The Ogboni One Party State. by lawani(op): 5:23pm On Jun 01, 2020
The Ogboni was the one party system of governance that was prevalent in Yoruba land prior to colonisation by the British. Every freeborn was a member of the Ogboni and there were several layers of councils. The Ogboni have a mantra that says no member shall do evil against any other human being. This mantra is repeated like an anthem in their meetings. The Ogboni council is a court and the council can remove an oba if the oba is found wanting. There is no need for a multi party democracy, one National Party is enough and that is the system in China today where the communist party of China holds sway. The system was very successful in Yoruba land for centuries before colonisation. One National Party which will be an amalgam of town unions and trade unions is enough and that will be an Ogboni system. A multi party system can be said to be a Tom and Jerry kind of political system. For a more business like governance, the global society should consider a one party system that is an Ogboni system.

it is more appropriately called a social party. It was a party in the past.

No. I disagree.

It's not a party because its existence is not to wrench political power but it serves as the custodian of the people's earthly religion, kingmaker and a check and balance on the power of the Alaafin and Oyomesi.

It was neither a ruling party nor opposition party.

in a one party state, the one party has all the power. They don't wrench power from anyone. That only happens in a multi party system. Would you say the communist party of China is not a party?.

I understand what you mean by a one party state and what it means.

Now a political party has the primary purpose of procuring political power, what the Ogboni possessed during the Oyo empire regime was temporal or spiritual power, An alaafin is also an Ogboni but wouldn't become an alaafin if he wasn't related by blood to the throne.

The communist party in China produces the rulers in China, inasmuch as it is a one party state, it's not a monarchy like old Oyo empire.

What we have in old Oyo is monarchy and not a party system.

the ogboni ruled oyo the same way the cpc rules china today. The Chinese president is like the alaafin. He is not barred by term limits. If the cpc is a party today, then the ogboni was a party in the past too.
