What Is Repentance And How Does It Relate To Salvation? by Nobody: 12:24pm On Jun 09, 2020
What is repentance and how does it relate to salvation?

Acts 11:18; 2 Peter 3:9

The meaning of the word repentance has been twisted in recent years to the point that its biblical meaning is now obscured in the minds of many. The idea that genuine repentance could result in anything but a change of life is completely foreign to Scripture.

What does the Bible teach about the relationship between salvation and repentance? First, it teaches that repentance is essential to salvation. One cannot truly believe unless he repents, and one cannot truly repent unless he believes. Repentance and faith are two sides of the same coin (but they are not synonymous terms). Acts 11:18 and 2 Peter 3:9 are two of the many verses that teach that repentance is necessary for salvation. Perhaps 2 Timothy 2:25 best sums up the relationship between repentance and saving faith when it speaks of "repentance to the acknowledging of the truth" (see also Acts 20:21).

Second, the Greek word for repentance (metanoia) means "to have another mind," but it cannot properly be defined to exclude a sense of hatred of and penitence for sin. The biblical concept of repentance involves far more than merely a casual change of thinking. Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin. Repentance is a turning from sin, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8 ). While sorrow from sin is not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10).

Finally, despite what is being widely taught today, affirming that repentance and acknowledgement of Jesus' lordship are necessary to salvation does not "add" anything to the requirement of faith for salvation. It is not "faith plus repentance" that saves, but rather a repentant faith. The notion that salvation is possible apart from a genuine, heartfelt repentance, which includes a deep hatred of sin, is a relatively new one, neither believed nor taught by the people of God until the twentieth century

Repentance is a promise
Re: What Is Repentance And How Does It Relate To Salvation? by Nobody:
Repentance towards God not just trying to amend ones ways. Repentance is a change of heart in which the sinner comes to terms with God and rejecting his (the sinner's) own way and thought but acknowledge and accepts God's word is the one and only truth. This repentance obviously leads to a change of life and most importantly only when one has rejected his ways and made God the only truth would such a person come to faith in Jesus.

Repentance is simply 1) Knowing, Understanding, Acknowledging and Accepting that You have Done a Wrong or Wrongs,

then 2) that You Do Understand and Accept That in All Truth, You have Done That which You Shouldn't have Done (and You could have avoided Doing if you Truly Did Not Want To Do It) because it was Wrong and should not have been done in the first place,

then 3) You are Truly Sorry for doing the Wrong and you desire to undo it or in the least give Compensation or Remedy for the Wrong Done,

then 4) You Undertake and Promise to be diligent and cautious to Avoid the Doing of Any Wrongs in the future, to the Best of Your Natural Ability!

All These Ingredients Above working together as a whole is what Begins and Completes the Work of Repentance.

In Repentance you come to see yourself the way God see you.

David said 'In sin did my mother conceive me' Paul said for all have sinned and fall short of his glory also there is no one who does good.
Jesus said 'call no man good'

Isaiah said for all our righteousness are filthy rags before him.

Repentance that leads to salvation is not simply sorrow for sin neither a vow not to commit sin or showing penance either by restitution or otherwise but to see yourself the way God sees you and seeing God the way he his. God is a holy and a just God who will never dwell with sin and more also he is loving, faithful and unchangeable who lovingly made a provision for our sin in Christ Jesus.
The Gospel states that Christ died for our sins the just for the unjust that we should live through him.

Aha! Why are you spoiling the Truth you once clearly stated by now changing and cancelling your earlier position?

Shall Repentance stop being Repentance because God is Who He is? Is it not the He who Commanded and taught us how to perform a valid and acceptable Return back to His Mercy and Goodness through sacrifices of sin and a penitent heart?

Men this is not Good embarassed

God's word taught us that our so called good works or deeds are filthy before him.

God did not command any sacrifices for sin.
It is God that provided the sacrifices for sin not us.

Did God not tell us and show us what good things we can do? Honour and Respect your Maker, love thy neighbour, care for the poor etc

What sacrifice do you think Noah made when he and his family came out of the Ark? Or Did Israel's House not CLEANSE themselves first before they met the Lord God on the Mountain? What do you think the Sin-Full Woman in Luke 7:37/38 was doing when she cried at the Lord's Feet?

Our good works, done in the midst of our sins, is filthy rags in the sight of God. But good works done in obedience to God's commandments are essential to becoming born again, and also to entering God's very Kingdom. Faith without those good works i.e. work done in obedience to God's commandments is dead/empty/valueless, as it does not please God in any way.
That said, no one can become a follower of Jesus Christ or have hope of entering the Kingdom of Heaven, simply by wishing for it, or simply turning away from sin. Jesus required that those who choose to follow Him do the work that He commands they first do.

1. Be prepared to abandon parents, brother, sister, children, spouse, in-laws, etc.
2. Abandon all that you know/believe, have, and all that you are
3. Bear your own burden (not someone else's cross- not even your family's or children's)

Matthew 10 vs 34-39
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
34. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace. I came to bring trouble.[h]
35. I have come to make this happen:
‘A son will turn against his father.
A daughter will turn against her mother.
A daughter-in-law will turn against her mother-in-law.
36. Even members of your own family will be your enemies.’
37. “Those who love their father or mother more than they love me are not worthy of me. And those who love their son or daughter more than they love me are not worthy of me.
38. Those who will not accept the cross that is given to them when they follow me are not worthy of me.
39. Those who try to keep the life they have will lose it. But those who give up their life for me will find true life.
4. Become a child again in your thinking and your actions
Matthew 14 vs 23-24
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Then he said, “The truth is, you must change your thinking and become like little children. If you don’t do this, you will never enter God’s kingdom.
4. The greatest person in God’s kingdom is the one who makes himself humble like this child.
5. Be prepared to lose life(reputation, career, control, property, etc.)
Matthew 16 vs 24-27
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24. Then Jesus said to his followers, “If any of you want to be my follower, you must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me.
25. Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me will find true life.
26. It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost. You could never pay enough to buy back your life.
27. The Son of Man will come again with his Father’s glory and with his angels. And he will reward everyone for what they have done.
6. Desire above all to find and enter the Kingdom of God and also walk the path of righteousness, with God as your guide every step
7. Let go of all control you have over your life and circumstances, allowing God to take care of your every need
Matthew 6 vs 31-34
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25. “So I tell you, don’t worry about the things you need to live—what you will eat, drink, or wear. Life is more important than food, and the body is more important than what you put on it.
26. Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or save food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Don’t you know you are worth much more than they are?
27. You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it.
28. “And why do you worry about clothes? Look at the wildflowers in the field. See how they grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves.
29. But I tell you that even Solomon, the great and rich king, was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers.
30. If God makes what grows in the field so beautiful, what do you think he will do for you? It’s just grass—one day it’s alive, and the next day someone throws it into a fire. But God cares enough to make it beautiful. Surely he will do much more for you. Your faith is so small!
31. “Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’
32. That’s what those people who don’t know God are always thinking about. Don’t worry, because your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things.
33. What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need.
34. So don’t worry about tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow will have its own worries.

good works can make you born again? where is that in the bible?

some one who is dead in sin cannot turn from sin until he receives life.
The bible said we were all born in sin meaning that are all born dead in sin.
A dead man cannot change his dead state, why do you think Jesus is called the resurrection and the life?

No matter the human good works or attempts to attain righteousness it is simply in vain because he is spiritually dead.

You are not paying for your sins, no one can. All we are to do is to SERIOUSLY and DEEPLY BEG for Forgiveness. For even Forgiveness itself, we do not even QUALIFY for it.

That is what the Bible is trying to get us to understand.

But because God is Good, there is Mercy. Mercy which CAN BE EXERCISED IN YOUR FAVOUR or May Not Be Exercised At All.

And this is the Law on Mercy Exodus 33:19 Restated again in Romans 9:15.

Mercy is ALWAYS at the DISCRETION OF HE WHO HATH POWER TO GIVE IT.

It is not taken by Right or by Force but It is Always Given at the Sole Pleasure of the Giver and ALWAYS at His Will, AT THAT RELEVANT MOMENT IN TIME.

Any other time before or after is immaterial for as Mercy is given so can it be Taken Away, At Any Time. Cases in Point, Adam, Eli and his sons, Saul, Solomon vs Jeroboam.

Re-read the post again, this time paying close attention to the passages from Jesus Christ Himself.

He is the who stipulates the conditions by ehich you can be born again, and He made it clear what the criteria is to becoming one of His( over 2000 years ago by the way). Not even your pastors or Paul can get you past what Jesus Christ has declared. it is His Kingdom, and His rules.

the book of Hebrews clearly state that Christ death put an end to every form of sin offering or sacrifice.
Christ is the end of the law for those who believe.
God didn't wait for anybody to beg before giving us the son, it is either you receive the gift or you reject it.
God's mercy is him paying fully and completely for our sins without our input in any form anybody who chose to add anything to what Christ has done is under a curse.

Yes, this is True and I did not go against it or say otherwise, for if we had gotten to sacrifices, I would have told you what Pure lamb or goat and by what numbers of them all, will be up to the value of the God of this world? None, I verily say.

solite3:
Christ is the end of the law for those who believe.
God didn't wait for anybody to beg before giving us the son, it is either you receive the gift or you reject it.
What Law was ended? Paul who wrote to the Hebrews told us the answer do you know it?

On God's Gift to All Men did I not verily say that it must be taken up? That
"It is not taken by Right or by Force but It is Always Given at the Sole Pleasure of the Giver and ALWAYS at His Will, AT THAT RELEVANT MOMENT IN TIME."

And how do you obtain a thing that is not yours?

Do we not "SERIOUSLY and DEEPLY BEG" and request for them?

solite3:
these below where your words,

God's mercy is him paying fully and completely for our sins without our input in any form anybody who chose to add anything to what
Christ has done is under a curse.
That's what I am saying, God has paid for it, therefore, it is His Own.

Now, Whoever wants it Must Properly Ask and Request for it!

Or shall you attempt to Pry it out of His Hands? Or shall you go to the Place where He Kept it, for to take it?

What does it mean to be born again, please? Does it not mean to become a follower of Jesus Christ? undecided undecided A member of His Kingdom? undecided undecided
no sir being born again is not the same as being a follower of Christ although being born again leads one to follow Christ but they are not the same.
To be born again is a spiritual rebirth why to be a follower of Christ is to walk after him.
only those who are born again can truly follow Christ. Being born again also mean one become a heavenly citizen by virtue of his spiritual birth but how he follows Christ determines his position in the kingdom of God.

what are you saying sir? How can you be begging for what has already given to you? go to John 3 vv 16.
For God so love the world that he*gave* his only begotten son. Note the word *gave* God gave you freely. not only did he pay for it but he gave you freely can't you see, the problem is not God withholding his gift the problem is people do not believe.

Ok! So I was able to pull the following from what you typed above so we can finally get somewhere with this.
1. So only the Born agains, can enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
2. become a heavenly citizen by virtue of his spiritual birth
3. how he follows Christ determines his position in the kingdom of God

Now, read the following passages by Jesus Christ Himself, bearing in mind what you have said to yourself above...
Matthew 14 vs 23-24 ; Matthew 10 vs 34-39; Matthew 16 vs 24-27,
Matthew 14 vs 23-24
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Then he said, “The truth is, you must change your thinking and become like little children. If you don’t do this, you will never enter God’s kingdom. <--- see what Jesus says is required in order to enter His Kingdom?
4. The greatest person in God’s kingdom is the one who makes himself humble like this child.
Matthew 10 vs 34-39
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
34. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace. I came to bring trouble.[h]
35. I have come to make this happen:
‘A son will turn against his father.
A daughter will turn against her mother.
A daughter-in-law will turn against her mother-in-law.
36. Even members of your own family will be your enemies.’
37. “Those who love their father or mother more than they love me are not worthy of me. And those who love their son or daughter more than they love me are not worthy of me. <--- see the requirement Jesus makes of those who want to become His followers?
38. Those who will not accept the cross that is given to them when they follow me are not worthy of me. <--- see the requirement Jesus makes of those who want to become His followers?
39. Those who try to keep the life they have will lose it. But those who give up their life for me will find true life.
Matthew 16 vs 24-27
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24. Then Jesus said to his followers, “If any of you want to be my follower, you must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me. <--- see the requirement Jesus makes of those who want to become His followers?
25. Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me will find true life. <--- see the requirement Jesus makes of those who want to become His followers?
26. It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost. You could never pay enough to buy back your life.
27. The Son of Man will come again with his Father’s glory and with his angels. And he will reward everyone for what they have done.
And these are just a few of the requirements He, Jesus Christ, set for those who will become His followers or Enter into His Kingdom

If your office gives you a car and you have done nothing more than to jump up and down to POSSESS the car, would you have the car? No, you wouldn't.

Did you not "believe" when they told you that they would give you a car? You did.

Did you get (Possess) the car? No, you have not.

When can it Be Beyond Dispute and Controversy that your office has given you a car?

Only when you have, registered with your office that a certain car with a certain number has been allocated to you AND the keys have been given to you AND you have TAKEN AWAY the car from your office to your home.

After all these can anyone (me) or the office (Christ) contend or dispute that you have not taken what was Given? No, no one can dispute it. It is properly settled beyond CONTROVERSY!

Where there is a Giving, there Must be a Proper and Complete Taking for the Transaction to be Complete.

For like ShopRite and all other stores, have they not "Given" their goods?

Does Anyone go in and take what they want and go out? Any Person who takes Without PERMISSION, shall he not be called A THIEF and shall be beaten and thrown into prison?

In your office, after they have given you your car and you did not take it, can that car not be given to another person? Or

Does your office, after they have given you the car, not have the POWER to decide that they would not be giving you the car again when you come to collect it?

If you really want the car, shall you not Beg Them to Release it to you even though they Gave it to you?

Learn a wisdom- He who Gives, Also hath Power to Refrain from Giving at the Moment you intend to take Or even Refusing the Grant of the Gift to You, at the moment you request for it.

But He will Certainly and Most Assuredly Release the Gift to You, if you have properly and earnestly request for it!

I see most people, like you, think that it is enough and sufficient to Simple-ly, "believe" in Christ, without Truly Knowing what "believe" really is. Like you, they are NEVER Able to Defend thier "Believe".

And if you can not defend or answer what your"believe" is before mortal man made from dust, how do you think you shall fare before the Most High, Who Knoweth and Seeeth All Your Very True Thoughts and Calculations, within You?

And Who Himself, is The Very Person Whom You Say you have taken from or Has Given you?

Shall He not know who and whom He Hath Given? And who and whom hath Truly Taken?

Learn a Wisdom, it shall be profitable to you.
