, Yoruba in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaican (Abeokuta in Westmoreland). The last surviving enslaved person in the United States was Kudjoe Lewis (Oluale Kossola), a Yoruba man from the Idaasha Yoruba sub-group in Bante region of the Republic of Benin.

Yes once again, Yorubas were the very last group to enter slavery. It's been mentioned here before. The abolishment of slavery coincided with the British occupation of Nigeria/Lagos, Lagos was declared a territory of the British and the Oba at that time declared that Yoruba slaves could return, hence the ease for some to return as they knew their roots.

In terms of exports, they were far lesser than the Congolese, Angolan, Aja (Fon, Ewe, Gbe people) and Igbo ethnic groups.

Population then was 5.4m. Today we are looking at 40m.
That's like increase by a factor 6.

So in real sense. That 400k difference then, would also increase by a factor of 6 , so that's like 2.4million difference by today.

So using the 1952 census, Igbo population should be 2.4million more than those of Yorubas in Nigeria. wink

Well, the yorubas didn't die in mass during Civil War.

You have to remember that Yoruba people aren’t limited to the confines of Nigeria. Their numerical position in Nigeria and in Africa as a whole (taking into account their populations in Togo and Benin) are two different thing.

Igbo the third largest ethnic group in EG? Lol, no longer the second? Now I know you're not different from your fellow dubious IPOB people. This is the ethnic demographics of EG: Fang 85.7%
Bubi 6.5%
Mdowe 3.6%
Annobonese 1.6%
Other 1.4%
Bujeba 1.1%. How is Igbo the "third largest"? It's even included among the 1.4% "other" lol. You're a bloody fraudulent liar. Can't take anything you wrote seriously.

Nah, there are indigenous Yoruba in Togo. The Ana Ife in Kambole and Atakpame are indigenous. The Igbos aren't indigenous to EQ. Try harder.

Of course they relocated there from Ife. They didn't just land there from the sky did they? Isn't the 'we migrated from Ife' theory popular in the SW? Or do people migrate by flying?

Of course they traveled from Ife to settle in Togo and today are indigenous. The same for the EG Igbos.

Denisef Fantchede would have been a Nigerian but for an accident of history. She would, most likely, have been an indigene of Ile-Ife in Osun State. But she is a native of Atakpame, a community in Togo and one of those whose ancestors migrated to the West African country when tribal wars raged in the 17th century.

Yet, the same history that changed the course of her descent has made her multilingual. Fantchede speaks French, which is Togo’s official language. She speaks English, which she learnt in school and in neighbouring Ghana. She is also fluent in Ewe, one of the indigenous languages in Atakpame. Most importantly, her mother tongue is Ife, which some scholars would call Ife Togo, an ‘independent’ Yoruba dialect spoken by the majority of Atakpame indigenes, who trace their origins to Ile-ife.

Congolese is isn't an ethnic group, aneither is Angolan. And you're a fraudulent "historian" for claiming Yoruba were "far lesser" in exports to Fon, Ewe and Igbo people. No wonder you also claimed Igbo is the third largest population in EG.

The overwhelming majority of slaves taken from this Bight were Igbo and it was consistent from the start till the end of the slave trade. Igboland was densely populated and had the population to sustain the slave trade demands.
There were more slaves taken from the Bight of Benin than the Bight of Biafra (which also included ethnic minorities). Even the Efik-Ibibio people left an imprint of their culture on Cuba via Abakua. We can't same for Igbo anywhere though, except "Igbo Landing."

The Chinese are located mostly in China and Hispanics are scattered across several countries in the world (Argentina, Spain, El Salvador etc) but the Chinese outnumbers all Hispanics put together by at least 2 or 2.5.

Also, English is the most widely spoken language across the whole world but Chinese (spoken mostly in one country) has way more native speakers than English (native and second language speakers put together).

Being spread out doesn't automatically mean more population.

Plenty of Igbo imprints in the new world, you just never bothered to look for them. I have posted many of them here in the past, several years ago and will repost them later today, getting ready to go out.

@bold....it might be true but majority of the slaves from the bight of benin were aja peoples, not Yoruba. Individually speaking in terms of Nigerian ethnic groups, far more Igbo slaves were exported vs Yoruba slaves. Also, more Yoruba slaves returned to Nigeria vs Igbo slaves (very few, settling mostly in Onitsha, Aba and PH), thus further reducing the number of afro descendants with Yoruba DNA vs Igbo.

What's the difference then? Togolese Ife migrated in the 17th century, the Igbos of EG migrated in the 20th century? In 300 years time, EG Igbos would have over 400 years presence in EG?

Slaves from Congo and Angola far outnumber Yoruba slaves any day anytime. If you say otherwise, furnish evidence to prove this.

Stop being clever by half

The Spanish and Chinese civilization are worlds apart.

Western civilization and Eastern civilization are very different.

Compare Spain to Portugal where the Landmass in Spain allows them to be superior to Portugal in terms of population

Compare China to Vietnam or better yet India to Sri Lanka where India land mass allows them to be superior to Sri Lanka in terms of population.

The Igbos and Yoruba civilization are very similar to most west Africa civilization with very large birth rate and population.

Even Hausas with a larger land mass than igbo and Yoruba despite majorly being in a semi desert environment allows Hausa to be superior to Yoruba and igbos in terms of population.

They’re still less in number than Igbos according to that list so it’s not something I’d fight about either way.

Slaves from Congo and Angola out number Yorubas and igbos

In fact, igbos are least in my opinion because you have refused to bring out a comprehensive number to back up your claims that Igbo slaves were more than the Yoruba

However, we should be specific about tribe, Congo and Angola is not a tribe.

https://www.nairaland.com/5875972/1952-nigeria-ethnicity-census-result

This remains the last official census result of Nigeria where ethnicity were considered. Before then was 1931 and 1921, and Ndiigbo were clear leaders in all.
Everything else is speculative.

Until a new one is conducted, Ndiigbo remains the most populous ethnic group in the South.
To the best of my knowledge, a champion remains a champion until a new tournament is conducted and he loses. But until that new tournament is conducted, he remains a defending champion, and no matter what bitter contenders might think, the champion retains his belt.

Stop disturbing my mentions with emotional tantrums.

Only mention me when you have official result to beat 1952 numbers.

You can go visit Yemi Oluwale for Ewedu NBS stats and masturbate on that, if it makes you feel good. But don't bring me in. I only deal with official figures from neutral sources. grin
