In Ebutte Meta cum Yaba, there are some streets that are named Niger,Kano,Makurdi etc but Ebutte Meta cum Yaba is dominated 90% by the Yorubas and one hardly see the Northeners.
Pls,how come these names?

P.S:This is my area but I do not know how those streets' names came to be.

In Ebutte Meta cum Yaba here,we have Ibadan,Abeokuta etc streets but my surprise is how the Northern names came to be without the Eastern names.Mind you, both of them are very scanty in these areas....as residents....except for commercial visits.

Anywhere you see Sabo, it means new town. You will notice there is a Sabo between Ebute Meta and Yaba.

Ebute Meta was a new settlement, you can even tell by the layout of the streets. Same with Sabo, Yaba and so on. Ebute Meta was a new settlement and handwork of the colonial government after Amalgamation. I guess the naming, it was a way to to encourage cultural exchange. I dont know......

When it's Lagos and her environs, the Igbos go berserk. There is Keyamo street in Lagos. There are Ethiopia, Kinshasa, Maputo Streets in KADUNA. Streets and Roads are name by Local Government and Government to soothe themselves. I know there's no Yoruba street anywhere in the SE. Don't worry, Time will tell.

Just to foster one Nigeria, don't forget Lagos was once a federal capital......... There's also a location in asokoro abuja, where you'll found almost all the States of Nigeria on street names.

I reside in Abia state, we have Lagos, Kaduna,Kano, port harcourt, niger etc as roads and streets in Umuahia and Aba.

The naming of the street is to encourage unity within the many cultures and tribes in Nigeria, the naming of the street can only do much if our mindset and biases are corrected politically. I lived and visited many western and northern states, the care and kindness was beyond what I was told, with 14 years and counting, visiting other Nigerian states I found out our disunity is political than religious and tribal.

Note:
I stand to be corrected but these are my personal findings.

I guess so because we have brickfield street and so on but why didn't they add the Eastern states names if it were to encourage cultural exchange?

My take is there is no single Eastern states names here.It is my area.I wonder why it was so and it is still so.
Mind you, both Igbos and the Hausas are very scanty in these area but if it were done for cultural integration, the present govt in Lagos should at least give 2 or so streets SEastern names.

You should know the Op is up to some mischief.

Azikiwe, Njoku, Mbadiwe etc streets are not enough. The next thread would be those were originally settled by Igbo.

I have told you that there is no Igbo states names here and there is no place in Ebutte Meta cum Yaba that Igbos or Hausas are settled. Most Hausas would be seen at Sabo and Igbos mostly at Tejuosho markets. All these places are very majorly dominated by Yorubas.
Read my post and know why I started this thread. It is basically for knowledge.
