A Logical Question For African Christians. by donjazet(m): 8:41am On Nov 19, 2017
Why Are Black People Obsessed With The Bible That Was Used To Enslave Them?

When I was very young, I started studying the bible word for word. I would spend hours a day reading all commentaries for all the verses I studied.
The more I studied the bible the more I realised that most of the Christians around me did not believe everything that was in the bible. It was either they did not know half of the bible or they knew and chose to ignore. As a person who always thought deeply about things, it was crystal clear to me that half of the bible was very disturbing to the human mind. If today people lived by the bible rules from Genesis to Revelation, they would be deemed mentally unstable, barbaric or even evil.

If a man ra’ped a woman, their punishment was to marry the woman by paying a dowry to the father. It was irrelevant whether the woman loved the man or not. There was no such thing as human rights as we know today. In wars, the Israelites would kill their enemies, including the women and children without mercy, and would take the virgins to be their wives.
Bible character Lot offered his own virgin daughters to be gang-raped by men of Sodom so that the angels of the Lord would be spared. But in the eyes of God, he was a righteous man.
There are a lot of other practices and laws in the bible which today are seen as beyond barbaric. The Christians of today will skip all those disturbing scriptures and cherry pick on the ones which are positive and makes them feel good, both in the New And Old Testament.
One of the biblical scriptures that remain untouched today is SLAVERY. The hard truth is that both in the New and Old Testament, slavery was never condemned by God. The biblical era itself was an era of slavery. Slave masters were told how to buy slaves and how to treat them. In the New Testament, slaves were simply ordered to obey their masters. Jesus Christ himself was mute on the issue of slavery, He never said a word against the practice, which was very common in His day. He could have simply told the slaves of His day to start social movements to fight against the injustices of slavery. Slaves could have started a “Slaves Lives Matter” movement, protesting in the streets, but Jesus Christ never encouraged such.
The new Christians themselves had slaves. In the book of Philemon, the Apostle Paul sent a slave who had escaped back to his Christian master, because it was the “right thing” to do.
When I first became a nairalander, I remember writing about the topic of slavery according to what the bible said, and the article was obviously not well received.
Now, this brings me to the black man, the white man, and slavery. Today black people are always looking for answers as to why they are still suffering and why they were enslaved. But the truth is the white men did not introduce slavery to the world. It was there since the beginning of time. In fact in Africa, slavery was rife way before the white men landed there. Black people had black slaves. When the white men got to Africa, they were introduced to the concept of slavery by the black men. It was the black people/black masters who sold their own slaves to white people. Black people were fighting each other, tribe against tribe, enslaving the defeated tribes. The white men simply saw an opportunity and beat the black people at their own game.

The whites had something the blacks did not have, the BIBLE. The good book gave them the authority to overpower the black race. The white men taught the black men the bible, and with scriptures like these, they were justified to enslave. “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Colossians 3:22”

Today the black men still cry that they were enslaved by whites, but will not accept the fact that they played a huge part in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. In no way am I saying the white men were justified in what they did, but I believe the bigger blame is actually with the people who sold their own brethren into slavery.
Who is more to blame, the slaves who bought Joseph or his own brothers who sold him into slavery? Black people will never get anywhere unless they stop preaching half-truths about racism, colonization, and slavery. We have to confront our own history and deal with it.

Our forefathers allowed themselves to be indoctrinated by the bible so that they could be enslaved. They were not smart enough to think for themselves at this point. They were even more in numbers than the whites, yet with the bible, they were conned into slavery, in one of the greatest evils ever done to mankind.
If black people are asked to think critically when holding the same bible that enslaved them, they refuse to question whats in the bible as they fear they will be sinning against God.

The white slave masters were bible believing “sincere” Christians. They went to Africa to spread the gospel and saw an opportunity to enslave black people to make their lives better using the very gospel they were spreading.
Today the white man has finished with the bible, in fact they are finished with God. They have removed God from their schools and systems. They are now the masters of atheism. They call the bible an evil uncivilized book. However, they are still reaping the benefits of what the bible gave them, slavery and colonization. They are the most privileged people in the world, and the only reason why they are privileged is because their forefathers used the bible to enslave black people and better their lives, and that is the inheritance of white people.
As for black people, still divided today, still suffering as hell, still experiencing the after-effects of colonization which will probably never end, they will hold and defend the bible till death. The blacks are forever trying so hard to get to where the white man is today, but no matter how the blacks try, they are not able to catch up. Africa seems to be getting worse by the day, black people are going mad with Christianity, some even drinking sewage because their pastor says so. Last year in Nigeria a pastor and his congregation were burnt to death after he poured petrol on himself and the congregation and lit the room on fire saying God would not allow them to burn.
Even though I am a black man, I fail to understand black people. All I know is there is something seriously wrong with them, and it only comes out when they hold the bible. I do not understand why we are now the main defenders of the religion that was used to enslave us? I do not understand why it is only us who refuse to put the bible down for even 10 minutes just to “think”. I do not understand why we moan about racism, slavery, and oppression when the bible we love so much clearly does not condemn it.
If you want to be where the whites are today, the only solution is to do what the white people do today; which is to question everything and think. Remove the bible from your head for just one hour and question and think. It’s not being demon possessed and it’s not being evil, its called freedom. Unless you will ever get to this place, as black people you will forever be in chains. And it is clear to me that even in 2017, black people are not ready for freedom.

As I finish this article, I leave my readers with only two questions. Why are black people so obsessed with the bible, which is the book that caused their suffering? And why is it that they are the only people who when holding the bible refuse to question anything or think?

MY ANSW TO QUESTN 1:

Black people are obscess with the Book of books, which though they do not know was `word and personality'-changed, because its their only cure, salvation and safety to an evil world. Its so because of the promised rest (also avowed by nature, look around us!) at the afterlife as thought in The Word.
That through suffering they might enter into everlasting joy, (for God would not be so bad as to creat His own image and to let it down into everlasting suffering).

MY ANSW TO QUESTN 2:

They are the ones, not us who knew not (they, because the lack of knowledge, understanding, and presense of illiteracy- of not being able to understand) as blurred their mind against the reality of real liberty. Against the powrer of questioning the `why's' of leadership. Against not bowing to every pro and cons until their reasons for being are well known.

To question the Bible to them is like questioning God .... (CONT BELOW)

Ops, why are you obsessed with western education

As a matter of fact, it wasn't like our fore fathers believe in the nonexistence of a diety.

They believed in sth, though, they came to taste Christianity and they testified to its goodness

But, alas, its not! For in the Book of Job (like that of 38:3), as in other places, God once said in reverse, "ask me of things...., question Me...., bring your questions... " And in His Words we got answers to many questions of life. But in this we do not go to for the answers, instead we go to people who are either deceivers, procurers or people who do not understand the Words of life. And thus deceived, it went fort `deceiving and being deceived!' Hence standing as hearers alone, African tribes who heard the spoken words took it up hook, line and sinker as "Words of the Oracle!"

Talàta kaùn...!

Wonder hence, why we seemed backward?

This is our mother land, man-devided by rivers and boarders.

"WE TOOK OTHER PEOOLES IDEAS as ours. But the African natural idea within us we took as nut!"

These are answers to your your humble questions from within me, the odour of the Spirit of God.

Thank you.

the question the op posted is very logical...let me repeat and rephrase it here again ...why are African native born obsessed with the Christian Bible....

Christanity just like islam was also sholved down the belly of our forefathers...christanity was introduce to africa through a combination of gun, education and old fashion pride.....it goes thus

The first thread of Christian convertee were the free slaves who came along with Christian missionary

The second thread were the second class citizens of the society (OSU in Igbo language or the very poor family)who converted massively to Christianity just to cover their shame...

Why the last thread was the establishment of a centralized education....

Africans were not lliterate as the west may made you to think.. Though we may not have centralized system like that of the west, but we are actually not dumbed..... The west found a balance system of governance and administration in Yoruba land when they came ......we have our house of parliament which are the oloyes , we have judicial system which are the ogbonis.....this judicial system check and balance the power of oba(the president) and so on....

The oyinbo man came ta Africa and pointed the bible at our forefathers. They became hypnotized and allowed the Whites to carry off their children as slaves to plantations in America, UK and Latin America!

Why is donjazet, OP obsessed with writing and setting up this thread in English, the white man's language, hmm?

vaxx OP just managed a string of disjointed series of impressions in his mind, thats all, there was nothing logical at all in the OP jor apart from the overdramatizing act. Modern day slavery exists. People are still getting shafted up the arse, discrimination and persecuted of minorities still exists etcetera

donjazet, OP claimed he started studying the bible word for word, would spend hours a day reading all commentaries for all the verses he studied, yet seems to be oblivious of black presence in the Bible before "oyinbo man came to Africa".

There already are black presence from either side of the OT and NT Bible before "oyinbo man came to Africa". Many of the patriarchs, like Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses etcetera married or had children with women from African tribes. Simeon called "Naija" and Lucius of Cyrene, were African prophets and teachers in the founding church and the Ethiopian eunuch obviously is African too

This case is easy to settle!

Just walk up to any black African street and plainly tell everyone that the White men needs slaves to work for them on their plantation in any part of America or Europe. Ask them to give you all their life savings for passport, visa and plane ticket.
I'm 100% sure that 85% of your audience will kneel down before you and start worshiping you for this undeserved kindness! cheesy cheesy cheesy
The remaining 15% will just comfort themselves with sweet words as they can't afford to pay for the passports, visas and tickets. But if you tell them that the money paid by the other 85% will cover all the expenses of everyone, they will start worshipping you without any doubt, in fact whoever object to such worship will be torn alive to pieces! cheesy cheesy cheesy
I think you're mistaking Sir, if you're not convinced with the white man's Bible, just try visit their country and spend 2 weeks.
Walahi Talahi i'm sure the tone of this song of yours will change kiakia! cheesy cheesy cheesy

Why are black people so obsessed with the bible?

It is because the average black man is as simple as a 4 year old child(I wanted to say 5 year old, but that would be a big insult to 5 year olds around the world)!!!

Promise the 4 year old that you will take him on holidays to go and stay in a big mansion in the city of Barcelona and watch the excitement grow in his face!!!

Now tell the 34 year old West African religious mugu that when he leaves this world, a great big mansion is waiting for him in the sky and you will see the same excitement!!!

This is what doctors refer to as "Mental retardation"!!!

Put the teddy bear in the hand of the 4 year old and tell him that he should not be afraid when alone in the dark, cause teddy bear is there to watch out for him and look after him, and the tears slowly dry away from his face!!!

Now tell the 34 year old indoctrinated idiot that he should not be afraid when coming back from night vigil at 5:00 am in the morning, because the lord shall protect him, and watch the slowpoke singing aloud on the main road and shouting,...''I AM SO GLAD THAT HE GOAT LOVES ME!!!"

Tell the 4 year old that "FADA KWISMAS" will come and give him presents for being a good boy and not misbehaving, and watch him settle down quietly in the corner!!!

Now tell the 34 year old brainwashed buffoon that if he is a good boy and gives his school fees to pastor, god will give him times three of the money, and he will say..........................................."PASTOR, I WILL EVEN GIVE YOU MY GUCCI UNDERWEAR SO I CAN RECEIVE TIMES THREE OF THE GUCCI UNDERWEAR!!! ONE FOR MY NEIGHBOUR'S WIFE, ONE FOR MY NEIGHBOUR'S DAUGHTER AND ONE FOR MY NEIGHBOUR'S MOTHER!!!"

Racism is the belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person’s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics. Racial separatism is the belief, most of the time based on racism, that different races should remain segregated and apart from one another

The op is wrong about the issue of slavery in the new testament. Neither Jesus nor Paul could start a slaves lives matter movement because it would be the most stupid thing to do at the time. Jesus would be directly killing the people he had come to die for and save under a brutal era.
Also slavery could not be condemned in ancient times, because a lot of manual work had to be done and there were little resources compared to today, since there were very few invented machines that could make our lives easier then. Slavery was condemned with the advent of industrial revolution in England.
Your lack of knowledge or understanding of history is the reason for this absurd hypothesis of yours.

Slavery was and is never a good thing. It however was a tolerated and in its best form, a somewhat necessary evil

What a shallow answer!

That there were no machines to do work is not a reason for the bible not to condemn slavery.

The very humans that your God created in his own image is being subjugated under another man and the bible supports it.

How will such a human who is a slave live a life of choice?

Please try to put up a solid defense this time.

You keep using 21st century lens on ancient times. I repeat, the successful campaign against slavery in England in the 18th/19th century had more to do with the industrial revolution than human compassion. People knew slavery was evil before then, but there was just no better way to get cheap labour, it was a brutal era of constant wars, subjugations and survival of the fittest.
This is a historical fact, don't give me sentiments, refute it logically.

Also, let's be reasonable at least. How could jesus or paul lead a slaves lives matter protest in an Empire that cared so little about human lives? wouldn't that be foolish? you want him to waste the lives of those slaves? His duty was to die as their representative in their place, not to lead them to death.

I am looking at it from the religious perspective.

If humans knew slavery was evil, what about God who created them?

Kai! I can't wait for The Lord God to show Himself. I would so love to see your face look so stupid on that day.

How can accuse God of Wrongdoing when He in fact and in and for Always, Condemned All Evil?

Is He not the One who said that if you have a servant which even means employee (not even slave oh) after 7 years, You Must Let them go free, if they want? Exodus 21: 1-6

I am very certain you do not know that slavery is the Wickedness and Evil which came out from the Good of Employment, which is God allowed!

For employment is based on consent and agreement (Contract), which no man on earth has ever said that it is not Good but slavery is the Wickedness of Stealing another soul (as if it is your own) to subject him to work, permanently and Always at your Wicked Pleasure!

Did God not Destroy the Egyptians and Syrians because of slavery?

Hate God for yourself and by Yourself, He has NEVER Done A single Wrong!

Yet another shallow defense!

Destroyed the Syrians and Egyptians for slavery yet encouraged it among the Isrealites?

Now slavery is different from apprenticeship or working for someone. When you go to war and kill innocent women and children and bring defenseless humans to your country and control all aspects of their life, that is slavery.

Why did your God not prohibit that or speak against it. Even up to the new testament wen Jesus was alive, slavery was booming. During Paul's time, Christian's even had slaves.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Colossians 3:22”

And so I keep asking you, from the colossians scripture in the new testament you quoted, would you have preferred that the author say: Slaves campaign against your masters or revolt because slave lives matter?
Also note that paul said: In christ, there is neither jew nor Greek, Male or female, scythian, slave, babarian, etc, but all are one in christ jesus. Isn't that good for a start?

Galatians 3:28, NIV: "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." ...

This isnt about the speaker. The speaker in that verse is a born again Christian. He hears directly from Jesus.
It will not be out of place if the Christian God tells him to tell the Christians to abolish slavery in their capacity

That they should free all slaves in their dominion. It doesn't matter if they obey or not. He has taken a stand.

But rather what did we read? Encouraging them to have more slaves.

God made man all good. Satan was outside man and all he could do was suggest evil things as you have seen people do even around you.

You have the power to listen to them and do what they have told you to do or to not listen to them and do what you have or had in Your own mind.

That was what and who Satan was to man. But by eating the fruit, Satan entered into man's soul and now he joins man in making his decisions from within.

But again you still have the power to either listen to him and do what he tells you or listen to the Good you once were fully are (but are now Not) in arriving at your decision and carrying it out.

It is still your own choice to Good or to Do evil, where before you were Only capable of doing Good if you do not listen to Satan outside of you.
This is what Adam and Eve Experienced Before Satan entered into their souls, like AIDS, Sickle Cell and all hereditary diseases!

We were all born Only after Adam and Eve were infected with Satan Disease which is Hereditary, therefore all us have Satan in us. And by the Knowledge and Knowledges of the Bible some of us have found a way of suppressing that Disease until our Creator, comes to pluck him out as He has Promised He shall do.

So till then we suppress on.

And the I say that the Creator All Mighty and Good, created us Good but it is who have messed up and have been messing up, not Him.

In this case Your Failure is your own not the fault of another!
