Tinubu implanted Aregbesola as the minister to serve as the instrument for his 2023 stride. Aregbesola didn’t seem nursing that ambition initially and doesn’t seem to have reneged on not having the ambition.

The battle has just started between asiwaju and Aregbe. The north would prefer an aregbe/el-rufai ticket for 2023. They believe aregbe will make a better president than asiwaju and that he is a true muslim. Asiwaju made a big mistake by giving him a free hand to install most of the main 20 local government chairmen recognized by law. He allowed him to use tayo ayinde as COS to sanwo-olu, give pepper the lagos east senatorial ticket to pepper while yayi also retained lagos west and also pick some commissioners and aids to the governor. The north are trying to divide tinubu's men so as to keep the power in the north. If the south west does not provide a unified front, the presidency will stay in the north.

The same Mandate Group that conspired to deny Ambode a second tenure while Tinubu said he couldn’t control them and had to do their bidding is now the group he can so easily disband because his political future is threatened.

Why didn’t he do the same thing with Ambode? Why didn’t he disband the MG when the supposed cry to remove Ambode was at the loudest? It is very obvious he had the power to do so but he didn’t. Tinubu is the driver of the APC bus in Lagos, he turns the steering wherever it favours him.

Aregbe is thinking of running for president and the north feel he his more controllable unlike asiwaju. The north want to wittle asiaju's power base so as to reduce his stronghold on lagos where most of his money comes from. Cabinet reshuffle imminent and the so called 4 years given to the council chairman will be rescinded. Only lagos state has amended their law in which chairman and councilors are given 4 years while other states is 3 years. The local government are funded by the federal coffers and normally the tenures of the chairmen should end this july if not for the one year extension. I see asiwaju doing a caretaker government to remove aregbe's loyalist who are already chairmen and reshuffle the commissioners and other political appointees.
