I got fade up with the country and i relocated with my family. For me, the next time i will live in Nigeria permanently will be decades from now when i retire. I will come back to Nigeria to love Nigeria and become the most patriotic Nigerian alive grin. In fact, i will paint my house and car green white green and dedicate my online presence to loving Nigeria with all my heart. For now, let me enjoy what the developed world has to offer first grin. Hahahahhah bro, u dey mind her! Some people can be annoying, even if she's enjoying light in her area she shouldn't be complaining at least the light is stable. Nigerians eh I just wonder why we re like this. Nigerian is good! They give u stable light u dey complain say they re reaping u off.

no wonder u talk like this, u re over there and u re running ur mouth recklessly. As a matter of fact I don't speak for the masses cos u don't know there thought. For u to write like this it means I don't want the country to be good at all, Nigerian citizens re indeed the problem of this country.

Did you just say the bolded?
See, the mistake people like you make is to think we as Nigerians should all value the same thing. Nigeria was not designed to make collective progress because we don't appreciate it as a people, it is designed for individual progress. So for your own good think about yourself and yourself alone, don't bother about others, the general society. Believe me, it is all man for himself so you need to start thinking selfishly and forget about others.

Secondly, Nigeria did not fail her citizens. Believe me, they way Nigeria is today, far majority of the citizens love it that way. The rich love Nigeria like mad and would even frustrate any effort to make it better for everyone. If everybody has 24/7 light for instance, how would the rich oppress others with their inverters and solar systems that costs millions of naira? If all those things you are talking about is available to all, what then will separate the rich from the poor? How would the rich do long throat to the poor? The gap will be close. Let us not forget that the rich needs a Nigeria like this to maintain their 'chairmanship' grin over others. If Nigeria becomes better for all and this wide gap reduces, their 'chairmanship' goes down. Nigeria is built to have a form of 'social distancing' grin between classes of people

What of the poor? When you see them complaining and cursing their leaders, it is not because they want Nigeria to have a working system or as developed or beautiful like Dubai or Germany, it is because they do not have the opportunity to acquire wealth, show off and oppress others. Once they cross over and become rich, Nigeria will become the best thing after slice bread. Those things they complain about will no longer matter to them.

The reality is that you need to pursue your own personal happiness alone. Don't think about the larger society, they don't want it. If you are tired, stop complaining, find a way to legally migrate abroad, Nigerian borders are still open grin. If you can't, just make yourself happy anyhow

Just today I was making some random searches online as to why we in Nigeria seem so docile in the face of overwhelming oppression by our leaders, then I came across the history of the french revolution, and how it impacted them so much as to input the right to revolt in their constitution. They stormed the Bastille, killed off their monarchs and returned power to the people.

Most American states also have it in their constitutions the right of the people to revolt and change government, even the right to bear arms and use it to protect oneself from government tyranny. Thomas Jefferson also said when the government becomes afraid of the people you have freedom, but when the people become afraid of government you have tyranny.

With all these, it seems to me that Nigerians will come to a point where they cannot continue to take the oppression of leaders, then they will use their firm and inalienable right of revolt to force change in this country. The whole armed forces of this country including police, army ,navy etc used in controlling and enforcing inhumane laws, fraudulent financial crimes etc are not even up to a million. Yet we have 200million citizens in this country just sitting and watching a handful of people enjoying it all alone while you rest suffer on. People will come to that realization. Hopefully soon

All it takes is a small spark and an accelerant to ignite the whole thing. They say it's the last straw that breaks the camels back. That last load is coming. Nigeria is a very resilient country with a lot of creativity. We excel at finding ways around obstacles. For example the country is messed up so those that can, migrate. No electricity so we individually buy generators. We dig wells/boreholes for water. We are frustrated but not yet enough. But a day will come when "monkey go go market he no go come back". "Choir master wey dey mess for church go soon smell am."

And you know what? This COVID-19 crisis would have been the right opportunity for the sensible Nigerians to make such a move.

All the Countries where these very Corrupt leaders could have run to have all closed their borders.

If Nigerians cannot take this Global Pandemic lockdown to reset the brains of the leaders in Nigeria through united revolution I doubt there would ever be another opportunity to make such a move.

On the other hand, I want to believe that most Nigerians might have over the years built an immune body system to suffering and being treated as Animals. embarassed

Sorry bro I doubt this will ever happen.

The so called 'middle class' who have grown accustomed to generators and a mediocre standard of living will NEVER take to the streets to protest.. afterall, they can rent an apartment with little to no electricity supply, earn a pitiful N100k - N200k a month & drive a run down 2002 model Toyota or Lexus lipsrsealed

The ones who may attempt an 'uprising', will be those living in abject poverty/suffering and can no longer survive ... and even if they protest (which again is highly unlikely), all it will take is the distribution of hot agege bread to disperse all of them back to their dark huts/ face me I face you. cry

Nigerians don't believe they deserve better. Trust me on this!

I once said that Nigerians are the real problem of this country. Even if we have good leaders, Nigerians will be the enemy of progress. People that enjoy lawlessness and indiscipline. Our mentality is bleeped up.

To be honest with you, I don't see any revolution of the sort happening, Why? Because
Unfortunately the high resilience of most Nigerians has evolved into a weird sort of complacency... what sort of spark would be larger or any different than what Sowore started?
What other revolution again would be different? Abi is it for secession, that Nnamdi Kanu didn't do?

Sowore actually started a revolution full on and guess what... it kicked off the proper way too, all that he needed was the might of Nigerians behind him and trust me Nigeria would have been on a 360 degree redemption pathway, but what happened...? Oh wait, Let me remind you... the average Nigerian at the time didn't want any trouble, preferred to settle for the usual "less", bother about the next meal, was not concerned about the whole revolution but wanted to see how it would end up without his/her input.

Well of course Sowore was jailed, tortured, almost even assassinated by dss and the average Nigerian was like "mtcheew ... he was not even the messiah afterall" #StillAwaitingTheMessiah... did they want him to start shooting fireballs from his eyes? look, even if Jesus came to take bullets for Nigeria while challenging Buhari's gov't currently, the average Nigerian would still act very non challant in offering revolutionary support and nobody, I repeat, no Nigerian would standup.

The answer is simple, true patriotism died in Nigeria during the 90's, what we have now are Nigerians who mostly care about themselves, stomachs and maybe their gods... dasall.

Despite this babas tenure being a colossal fail, Trust me the next election I wouldn't be surprised if another probably "western baba" as usual was voted in,
Everyone will cheer that baba until that baba begins to wring their ball sacks... and then as usual the "resilient Nigerians" would start complaining again about the baba being a baba.

This your comment is so scary in its truthfulness, that I am afraid. As you rightly said, we actually missed two great opportunities to start a revolution in this country.
1. Sowore's rebellion would have been the perfect trigger to massively show those politicians the power of the people. if everyone came out in solidarity, I bet they would not have arrested and maltreated him like that. but everyone was afraid, and we allowed that great opportunity to pass.

2. Nnamdi kanu's secession protests and riots. If we all protested in our millions together with kanu, one of two things must happen. It's either kanu gets his biafrans successfully, or some sort of negotiated autonomy for the south east. but again, we leave him alone while we also continue to suffer. We have to realize that when ever peaceful change is made impossible, then violent Change becomes inevitable. We also have to start supporting our revolutionaries in this country if we really want change to happen. we alone cannot achieve it as they will just gun us down. but by the time we bring in real rebellious revolutionaries, support them, put our hands together, rally the masses etc then we have a real revolution at hand, then we can experience change.

Thomas Jefferson: When the people are afraid of government, you have tyranny. But when government becomes afraid of people, then you have freedom.
something deep down tells me Nigeria will never change because Nigerians don't want that change. But I hope I will see the day that Nigerians will rise up and demand change. I hope

If you have the opportunity migrate legally to the US or Canada, please jump on that opportunity ASAP.

I was a proponent of Nigeria will get better for years. All my friends were relocating to Canada since 2010 and I was telling them 'it's not like you guys will become better than I am if you leave and I stay. So I did not even bother.

Note: I was earning over N10m annually in my last paid employment in Nigeria.

Fast forward to late 2019, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to relocate legally to the US.

In less than one year of being here, I must say that it's arguably the best decision I have taken in my lifetime. I wish I had moved earlier.

Nigeria is such a shit hole. As long as you are here legally and you don't have any other legal issues to deal with, Nigeria can never be a better option.

So what stops Nigerians from doing that now. Isn't this COVID-19 Global lockdown the best one time opportunity for Nigerians to come out in thousands and start the revolution to take back their Country from the hands of all these Chronic Liars and Corrupt leaders that have been running the Country into shambles and future endless debts?

You do know that all these Frantically Corrupt leaders and their families presently running the Nigerian government have no other Country to run away to since almost all the other Countries have locked their borders.

If this once in a hundred years Global lockdown cannot be used by Nigerians to organize such revolution to take back the Country then I don't think there's ever going to be another opportunity in decades to come for such opportunity.
Re: Nigeria Is A Failed Miserable Country by Mancala: 7:28pm On May 20, 2020
I don't think a revolution in Nigeria will take place in the conventional fashion. We are too specially unique for that to happen. However, I see some disturbing signs of a build up of events that could fuel a potential blow up. Consider some of these ominous signs that to me are like groundwork for a future event. First, unrestrained kidnappings and killings across the country leading to citizens building up their own defenses; the build up of regional militias across the country not even including Boko Haram. For example, the Niger Delta is armed to the teeth. I have read reports of the existence of at least one private navy in the delta region that has serious gunboats and at least one warship. Another interesting development is the current practice of governors enforcing authority over their state borders during the covid 19 crisis. A lot is going on that is potential tinder after that initial spark happens. I don't think a planned or manufactured revolution like Sowore tried to do will work. The pressure has to build up naturally and blow up spontaneously. The usual Nigerian follow follow will happen naturally. The most important factor, in my opinion, is psychological. Most Nigerians have "checked out"! There is no longer "a Nigeria" in most peoples subconscious. If things continue as they are, it is only a matter of time.

See this one o. I am the op in question and yes I am 30 years old, and yes I do know the realities of life probably more than you. You see, I never said to make it in an instant, you are just the one mouthing it, and you think I don't know the cost of travel? Maybe you are highly mistaken o as I have travelled abroad severally, so I know all the expenditure and peculiarities involved. Again, stop presuming, I am certainly not depressed or anything, to the contrary, I am in the Nigerian sense living very good, I have a very good paying job, I have my own manageable ride etc but you see, I am not delusional. I can clearly with my own two eyes see that this country is disgusting and disfunctional. You talked about using 5million to setup solar power in my house instead of travelling with it, what then is the use of the government if I will have to provide electricity by myself? Also you thinking as a typical Nigerian will conveniently not think of the rest of the people. If I am able to provide electricity for myself, what about the remaining citizens of this country? you see where the Nigerian mentality is so messed up right? And if you were exposed enough, you will realize that it's not only about electricity. What about health? should I also build a hospital for myself too? what about quality education? what about security? water supply? Maybe I should sink my own borehole right? if I will have to do all these by myself, what then is the benefits of being a Nigerian? and again, if I can afford to provide all these to myself, what about more than 90% of Nigerians that can't afford such? I will live you with this, it's not a matter of how much you will spend to immigrate, or whatever, it's about dignity of life, future prospects for your children, comfort of life and so many more. Nigeria has failed it's citizens woefully

I didn't wake up one rainy day and decide to quit voting in
INEC-organised elections in Nigeria. In fact, I was so sold on
exercising my Civic duties such that I would convince folks in my district to register to vote and participate in the electoralprocess. I would provide transportation and convey folks in myvehicle to go out to vote. I begged, badgered and bullied them to vote. Yet, I wasn't a member of any political party. I got no dime from anyone; I just wanted folks to participate. Most did participate...I now believe they just humored me...

In retrospect, I believe I had mental problems then...the Good
Lord delivered me from the spirit of naivete!
We had been studying the Nigerian Electoral system for
years...and we often wondered why the worst among us got
victorious in elections. We would analyse, get data, make
charts and question why our analysis were not jiving. We had
not tied the 1999 constitution to the electoral process of
Nigeria!

Over the time, we started studying OECD countries and why
the politicians feared the people so much. Our researches
made us explore the electoral systems of European countries especially Switzerland and Germany and the US.
all the electoral systems, that of the US was most fascinating
(aside that of Switzerland) as they operate the presidential
system. Nigeria only copied the phrase "presidential system"
from the US; there the similarities end!

Kindly consider the following facts:
1. The US State has nothing like INEC or its equivalent
2. The US president does not appoint an electoral chairman
neither do they fund elections
3. The US federal government does NOT conduct elections
4. The US federal government has ZERO input in elections on
the day of or any day at that
5. The US federal government does not have electoral staff
and does not print ballot papers
6. There are no electoral materials and personnel from
Washington to different parts of the US on election day
7. Neither the US Military, CIA nor FBI is involved during
elections!

The profound effect of this is that the US president has ZERO
influence in his own election! Little wonder the US presidents
are always trying to convince the voters of their policies and
intentions as their fate wholly depends on the decision of the
voters. So who conducts the federal, state and local elections in the US? The state governors?

No! The US State governors do NOT conduct elections; they are as lame as the US president in electoral matters! The fate of the state governors and the state Senate (what we call the State House of Assembly in Nigeria) are not decided by them! So who conducts the presidential, gubernatorial, Congressional and senatorial elections then?Constitutionally, the County conducts the elections!Technically, the People do!
A county in the US is the equivalent of a local government in
Nigeria! The county is responsible for conducting ALL elections in the US; from the presidential to the governorship,
senatorial, congressional and what have you! Even the county doesn't even conduct these elections per se...they devolve the powers to the Municipal Governments...the community...the People!

So in every Community, the People themselves register to
vote; the different parties and the Municipal Governments
conduct the elections! They download the ballots, print, and all residents of the community come out on the day to vote. The electoral officers are members of the community, of the
parties and Municipal officers. Elections are an "Umunna" or
"àwõn mòlébí" things! What the Hausa speakers call "namu'ne" or the Urhobo would call the "election avware" things!

In such elections, the contestants are well-represented in
every Municipality and county. The votes are automatically
uploaded as the elections progress. The mayor as a
ceremonial electoral chairman for the Municipality simply
announces the results already uploaded. Every contestant
would know his fate just when the ordinary citizen knows the
results! The room for hanky-panky is so low that almost all
contestants accept the results!

Now compare that to the Nigerian Electoral system and#thinkAgain!

In the Nigerian State, INEC is owned by the president, controlled by the president, chairman chosen by the President.
police. army, police, DSS, etc, controlled by the president "secure" the elections, ballot papers are printed by the presidency anddistributed across the country on Election Day (just imagine the abominable logistical headache)...and we outspend the USA in organizing our sham elections!

Let's stop here a while and allow us to digest the US and
Nigerian electoral philosophies. When we finally got it, it
dawned on us why the Nigerian State produces bunkum as
leaders; the people don't decide electoral outcomes; the
federal government does!

I got cured of insanity when I had that understanding...so for
those angling for the 2023 elections, it would turn out exactly
like the 2019 elections as predicted on this wall. I have no

Hmmm...very thoughtful and educative points.

This post should have been a thread topic started on its own and moved to the front page of the forum.

Futuragetty:

I have no
quarrels with those that hope on elections with the Nigerian
electoral system...all I feel for them is this deep pity...
For lack of knowledge, the People suffer... nowhere has that

Lol i left for Canada last December. My salary at my suit and tie job back in Naij ( i won't call it home) was just under N200k per month.

I just calculated the income i received this month after taxes. Your boy netted N1,700,000 (6,200 CAD). I'm not even doing a professional job. I don't have a boss. I sleep and wake up when i want. I go to work when i want. I can take a month off ( not any time soon tho wink ) and return and still continue making money.

One caveat tho is that i worked every single day to make this. Day and Night. But i enjoy the job so it's nothing to me. Plus making good money is so addicting. I don't anticipate i'll clear this much after tax going forward but i can still net over 1 mill a month if i choose to.

The West is truly the land of opportunity. Dream come true.

sir, which type of work be this ..give me info too))

Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Before I start, let me ask just one question, in your own opinion, is this country really worth living in at all? Or is it really habitable?
I am in extreme regrets and in utter frustration as to why I was born here. And this makes me honestly hate my parents for choosing to remain here despite having the exposure, means and capacity to escape this country for good, but nonetheless chose to stay here believing that things will get better. How unwise they were back then, that choice of theirs back then sentenced us now to a lifetime of frustration, failed dreams, avoidable risks and threats, unwarranted suffering and miserable lifes. My parents failed me, I will make sure not to fail my children.
Since I was born 30years ago, not once have I experienced uninterrupted power supply in this country. for 30yrs it has been the same exact excuse of shortage of gas or low water levels. for 30yrs o. if since the time of my parents it did not get better, why will I believe it will be better now?
since I was born, all I know is all our leaders, governors, chairmen or even councillors we're busy living large in mansions, driving expensive cars etc while 99% of the masses were suffering, and it is the masses that put them there o. what an irony right?
SInce I was born, everything from getting a job, to getting healthcare, to quality education to water has always been impossible. how then do we survive in this country? no honestly, HOW? do people even know that the wealth in which our presidents and senators use in buying those expensive SUV's supposed to be for the masses? do you know that we suppose to go on rampage and revolt because of the suffering we are going through, those leaders supposed to be afraid of the masses not the other way around. do you know it is not normal to praise or go and beg any so called leader? you elected him to actually serve you and your interest. we literally don't know our rights in this country.
If it is about the present day, I believe it is even worse than before. In my location now, they bring light for 10 minutes and off it goes for 4 hours straight then it is back again and the circle continues, such that you only end up getting a total of 2 hours light in 24hrs, mind you the weather has been consistently hot for the past 3 months now. coupled with the lockdown and expensive food in the market, I ask again, how do we survive and prosper in this country?
Lastly, let us not deceive ourselves, don't even lie to yourself like our parents lied to themselves that Nigeria will get better. it will never happen. If you look at the facts, No single power station has been built and put to use since the 1970s, also no single massive public water supply project has been built since then, we still don't have a single standard public hospital in this country up till now. research centers? zero. public schools? zero. is this country really created for humans to Live in? So if all these things are missing, are you honestly not lying to yourself if you think that things are going to be better? Not in the next 50 years, by which time you have already gotten old and your children has grown to find themselves in this same mess. please don't do that to your children. This message is free of charge and I will urge any well meaning individual who loves himself and his future to LEAVE THIS COUNTRY IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS. Trust me, Nigeria has no future. nothing good at least.

To quote alphaNomega

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BEAR ANY GRUDGE AGAINST YOUR PARENTS. The decisions they made were to the best of their knowledge at the time. I implore you to not make those same mistakes.

Well this is a other sad fact. Many countries are closing their borders to Nigerians by the day and it is only a matter of time before African countries join them.

Today, they are begging us tomorrow to open our land borders, tomorrow it will be us begging for the same.

On point there.

I remember talking to a Dutch guy once and he told me if all Dutch people were emptied into Nigeria, within 5 years, the world would become envious of Nigeria... My response was: if all Nigerians were emptied into Holland, in 2 years time, Holland would get kicked out of the EU.
Optimus Prime was a comedian before he became leader of the Autobots cheesy

Your post had me thinking, under colonial rule, our currency was one of the most powerful in the world. Black people no get sense.

Here's my humble 2 cents. The collectivistic system, even with all its flaws and inequities in the western world that emphasizes the needs and goals of the group as a whole is a more effective, beneficial and efficient system. In fact, this is what was practiced historically in Nigeria before colonial rule.
I will give a couple examples. On my street in Nigeria, everyone has a generator and private security. This is after we could not come to agreement as a landlords association on getting a single 250kva gen along with professional security to service the entire street. If we add up individual costs for all today, it would far exceed the collective solution, not even considering other hidden costs like noise, 3 gates on a small street... stupid inconvenience.
Yes, we pay high taxes in the U.S.! But the returns are great. To me, one of the biggest paybacks is in retirement. We pay into social security and medicare insurance that guarantees retirement income and a floor for medical care in old age. In Nigeria, a large majority in retirement have to rely on their children for survival. I would not even touch on the other benefits of an effective tax system like 'FREE" primary and secondary education, good roads, a link to accountable governance etc.

Nigerians are the problem with Nigeria. Do you know if that idea to have a single power plant and security outfit kicked off, some of your neighbors and landlords would refuse to foot their bills and even incite others not to pay as well?
