameloft games and select screen sizes. 128 × 128, 128 × 160, 240 × 320 and so on.

The first android I used was Tecno p5, which gave up the ghost playing GTA San Andreas. I got myself another one, m6, and my game would crash after playing for some minutes. I went online and found out it was due to RAM. I bought another Tecno device with 1gb RAM and believed in happy ever after. Mc5 came out and my phone literally died and refused to turn on playing it. Gave it to an engineer and he told me the panel is fried, it was hard to believe. Then I switched to Infinix, hot 2 was my first infinix device. It also gave up the ghost playing a ppssp game, socom or something.

I shudder when I go through my posts here in the past, defending Infinix and blasting Tecno users not realizing we were birds of a feather. Anyway, PUBG was the Messiah that opened my eyes about the mediocrity of transsion phones. I decided enough was enough, I had to educate myself about these chipsets. You know when I buy phones before, I only look out for the number of cores and RAM size, like dual core, quad core or so, and processor speed. I was even the go to guy back then in my hostel, for recommending phones. I was recommending shiit, and I'd apologize to anyone I've told to buy infinix devices till today.

The last Infinix device I used was hot 6x, I was excited when I saw snapdragon. Sadly it was sporting snapdragon 425, I nearly had heart attack when I ran pugb on it and it was stuck at the lowest settings and even lagged on the lowest settings. I had that same experience of my screen still loading and hearing other players moving around already.

Now, I've also brought it upon myself to lead a personal campaign against transsion. For all the years I've suffered, had to restart my phone after every game play.

For real, learning is a journey that never ends.

Everytime you learn something new, your brains creates new cells to store this information, a process called neurogenesis (Neurophysiology PHS301 if I remember correctly). This helps it function better.

Learning is living.

If a person stops learning, their brain loses cells and that's the beginning of the end of them for them.

Live curious bro.

What do we know, a one eyed man is a king in the land of the blind, i was also the go to guy, infact they call me the mobile genius. I always felt like a legend when those innocent tech illiterates come to me for help, as far as am concerned back then 2g ram, 16-32g rom octacore proccesor, then that phone is a badass grin (Just imagind if those guys are now enlightened like myself, how are they gonna look at me? *winks in shame*

am glad the scale felled off from my eyes, tecno and infinix take my eyes see something. And as long as i have data and i keep logging in to nairaland i will always try to enlighten nairalanders, thank God for our comrades like Sunshinev, Mrbone2, Drjprince, Zesushvwritter, Trollkiller, Criptofx10, the guy with the bitcoin wallet moniker and of course Atheistandproud and other guys we are many. am glad we woke up and now its left for us to wake up our innocent brothers and sisters who are unsuspecting of Tecno

Same as you, I always considered myself a geek... I mean I could use t9 prediction to type a thousand characters in a minute , my first phone was an lg flip phone.. I would bar my parents phones and the phones automatically started working when they got new ones .. in my 100level, I wanted to buy a phone and wanted to shell out 70k for a two month old S3 .. I was still using my e95.. I loved everything about my friend's n3 .. I loved the fact that it could handle Pes 2011.. I was a fan of arguing with Samsung users.. I got the p3 , then p9 and then got the h6.. The p3 was a solid phone but had issues with battery and storage.. I was an advocate for the Tecno brand.. One day I was in school arguing with a Samsung user about how Tecno was value for money.. when we were done, someone called me and collected my number. I then became a Tecno campus ambassador.. 50k and 30percent discount for any new product. The FIFA 15 was out and my Tecno h6 couldn't handle it anymore. The Tecno h6 was my best Tecno phone.. I kept on changing ROMs .. That's when I started learning about focus in pictures and algorithms influenced image processing rather than the number of mega pixels.. I then went to buy the c8 at 30percent discount of course and it gave me headache.. Tecno insisted on the 1gb ram in all Their devices then .. They went on to release the marshmallow update which worsened everything.. I had one more month on my contract and sold my c8 Una month and bought the then boom j8.. The initial hios was beautiful and they had started getting it right .. the speakers were beautiful!!! Then the camera started to depreciate.. I still took decent pictures because I had to learn lighting and angles.. It was stolen and I had to get the CX.. it was a whopping 75k .. mosjames, janetheze, mizmycolii were amongst the deceitful marketers then .. I didn't know about the marketing thing then .. I saw Xiaomi then.. it sounded so foreign and they kept on hitting on availability of parts .. I caved in and bought the CX which had so much issues from poor multitasking to a bad charging port!! My cousin's boyfriend got her the redmi note 4 and it's still so good till date despite being cheaper then .. I used the phone and came on nairaland phone section and clicked on the Xiaomi group .. I was liberated !! I checked everything about softwares and how much they affected the phone, processors.. I was on AliExpress and saw a flash deal on the Nokia X6 then at 47k !!! It's been two beautiful years of pure bliss.. The gcam gets better with every update .. I bought this phone instead of the camon X and it still beats the camon 15 in everything and people still recommend it till tomorrow.. started from Android 8 and now we're on 10!!!! I've not changed my phone in 2 good years !!! Thanks to gptech, greenhulk and to the new set of people enlightening people.. Atheistandproud, ddjay, drjprince,, zehus, skywalker240 edopesin.. Please sorry for the typos

cheesy

The only Tecno phone I ever used was tecno Q1. I was a total novice then and I only bought it because it was first android with Keyboard which was their gimmicks and selling point then. They try to copy BB bold 5 and me not being a fan of Blackberry, I settled for the Q1.

I didn't miss the phone when it was picked from my pocket at Mile 2. I switched to Gionee M3, M5 and M6 thanks to Nairaland and Elijah. dre

Gentlemen and ladies, TECNO, INFINIX, ITEL are scrapped. All they are selling to you is Battery, big screen and box.
and I'm currently a proud owner of Redmi note 8 pro grin

I was in computer Village last week, a guy was talking about buying Camon 15. I didn't know him from anywhere but i just told can't allow him threw away his hard earn money in this Covid era. I just told him, Bros don't waste your money.

Go for Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi or Samsung. I opened my browser and educate him about Chipset, processors, software Support and International recognition. The veil fell off from his eyes. Me and my household and anybody who cares to listen will never use Tecno and Co until they repent and start to offer value for money.

But until then, TECNO is not CHEAP. TECNO is a scrap

When tecno came onboard, they had everything working for them, but lost it when they cant find the ying and yang between affordable and cheap, when techno came to Nigeria, I was using Samsung Galaxy s one(at&t variant), the one with Android(2.3 Ginger bread with 512 ram and 16gb rom), my friends were using tecno devices, there is a difference when I use theirs, and anytime I use mine, the difference is clear. in my quest for enlightenment on Android os, I bought a China phone named "doov v3" it was ship with yunos os(fork version of Android), this phone was fluid, fast never lag and has a good Display, cons of the phone are no GApps, community support, bloatware. The only tecno phone I ever own was tecno wx3lite, which only lasted a week with me before giving up.gringringrin

nna eh .. I tweaked MTN from morning till evening with chamelephone app plus IMEI tweaker.. 120gb was massive that year .. apps weren't as data demanding as they are now

my eyes opened last year thanks to nairaland I thought I knew it all back then while I was using infinix and tecno I keep changing my phones each time they release new ones.
Then nairaland opened my eyes I decided to try Samsung, men! The difference was clear though the phone was stolen and I switched to oppo. now I hate anything transsion company and am still going back to Samsung next month
