Back in those days (late 80s/early 90s), I found it so hard to embrace local rap cos they are craps & too wacky. I used to listen to warren g, dazz Dillinger, biggie smalls, ice cube, pac, scarface, krs one and the likes. To be sincere, rugged man was the first indigenous rapper to get my attention, then dagrin, that's all. even american rappers of today are not as dope and phat like those rappers of 90s.

Naptu2, u'v not done justice to this post. I was expecting to see a real evolution from where you started, to the present day hip hop...

Before Dr Alban, you forgot the likes of Zakky Adzay, Weird Mc, Mc Smoke, to others like Dr Fresh, Intrudah, Def o clan, Nutty Pin, lyrical undertaker, chop d bone, swat root, etc. These were the days when the American scene had Pac, Biggie, Naughty by nature, Lost Boyz, wutang, etc, & the Jamaican Ragga crew like Buju banton, mad cobra, mad lion, capleton, Terry fabulous, etc
That's what really inspired our artistes then..
U just forgot all those artistes that pioneered MMV - Mr Music & Video DJs contest, including the top DJs Waxy, Snoop tha Damaja, Fryo, Humility, Midas...& GML - MasterLee, plus the other oga radio rap presenters like Eddie & JAJ.. & Kennis Music

All these set of people evolved the hip hop scene

Mode 9 remains my favorite!

I tell you bro, american rap these days lack the story mode of real struggles and ghetto life of early 90s, i guess it has to do with changing socio-cultures, now, it's about how much you made through "youtubes" and internet credibility, plus the auto tune nonsense, making every rap/trap/trash sound kiddish... shout out to Rapsody and a few others though... after biggie and 2pac, it was R&B that dominated the american music scene, from late 90s to late 2000s at its peak...

All these songs are bringing back memories of lying down on the made-in-Benin couch in my father's sitting room and listening to Blakky, Junior and Pretty and these Emphasis people on radio. How time flies smiley
