South African cars have been having fire issues. Even the ford kuga had same issue, they seriously need to look onto this issue. It happened with BMW, parked BMW cars have been going on in flames over the years...... This needs to be addressed ASAP.
I wonder why Benz doesn't have all these ridiculous issues cheesy

Jawbone, I have a Honda babyboy.

I remove one of the battery head every night. I believe anything electrical won't function while I'm alseep that way. It's tiring, but I have made it a routine.

OJOAYODEJI:
Sorry about this , my Corolla 2009 model South Africa also caught fire in middle of the night around 2am.
The issue with them is the Accelerated Brake System (ABS). My mechanic says once it has any issue, the stuff will still be working when the car is parked because the battery is still charging the ABS since you don't disconnect it.
Am sorry about this but just accept your faith and sell the car off once repaired.
SA Toyota has the most expensive parts and it's prone to fire. To burst your bubbles, most Toyota dealers(brand new) in Nigeria buy from SA probably because it's cheaper. I got my car brand new when dollar was still okay from the famous Toyota dealer in Nigeria.
Sell it keh? Sell it to who? To another buyer that will come here in 2 years time and lay same complaint?

I for say why people de fear to buy Nigerian used.

wtf...i don't believe this a braking system malfunction.
usually such occurrences will make Toyota recall all this models back for corrections or refunds.

I will like to read a scientific or mechanical proof to this happening, it's quite weird.

anyway I have never been a fan of this car.
My thought too, to me I feel there must have been a wire short

I was also thinking that i should had been recalled too then i sensed that clause "south african version/spec." Most of friends using the 2012 model either got theirs shipped from canada or USA and there was no issue with it. Simply say south african make/assembled corrola 2012 model are bad or fake, not usa, canada or australian make.

Negative Ke?
Yes. You are always at the risk (even if it's low) of short-circuiting the positive battery terminal with the chassis ground, but with the negative cable removed you have totally eliminated any such risk.

Is your car insured comprehensively? If yes, visit your insurance company. If you do not know how to file a claim, I can assist.

Sorry for the incidence.

The side where the ABS is located caught fire from the picture. In SA model, the ABS is located somewhere under the brake master cylinder, left side of the servo.

The defect is around the inner electronic components of the ABS, mine of same model almost caught fire last year, I had to replace the ABS with the American model. I was lucky it occurred during the day time when people were around.

My wife parked the car around 2pm and went into the house, thereafter between 5 to 6pm, neighbors called her attention to the smoking car, when she arrived with the key, smoke truely had covered the car, she was so confused, a neighbor around removed one of the battery terminals after she managed to open the bonet and that saved the car from getting burnt.

I recalled a mechanic warned me about this issue with the SA spec but i thought it wasn't true as it actually didn't make sense to me then until it happened to my car.
quite reasonable

Sorry for the loss......it's common with 2010 to 2014 Corolla. I had similar experience few years ago....I parked the car in the afternoon without issues.....the fire alarm woke me up around 3.30am the following morning. Lo and behold car got burnt. Thank God for comprehensive insurance.
Pls Is this car also South Africa version cos u said its common to 2010-2014 corolla. Shed more light to this. Is it common to SA version or all the model of this corrolla irrespective of the country of origin. Thank you.

Honestly I really don't have an answer to that. I remembered vividly the rewire and the insurance officials said it's quite common with this particular model. It could however be the SA version.

it happen to me, I travel to a neighboring state, when I came back, I park the car at a branch I was working, the next morning being Sunday the security of the branch called me that the car is on fire, when I arrive there, the car has gone.
The problem is the ABS no matter how u fix it, it will always gum together, and when is start to smoke ,if nobody is there to remove the battery head, it will catch fire, so the. best solution is when u park the car, remove the battery head, that is the solution
Gbege!!
