No you don't need rocket science
the issue is milk productivity of the chosen cross and the ability to survive in our weather and against local parasites

The reason I mentioned India is they have similar conditions to ours and have a history of exporting breeds to Brazil and continue to send millions imof dollars worth of bull semen to Brazil

Cross breeding the Zamfara species with the Jersey ones gave a fine breed as we can see inthe picture, and with good fattening, they would be ready for milking in no time

the problem of temprature and climate shouldnt affect the calfs of a nigerian/ jersey breed, unlike Akwa ibom that flew in thousand of cattles and breeded them without local cattles with local adaptation genetics

Ekiti govt should allow farmers key in and supply milk too.

Good development, this is the way it should be. We shouldn't be eating only meat, adding more value in cattle farming - a valuable product without destroying people's crops.
May they succeed in a greater way

Science is simple yes, But It requires a dedicated Scientific institution with excellent research ability.
Buyers from Brazil and Australia buys Semen from Indian Institutes because they have proven themselves decades ago.
By 1984 India had finished the Genome Mapping of all kind of Animal exists in India (more then 200k breeds of various species). By 2009 they cloned world`s first Water Buffalo. They were working for almost 100 years in this particular area.

Source: http://www.nbagr.res.in/History.html
It will take you around 5-7years just to Map the Genome of your breeds.

So i would say it may sound simple but If you starts today, maybe in next 70,80 years you will get some results. Problem with this continent is that we take everything lightly and wants fast result, like our youth wants fast money.

Would you sell your house and invest based on a picture?

Disappointing talk......

How many litres of milk a day does the cross produce and for how long before diminishing returns set in
I am not in the habit of talking about stuff I know little about

The fact is there are thousands of published papers on this issue .
What is the science behind this specific choice?

(Tongue-in-cheek)

Why source Cows from Zamfara? I thought the North was good for Nothing.

Hahahaha!

This idea of Nigerians disparaging a region when it is convenient is laughable.

This is yet another example of how, even though I don't like everything about you, I could sometimes need you.

How myopic governments have become in Nigeria. Individuals have farms 10 times bigger than this supplying fresh milk to Tesco, Sainsbury and they don’t make fuss of it. I expect better from this guy with a PhD from KCL. What’s wrong with Kayode. Eyes are you here you know.

We still wont seefresh milk to buy na still powder crap

We really take this powdered milk for granted, without it most of Nigeria's children will be stunted and malnourished(even more than usual). I don't know where we will find the light to be storing fresh liquid milk like abroad.

and you conviniently assumed that a PPP project of such magnitude involving cowbel limited and Dr Kayode Fayemi (PhD) lead Government wouldnt conduct proper feasibility studies, involve the best of the best agro consultants? common lets be realistic this is a PPPand its profit driven

While I commend the effort, I am hesitant to say this is a good development. the reason is simply because these so called PPP agreements have simply becomes tools used by "polithievians" in converting commonwealth into private wealth! If the minutiae of the so called PPP were to be revealed, you would see that the government (people of the state) put up >100% of the total cost (usually through inflated costing of the project), and the so called private partner is there to collect "rent". Why can't the state partner with the department of agriculture at the state institution? Make dem carry go with all this PPP nonsense.

I did not assume anything

I asked for the studies

Are they secret ?

Our last president had a Phd so what?

You are not being o objective here

What is the 'magnitude?

You talk about cows in the picture looking fine

Who told you those cows are the new breed ?

I am right to question because there are very few if any success stories of government involvement in business in Nigeria

One wonders why Cowbell does not make the investment themselves I.e. backward integrate

Should be privately owned else too much story go full am.
A wonderful development.

Others should key in to this.
Milk should be accessible to all and very cheap. It's a billion dollar industry.
