U're a jackass, i've got all mode's works here on my laptop.
Mode is not into dancehall thing and i wonder when fools
like you will start appreciating good Hip Hop music.
Dan Banza!

Jokes and insults aside Khanye, if you are a true fan of Mode 9 (bordering on fanatical in your case), then you should help dude. He doesn't need yes men like you telling him how great he is on forums, meanwhile no hit records, no endorsements, no bucks. He needs practical help.

Hip Hop is constantly evolving. If you don't evolve with it, you get so left behind. Mode's choice of beats aren't what people are bubbling to in Naija at the moment. His lyrics don't connect with the masses. You do realize that in the real world, the guy has to pay rent, eat and feed himself. The Paradigm Shift might be an album with all the lyrical wordplay, but i can assure you, there is no heat on the album, so it won't sell and if it doesn't sell, he doesn't get paid.

He needs a reality check. I expect your usual tirade of insults, but this is real talk. My 3 kobo

Bamsyle:

You're not getting ma point.

I'm not aware of any Nigerian song with exactly the same concept as Modey's 'Nigerian Girls', but there are worse songs.

Dude, I ain't a woman but I'm certain that there's nutin more derogatory, abusive, and insulting to women than seeing them as sex objects and singing about such . . . Shina Peters has loads of such songs, same for Fela, Sammy Needle, Blacky, D'banj, etc. Also, have you ever wondered why Nigerian stand-up comedians such as Basketmouth and Julius Agwu 'abuse' women in 'em jokes and still get ladies cracking The one called I-Go-Die is even the worst of 'em all - watch all his performances; he can't do without being vulgar. Yet ladies applaud him.

Sunny Nneji sang 'Tolotolo', throwin' subliminal disses at ladies who strut their stuff - ladies dig it . . . so what are we on

My overall point is that girls may not like him, but "Nigerian Girls" has got nutin to do with it . . . it might be dependent on a lot of factors . . . that song did not backfire in any way . . . if it's a club banger, ladies would most prolly be shakin' 'em waists to it in clubs . . .

As a fella, ask yourself why ladies love some guys and hate some . . . it's not sumn you can answer straight up . . . some guys just seem to have a bevy of ladies always surrounding 'em . . . even without trying . . . others are not so lucky with girls . . . atimes it might be due to factors like looks, dress sense, money or the lack of it, etc. And atimes you just can't place your fingers on it . . .

I agree on your point on the difference between the American and Nigerian markets . . . but to a certain degree.

Agreed, if Eminem was Nigerian and he released songs cussin' out his mom, he may not have sold so much . . . but note that there's emphasis on the word 'may' . . . why? cos atimes there are certain things in life you just can't predict . . . especially in a country like Nigeria with a vast population of diverse people and norms . . . have you ever wondered who most of Eminem's fans are His lady fans cut across all races and nations . . . I've checked it out . . . a horde of Nigerian girls love him like crazy . . . with all his misogynyst themes . . . you think these ladies don't understand what he was saying in "Cleaning Out My Closet", "Stan", "Kill You", etc  They do.

Ladies in Nigeria ain't different from ladies anywhere in the world . . . even with the cultural differences . . . if they already liked Mode before he did the song, they'll still love him after, or even more . . . consider if sumn like RMD did that same song . . . even D'banj . . . we won't be discussing this. If ladies already hated a dude and he went ahead to release a song to praise 'em, they'll even hate him the more . . . when a lady loves you, you can't stop her . . . when she hates you, you also can't stop her . . . if a lady loves a dude, she'll see him in rags and treat him like a prince . . . if she hates him, she'll see him on a horse and treat him like a beggar . . .

I don't see any need for Mode to do another song apologising to 'em ladies . . . that's a tardy suggestion.

Cool. I like your analysis. So does Mode need a sort of image change as funky baby suggests or does he still keep on doing what hes doing? You agree that girls may not like him but why? Hes not an ugly man and can ryhme so what is it? Surely he needs to appeal to the ladies to be commercially viable? All the acts you mentioned have a horde of female fans. Tell me a successful male musician who doesn't?

OK, maybe apologising is too much but I think Mode needs to find a way to appeal to ladies, which I think he can easily do through his lyrics in the 'right type' of song

Naija and hating. Everything is hating. He does it because he loves it, but like i said before, man must wack. Anyway, i rest my case. If he comes on this forum (and i'm pretty sure he does), i hope he grabs something and rejuvenates his career, because i personally hope he does. Like i said, lyrically, he's nice with the verb.

some of what u said here is what make sm1 like Khanye come after u.
If u accuse khanyee for not passin his point witout insultin or yabbin
cant u do the same witout yabbin M9?
No hit records, yet he gets awards? Do we just ignore facts cos we wanna prove a point?
Well i guess ur idea of hit record is basically club bangin tracks, sorry cos it's beyond that.
No endorsement? Puhhleaaszzzeee! Tell me how many rap artist with endorsements.
Wait, ok, there is one, M9.
See tru M9 eyes and u'l get this point -9ja didnt event hiphop, thus we cant play it by our own rules
there are beats that r not hiphop, just as there are beats that are not akpala, highlife etc.
A beat can change the label of the genre u claimin u r at.  Yes there can be fusion but then we'll
know it's fusion.Afterall there is a resean we have these different genres.
That is where M9 stands and if u understand that u'l respect him for what he's doin.

Like i say ANYBODY can get a tungba beat and rhyme on it, u think that's a hard task??
Yes i wish pple can feel M9 more and all. I will wanna hear him on some ill beats too
but i'v come to a place that if he doesnt change his beat nd crunk it up , or tungbalize it
to a more 9ja kind beats it doesn affect nothin, i'ma still cop his works anytime.

Again u say he's broke but dude has his apartment, has a built in studio, has been shootin vids
and i think all these things cost money or wat dyu think?
Plus, an Infinity  jeep doesnt sound broke to me or does it to u??

If what you are saying is true, then Mode is doing it HIS way at his own pace. If he's got a comfortable apartment, built in studio and drives a jeep then what else does an artist need?

Riches and awards are not the be all and end all. If he is comfortable then cool. He doesnt owe anybody anything, he will always have his GENUINE fans.   cool

I can understand ur unwillingness to believe.
And truthfully u dont have to believe it.
It dont change nuthin'. But ask ursef Y u dont?
Is it because despite all d curses and abuses y'all dole
out on M9 he still does well in his own right?
If y'all can believe sm1 who's usin cars sent home
by his brother in germany to pose as his, even tho
d plate # reveals such evidence, y then is it so agonizin
for u y'all to even WANT to believe M9 got this one
So until u read in papers? Didnt we read the above in papers?
Does that make the news true? And it's that wat d game is about, cars?
Pple launder their image on paper, so im sure even if u read it
then u'll be like:
"so wat? Na M9 go 1st buy jeep? Jeep wey pple
don dey drive siince, "

Timberland Infinity, lol can u see wat blind criticism does to smone.

C'mon guys, do we really think Mode9 lives in a tree and cycles to work? Why would the fact he drives a car appear in the 'entertainment media'? is it really that newsworthy? If he is not into 'swagger' then thats his choice.

If he is comfortable and doing good ( he doesn't need to be gazzilionare to be doing good) then I'm cool with that.  As long as he has his core fans he will always do good.

Honestly, I am not trying to be naughty, but seriously, i am just hearing it for the first time that mode 9 drives an infinity jeep

Can anyone give me a link on some past/recent interview with any magazine/tv station of repute that can confirm this?

yes, i know about his studio (if it can be called that. . . . ), but i have never heard about the car

star rapper, olusegun babatunde aka modenine has just acquired a nissan terrano jeep. gist has it that the hefty rapper only recently took delivery of a jeep, successfully crossing over from the ranks of artistes without vehicles and joining the jeep-owning class. the sport utility vehicle must have cost him between 1.4 and 1.8 million naira even though the rapper would rather not divulge information about what he paid.

last year modenine was one of the nigerian artistes that dominated airplay, especially on mtvbase and channel o with the video for his song 'cry'. in
addition, besides p-square, he was the artiste with the highest number of plaques scoring a 'hat-trick', as he refers to his three awards each at the hip hop
world awards and at the channel o spirit of africa music video awards. by the end of the year, he was one of the acts called upon by nigerian breweries to
perform alongside foreign acts ll cool j and akon at the biggest show of the year.

details about the car are still rather sketchy but a call to the rapper born olusegun babatunde confirmed the gist. according to him, he has not put the car on the road yet in order to put all the papers in order and take care of other little details. sometime in the not-too-distant past, modey had spoken about his carlessness and the effect it had on his career. “i could easily afford to buy a car (right now). but there are a lot of things i need to put on ground before that. i still hop on the occasional okada.” he had told as many people as cared to listen that he would purchase a 4 wheel drive as soon as he could. modenine, who may or may not have a problem with ruggedman depending on who you speak with has over the
years, been heckled by his contemporaries who, even if they recognize his talent and respect him accordingly, have prescribed several remedies for his lack of
breakthrough in the past. but modey, as the questionmark-signed rapper is affectionately called by friends and close associates, stuck to his guns and is
reaping the fruits of his labour.

modenine joins artistes such as 2face idibia who owns a lincoln navigator, nomoreloss who drives a ford expedition, muma gee (nissan infinity), gino (mercedes benz ml) same as sunny neji, weird a nissan xterra and p-square a nissan pathfinder.

Don't people get tired of listening to the same thing? Piracy is bad enough but this? Wot i mean is this. Each person is into music for different reasons. Elsewhere there are artistes that are just recording artistes and they make their proceeds from record sales and royalties. It's because of piracy that artistes really need to be commercial here and go for shows to really make money. However if some pple refused to follow the crowd and do wot they enjoy. i don't see a problem with that. Fela when he was alive prohibitted any radio station from playing his music without paying royalties. If an artiste has other sources of income he may choose not to go commercial and do wot he enjoys and pple of like minds will still patronise. It doesn't help the industry if everybody is doing the same thing. Big Bamo's songs are very commercial but he's not on all the shows because he has other businesses. Everyone has his/her own priorities. They shouldn't be condemned for that.

rapjunkie:
I'm beginning to think that ' Nigerian Girls' was a serious faux pas by Mode. It is a funny song and we all know he was joking around but did the joke backfire? It was supposed to be a Nigerian take on the Jay Z 'girls, girls, girls' song.

I played the song for my wife, yes, Rapjunkie is married shocked and she liked the song ( It was funny) but she was offended by the overall message. She said she understood what Mode was trying to do but it said nothing positive about any [/b]Nigerian girls and was just steeped in stereotype. She also reminded me that Jay Z's version was much different because  he didn't just point out negative stereotypes in the song.  I had previously read similar comments made by girls on the M.I/Mode9 thread.

Now this got me thinking. . . . . . . . .

If the girls don't like you then there is no way (generally) you are going to be commercially successful. Simple as!! Most girls seem to point out this particular song of Mode more than any other and they don't care about his lyricism or anything else.

We all know that the so called 'heads' only download free music so I reckon Mode has to find a way to apologise and then appeal to the ladies or his career will be over soon.

Or is it just me creating new theories in my head (according to lalaboi grin)

What do you think?
