festacman:Just imagine, African Devpt Bank being dictated to by Americans on who to lead. Can anyone outside the US decide who will lead the US Treasury? Colonizers and usurpers Same America will support dragging of African leaders to the world court yet it's in their laws that no American should face such court. |

festacman:But does the truth matter? In the long run does it matter if he ran AfDB right or wrong? It doesn't seem to matter to most Nigerians as usual what matters is that our own must not be attacked. And you are among those that clamor for good governance in Nigeria and Africa? The US jailed their own Haliburton thieves but we enthroned our own, but yet you claim the US comes for him because he's not theirs, how do people go to school and still fail to be objective in this part of the world? Sad |

Kenplay:They can attempt but not succeed!!! Not with this outcry!! The "worms" within will be smoked out by this investigation and this might well be the case of the sly one been entrapped by his own cunning wiles. In addition. This will be another visible way of making the US a laughing stock or at best anti-African. . . |

Obamaofusa:You're the one that needs your head examined, can you share the names of the investigators? It seems you're privileged to some information the rest of us don't have. If you don't know the difference between investigators paid for by the corporation and independent external investigators then I feel sorry for you. How can you have internal investigation and still claim it was independent/external....LMAO, I've been an auditor for almost a decade now and this is just comedy! |

LastProphet:US believes in the rule law I am for the rule of law in AfDB. It's laws empowered Ethics Committee to investigate unethical practices. That Committee sat for 3 months and cleared Adesina. Independent investigation may be fashionable but its not in accordance with AfBD corporate governance. For example, Trump was impeached by House of Rep but the Senate cleared him. He stays cleared because that's the law. Take your time to read the 16 allegations against him. None was on mismanagement of funds. It was about employment, receiving awards with monetary value and lobbying ECOWAS. |

Kudos to OBJ and Finance Minister......European want to continue exploit African with all these accomplishment Dr Akinwumi Adesina has made ever inception of the bank 1964 perhaps they must follow the ethics and laid down rules of objectives of the banks.God bless Africa at large. |

Believe you me.. if not people like obj so many things would have gone wrong between Africa and the world at large. Sure he might have some mistake but this man always speak up when needed and necessary. Adesina issues started way back when he was a commissioner in Ogun state, till he became the Bano ok Industry President and Africa Development Bank and stated repositioning Africa countries in terms of Agricultural loans. I hope and pray Africa leaders support their own at this period m, considering the international loans Africa enjoyed for many years. seunmsg: |

abbey621:Using an outside investigator will be going against the ethics of the bank. It will be a bad precedent. The man behind the group making the allegations is the American representative at the bank as executive director, Stephen Dowd. The AfDB’s Ethics Committee, made up of executive directors representing shareholder nations, deliberated over every single one of the allegations over a three-month span and has cleared Adesina on all the charges. Analysts say America’s intention was that even if one of the allegations stuck, Adesina would have to be removed as President of the AfDB and made ineligible for re-election in August 2020. This attempt seems to have failed given the verdict of the probe panel. Adeshina will overcome USA and his other detractors. |

festacman:One thing Adeshina has shown if nothing else is admirable dexterity at manipulating others. Nothing stops him from manipulating that committee that's what the issue is. You said none of the allegations was about money but what about some of the questionable awards of contracts? There were supplies that were flagged by internal control yet he approved their payment. What about engaging Chinelo Amazu who still faces shameful corrupt charges over her time at pencom of which I'm very very informed? ADB doesn't employ such people how did that happen? I have the actual petition that most have not seen and it's worse than the one you refer to. NL has no way of uploading PDFs otherwise would have put it here. Cronyism is one of the worst form of corruption and he's guilty of that one to start with. Nothing has messed this country up like that and we are here defending it. I insiders in ADB say it's worse than the allegations take it from me |

I do respect OBJ deeply, but I strongly disagree w him on this, OBJ is still part of d corrupt leaders we had that has made Nigeria a mess although I knw he's trying to correct it now buh he contributed to the underdevelopment we suffering from, 4 OBJ to come out & shout that US is trying to take AFDB mite be true but when corruption is in question we don't play politics w it that's y US has a knack for ethics, Transparency and accountability which has been d rsn nigeria has never progressed, we turn a blind eye to an obvious injustice because he's African and one of our own... The ethics committee has done their findings & absolved him of all charges but there's need for an independent probe outside the AFDB to provide oversight... Is like telling the ethics committee of Facebook to probe Facebook, they re always going to bend d laws to protect FB, buh when u engage people that re completely independent of both parties which of course won't be d US investigating but a team of both d AFDB, a team of US , a team of ICJ, a team of EU and journalists etc we will see a balanced result.. OBJ this is not Nigeria u let corruption, nepotism and gross ethical misconduct to thrive if we re going to change the narrative for Nigeria and Africa at large we all need to be open to independent probes and let transparency, accountability, equality and justice be the deciding factor. |

seunmsg:What I see in most of the "Africa unite against American imposition" crusade on the Adesina saga is nothing more than a sentimental angle to a purely ethics and corruption matter. I am not surprised because it is a common defence strategy in Nigeria against allegations that we would rather want swept under the carpet than addressed. Furthermore the allegations against Adesina are nothing but "normal way of doing things" when you are in positions of power to Nigerians and most Africans in general. After all what is power if you cannot use it to help your friends and family even if it is against the code of conduct? It is high time we understood that what makes the Western world tick and do far better than ours is their understanding of rules and regulations that foster all inclusive growth and the ability to separate such thinking from the untoward influence of sentiments be it religious, racial, ethnic, tribal or what have you. I am not for or against Adesina. In fact I would love to be for him as a fellow Nigerian. However, I am more for the sustainance of strong institutions and the corresponding values rather than the cult of personalities that have kept Africa perpetual in hell holes. Adesina's credibility will be better off surviving the independent probe rather than deflecting it with sentiments! |

mvem:He might not have a "defined" role presently but don't think he has no say on matters.. He's joined the stables of "previous 1st world leaders" where his words will be respected.. Hence the need to be careful of his words and actions. Na the ones who are hungry but more often trying to cover their tracks that go for envoy positions and the like. . |

Babinski:Thanks for a well written premise.. The rejoinder to that includes the following.. Are the internal rules of the organisation being flouted by the request for an external investigation.. Yes Is there evidence of a flagrant disregard for due process.. Other than the assault allegations not charges against his protégé.. I would argue No.. As its common to headhunt into sensitive positions, I'd be conducive of his efforts to get the best heads and hands on board to aid his tenure. Has the call for an external investigation followed due process... No.. Let there be a change in internal processes or code of conduct and then external bodies can start sticking in their noses after following due process, not before. I'm poorly tolerant of meddlesome behaviour of some countries who often don't have the moral justification. This smacks of such an initiative. . |

slivertongue:Are you sleeping or do you lack capacity to understand the politics of position going on? The bank is an African Development Bank and the Board of the bank has absolved him from any wrong doing only for some position hungry people to go to USA to seek for a way to nullify the action of the Corporation.? This is not done anywhere. Perhaps you need to know that one of the reasons they are using against him is that he hired some Nigerian principally the former DG of PENCOM. They said Nigerian government (PMB) remove the Igbo woman because of corruption and that Adesina influenced her appointment to a level close to VP. The same Nigerian government is the one writing to defend Adesina, if the allegations of favoritism were true, the Finance Minister would not be writing. I urge you to visit other tred on this matter on Nairaland to see his response to all the all the allegations. The office is a very serious and powerful one and is highly coveted. For his outstanding performance, nobody is contesting against him that is the reason they want to ridicule him. |

| Re: Obasanjo, Zainab Ahmed Writes AfDB, Says U.S Has Ridiculed The Governance System by abbey621(m): 3:31am On May 29, 2020 |
kalu61:Independent does not mean USA, they can come from France, Switzerland or any big league country. The fact that the investigation was done internally is a sign of corruption in itself. Unless you're insinuating that the only fair investigators are those internal to the bank then I don't see why external investigators should be a threat, do you? |
| Re: Obasanjo, Zainab Ahmed Writes AfDB, Says U.S Has Ridiculed The Governance System by kalu61(m): 3:44am On May 29, 2020 |
abbey621:I am never afraid of independent investigators on the issue. The first questions is, is independent investigator part of the rules of AFDB? Is France happy with Adesina? We have seen times without number that when US wants to bring down their target, they go any length to do that. My brother, international politics is vast an nobody can claim all knowing. We have seen people images tainted from mere allegation to step aside, to sexual abuse set ups etc If US has silly motives against Adesina or AFDB, they will bring him down one way or the other. |
| Re: Obasanjo, Zainab Ahmed Writes AfDB, Says U.S Has Ridiculed The Governance System by abbey621(m): 3:50am On May 29, 2020 |
kalu61:You're mixing apples with oranges, this is not about the rules of the company. When a top executive is accused of fraud or something ethically wrong, you don't leave it to internal investigations. I do this for a living so I know what I am saying. You can google case studies such as Enron, Keating 5 and Worldcom. All these companies faced scandals and it took external investigations to set things right. You are looking at things from protecting the accused, I'm looking at things from ethical framework, any company that is innocent of any wrongdoing should not be scared of external investigators, please get rid of this conspiracy theory mindset, I have already told you earlier, the USA does not need to be involved, it can be investigators from Russia or Japan, no one cares! |
