Edo State gets new REC for Governorship polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has deployed a new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, to Edo State. He is Johnson Alalibo who takes over from Emmanuel Hart.

This is coming barely four months before the September 19 Governorship election in the State.

On assumption of duty, Alalibo said the Commission has no plans to postpone the Governorship election amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Commission is to publish a new policy document on Monday that will guide the conduct of the September 19 polls to protect the health of the citizens participating in the exercise as voters candidates and officials.

Dr. Alalibo Sinikem Johnson hails from Bayelsa State and holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Political Science. He also possesses a Master’s degree and doctorate in Peace and Conflict Studies. Until his appointment, he was a Lecturer at the Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State.

He was sworn in on the 21st of January, 2020 and was the former REC of Cross River State.

Oshimhole will allocate figures for his preferred candidate during the Direct primary and Obaseki might boycott the Direct primary to conduct his own parallel Indirect primaries and Inec will not be on ground to monitor it.. Another thing that will work against Obaseki is that only the NWC can submit the names of party flag bearers and this is the Reason the NWC came out with the Direct Primaries in order to inflate the figures in Oshiomhole's favor.... All in all Obaseki is gone as far as this primary is concerned.
