The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, has urged traders and transporters not hike their prices as the nation battles the COVID-19 pandemic.

The minister, during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja yesterday, asked the National Union of Road Transport Workers to ensure that transportation fares were not hiked.

He said: “This is a time people are giving back to the society. We call on our compatriots not to take the opportunity to oppress the people,” he urged.

Let the bloody liar shutup. You tell a tricyclist to put on board two passengers instead of the normal four traditionally carried, and you warn them against hiking prices? Who have you helped, Jon Snow?

How do you expect them to make their money. The best the govt could offer the country was to remove 25naira from fuel pump price and think all is okay.

Explain your post then if you actually think it's worth defending.

I'll cite an example..
Taxi drivers would charge #300 from point A-B for 6 passengers (2 in front, 4 behind) = #1800 at #143 per litre of petrol.
When the government directed they carry only 3 passengers (1 in front, 2 behind) , the price was hiked to #800 at #123 per litre of petrol.
And you think that's not extortion?

Same applies to a keke that charges #50 for 4 persons = #200 at #143/litre of fuel
Now he is directed to carry just two. He hikes his price to #150 at #123/litre of fuel.

Stop supporting extortion. This is a period where everyone needs to help one another

Ask democratic as USA is they don't just increase prices like we have here in Nigeria. Think Government is not doing one or two thing about scales and pricing.

What about the policemen and task force on the road to collect extortion money, or they detain your car because one passengers nose mask is not covering his nose.

What about the reduced operating hours due to curfew?

First, the police have always extorted money from drivers so why make it look like it's a new development?

It's people like you that take precautions not because you care about your life, but for the fear of security operatives.
As a driver, aren't you scared of your own life to allow a passenger board your vehicle without nose mask?

Yes, you made sense with the working hours due to the curfew. But how many hours? Perhaps 4hours. And have you not made 2000% gain during the free hours?

And What happened to making even little sacrifices for your fellow brothers?

I go with you ..i tell u even if the price of fuel falls to #50, taxi drivers, bus, Keke and the likes will still not reduce thier price. Government of this nation is just too docile, implementation of policies so poor.

What stops the Nigerian pricing control agency to go out to confirm prices of goods and services in the market, No instead they will sit with thier fat tummy and flat Ass to steal public funds.

This country is indeed a joke. I really don't know how I became a Nigerian and found myself in this zoo.

That's just it and it's not about to stop!

Successive governments have offered nothing more than mediocre leadership and it's not about to stop because of how we are wired. Even if a new person comes and wants to do the right thing, the system frustrates him.

Even when those guys you mentioned are finally shooed out of their offices to go to the streets, nepotism, tribalism and bribe taking takes preeminence.

In the end nothing changes. The rot continues.

Nigeria as a country can never progress beyond the ordinary. The sooner it's restructured or divided, the better.

Exactly ....ESp this Even when those guys you mentioned are finally shooed out of their offices to go to the streets, nepotism, tribalism and being taking takes preeminence.

The system need total overhauling, all our institutions need total overhauling, sometimes I just think we need to be colonized over again at the least the special sensitive sectors and institutions of the country.

We need to learn from some of these developed nations on how to move the nation forward cos we are going back but instead you will hear Femi Adesina as well the govt telling Americans not to tell them how to spend Abacha loot...is simple of you had spent the previous returned money well they wouldn't have bothered.

Sincerely sometimes eeeerh I regret been a citizen of this country .what a shame.

Well, that's the point. What they charge here is different from what they charge there.
