This too shall pass. While trying to find another job, I would suggest trying to go study abroad preferably in the US since they accept HND for graduate studies. The good side is that most graduate programs have some funding and you can apply to a school that fits your profile.

On the converse, if you are still young, you can explore the Express Entry, the Canadian migration scheme.

Bros you funny o. Security job wey Dem dey pay 25k a month.

Do you know how many centuries it will take him to save 3.5M for express entry ?

I was also a security guard for three months about 17 years ago. Whatever you are doing, do it diligently and God would reward you because diligence in work is a prayer.

No condition is permanent Bro.

I was once a clerk years back on the Island, Lagos in the 1990s - I had two or three shirts then and would wash them as soon as I got home.

Back then I always worked my ass out and soon became the darling of everybody I worked with, men, women, old and young. With God it helped me a lot during my hustled through university.

By God's grace I am gainfully employed, married and have a place of my own.

My advice to you is love whatever you are doing now, love your work even if its a security guard, work hard, be humble and friendly to everybody even those who talk-down on you in the line of duty (you will meet them in the future and surely show off your success). You miracle may be where you are working right now.

Will you believe if I told you that, I have never been out of work because of that clerical work, it over 25 years now. That job opened doors for me up till now.

Take it easy...…………… you are polytechnic graduate, aim high with it.

Maybe you missed this, “it is okay if they don’t want him, but no need to embarrass him”. I am an unrepentant gold-digger, my man knows. I wouldn’t date OP, but I sure wouldn't call him a beggar because he works as a security man. That is not me being “our” own enemy, it is just common sense and basic courtesy.

Anything else?

I laugh since you say I funny. Where there is a will there will be a way. It is an option and he can seek help to raise the funds and pay it back in the future when he is settled if he thinks that is an approach. Like I said, the options are many and that is just one of them.

Lolz, @Op, if you can see this
I have worked as a security guard before
Truth be told, it wasn't that a nice job but it was something.
Our experience might be a bit different tho
I hate being idle, so after my secondary school, while waiting to do my third jamb
I worked with scorpion security agency as a security guard in eleganza industrial estate, ibeju lekki. I live very close to the place(#100 to nd fro cost)
To me, it was just a passing phase, so I wasn't bothered(moreover, all of us dey struggle ni)

Immediately I started working there, okoya and his family noticed my presence. I stopped him at the gate the first day of resumption, stopped shade, Tunde and hadiza...all of them
You shouldn't be bothered about what people are saying. Be grateful for what you have and utilize it as a stepping stone to a better life.
No let girl matter too full your head....There is a long road ahead

From what I've read, you are ashamed of doing what puts food on your table. Many are looking for your type of job to no avail. Remember to keep that I'm a polytechnic graduate nonsense by the corner. What makes you think that you are better or wiser than those who didn't go to school? I'm presently running a PhD programme and that doesn't stop me from hustling in any form, shape or scope. Hustle hard o, forget about girls now and hustle, keep building your resume with interesting skills while at this job, start dropping your upgraded resume like a mad man to any company you see, who knows when your luck would shine?
Some graduates in their skill section would put Microsoft word, excel grin, typing skills, I would just laugh. What happened to I can analyse data using python data science module such as Pandas and then visualization through matplotlib and Bokeh. This wouldn't even take you up to 2-4weeks to master. Upgrade yourself daily, read, read and read.
Can you save some cash and aquire basic shoe making and Pam slippers production machines? Or even attach yourself with a mechanic to learn motor repair or generator repair (Mikano)?

That reminds me of my time at Halogen Security guarding British American Tobacco facility. Wetin Musa no see for gate but I was never deterred since I knew I would be called up for service. Leave okpekes (girls) huzzle your life and they will flock after you. I can't forget one fine girl that was forming and cannot even fill visitors book after calling me mumu. I took my pound of flesh by making her call her guest another saucy idiot to fill the book.

There is a woman for every man. Last time I checked, over half of the Nigerian population are living in poverty. This means the poor are marrying and fcking. If he wants to hustle first, his choice, if he wants a woman, there is one for him. It is just not me, obviously not you...the rest is his business.

In 2005 after my youth service,I tried everything to secure a job, but I didn't get one.
For those of you that know Lagos, falomo round about under bridge was our regular spot.i use to pay twenty naira to news paper vendor to read Tuesday and Thursday guardian news paper to copy addresses and email addresses for job advert. It was tough. By noon everyday,I will enter church of the assumption falomo to attend mass.
After mass, I will then trek to obalende dodan barracks where I squated with a soldier in a kitchen size room.

After six months,I still did not get a job. One afternoon I entered the church for mass,I picked up a bulletin on the floor and noticed a job advert on it,it was for a security job.i went for it,after all screening I was given a slot for 12k per month.

This was the beginning of my life , strife and breakthrough.i suffered, slept on the bench, mosquito bite and all sorts of insults.it is long story, but I never gave up.I moved closer to God and prayed for breakthrough, which came after three years of doing the security job.Ladies were not in the equation for me at that time.

Cut story short, God uplifted me, cleaned me up and made me whole.

I earn more than half a million naira net every month now as a sales manager in a multinational company.

So guy, don't give up.there is light at the end of the tunnel.stay focused, your story will change sooner than expected

I totally disagree with you, their is dignity in labour. Security guards are not beggars unless they are begging people for money.

Every jobs has its downsides, intact their is no future in any jobs, the future lies in the hands of the person that holds the job.

Your issues is your mindset, you need to change your mindset about the perception of people about your job rather change the perception of people about you by professionalism.

Grammar no be money, the fact that people cannot speak grammar is enough reason for you to come to their level during communication.

If you position yourself very well you will see opportunities that lies in that your job. Be humble, accommodating, considerate, exemplary and prayerful,
you will be shocked at the recommendations and favours that will come your way.
