Ladies and gentlemen the problem with the haulage at seaports is our government payed civil service and our men in uniform.this the truth they don’t want you to hear.I myself is a transporter that operate there.

It cost you minimum of 300,000 to get to Tincan or Apapa ports.you must pay from mile 2 to the port.
They have different sections, from police to navy to NPA even to all the security along the way.and they keep on increasing the money everyday.

For example nimasa junction we use to pay 1000k before, now is 10,000k just for one truck to pass..

At the end of the day the Transporter has little to take home cos you must maintain the truck and pay the driver and conductor, they sleep on the roads all weeks long, atimes arm robbers will attack them beats them and stole all their belongings...

Osibanjo brought the federal unit to help, but they add to the pain, they even increase the money to pass..All the whole security service chiefs benefit from this mess
I heard the navy chief makes 13 million naira daily on the area alone..

If any media hause that can help us expose the mess am ready to tell them everything.if they like they can come with camera so we can expose this mess in our society.
That’s the only way to fight this.It might be my part of contribution for the betterment of my society

One solution is to make other ports operational to decongest the Lagos port.
Another solution which is not mutually exclusive to the first is to make cargo rails available... This is even the most ideal way of transporting containers...

Our leaders know all of these but they won't because they are making money from it while impoverishing and bring unnecessary hardship on their people. Later now, baba will still come out and say he his in SCHOCK

other ports are costly for ship to berth due to high level piracy within our shore

No worries, their cups will soon be full as soon as Lagos Ibadan and Ibadan Kano rail lines are complete.

Because after the Biafra-Nigeria civil war ended in 1970, Igbos who used to control Nigerian government policies and economy were kind of conquered by the joint Hausa-Fulanis+Yoruba+other tribes, so they used that opportunity from 1970 to date to clip the wings of old Eastern region economy as a way of cutting down Igbo power and dominance to ensure they don't rise again to challenge them.

So the military governments that existed from 1970 to 1999 headed by mostly Northerners and Yoruba made sure all Nigerian policies were against the development of Eastern Nigeria (Southeast and Southsouth).

They ensured Southern seaports are made dormant and none functional!

They made sure the plans to dredge and expand River Niger to accommodate large vessels and turn it to a seaport never happens!

And they used years of bad governance, looting to destroy Nigerian cargo railway operation that Oyimbo designed to be used for carrying large cargoes from Lagos seaport to various parts of Nigeria which will also save Nigerian roads....but because after the war, Hausa-Fulanis took over power and also took over trucking and haulage business, they don't want rail cargo to function since they own so many trucks on the road.

Should railway cargo function well, many Hausa-Fulani owned trucking companies will fold up, our roads won't be spoiling every now and then which is a good source of looting for the government controlled by the north.

I understand your point but the coastal railway from Lagos to onne port is also on the way. This will serve the Eastern part of Nigeria. My sincere apologies for not mentioning this

The write up is complaining about high cost of haulage to other parts of d country. But no, The greed, the selfishness must continue. All ur mention is Lagos, Ogun, ibadan. Am surprised you didn't mention the lekki deep sea Port .What happened to the other parts of Nigeria. What happens to the many other existing ports dat are been under utilized. Always put the interest of all in your heart, not just your personal interest. Am sure you understand what I am saying.

How much is the cost of a truck?
I'm dumbfounded myself.
How can a container cost 800,000 to 1.6m to transport from Lagos to anywhere in Nigeria.

This is the greed we are talking about. Please how much diesel will the driver buy on the way. Yet the poor truck wey do the work will not receive ant servicing for a job done.

This country is hopeless.

This country where Lagos is the highest revenue generating state can't afford to repair the road that leads to tincan port or even build a world class trailer park rather trailers will be double parking on the expressways making vehicular movement around mile2 and apapa a nightmare not talking of casualties of fallen containers.

If trump calls you a shithole country you go jus dey vex

my brother the federal govt in their selfish interest has made clearing of certain goods like cars a must only in Lagos. That's the origin of the brown sticker on cleared cars. If it's not cleared in Lagos you're on your own as it will be confiscated. How do you explain that? Also cost of clearing at Onne port in the south south is way higher than Lagos. Why should Lagos be the only state where you clear in the whole of Nigeria leaving other 35 states behind? Leave matter for Mattias joor

People are killing themselves with using Lagos port when Port Harcourt has commenced and it’s less stressful and you spend fewer days to Export or import as long as you make bookings earlier and do all the necessary paper works. The Federal Govt needs to open up more ports on the south so as to decongest the long over congested ports in Lagos. Is this one also a big problem to the Govt?

That's the secret behind Lagos revenues, after ewedu from ogun state will be claiming "we lagosians" they are even planning to build a rail from Lagos-Ibadan..what of portharcourt, calabort port, warri port, wicked parasites..they feed off on other tribes.little wonder they dread staying alone...even Ogun state, the republic of skull miners what to benefit from Lagos too angry
And for those saying other ports are working..you can never clear a car from other port except Lagos port, most importers who are mainly Igbo's are forced to used Lagos port..is a pity we lost the war...
Project Nigeria failed...only parasites dread disintegration

I do, Mr. Chairman. But a personal business POV, I prefer a hike in cost to an extension in time. I rather waste money than waste time. And so far as other wholesalers, retailers and consumers would pay the price I fix on the goods after I'm done with clearance, then I have no problem.

But I get your point. As a freight forwarder, anything to maximize profit after expenditure on the freight in your care is entertained. But even at that, I know merchants in Kano whose goods come into the country through Onne. Las las they are overcharged, but they get their goods promptly. And the principle of "waste of money" over "waste of time" prevails.

As for clearance of car, both you and I know that the reason is political grin

Shebi there is a waterway leading to Lokoja. Is it not possible for barges to haul these container to Lokoja, reducing the distance they need to travel by road? They can build a holding terminal for all shipment heading north at Lokoja or any location with deep waterway for barges.

Shipments heading to Tradefair/Mile 2 / Alaba, can be moved by barges to these locations. Just building the logistics for waterway transport will create jobs.

Lagos has extensive waterways which they can use to move cargo. And there are companies willing to take up the opportunity. Julius Berger is really helping with their tug boats to move barges around Mile2/Apapa axis, not sure of other locations.

Along the waterway from Ojo to Apapa, Petrol and Gas Tank farms next to residential building. One day when one go explode, many homes will be burnt. Why the environmental planners give them permit to build homes there when they'd planned to use the coastal lands as an industrial zone?

Cant the govt call in the brains, and sit them down to think out a solution to this nightmare along apapa road. It's like they all waiting on our lord JESUS.

Nigeria is so business unfriendly in all ways, I am one of the victims of Apapa Tin Can exploits. My 40 feets container got to port and was been delayed for inspection until it goes into demurage. Paid 78k for demurage 91k for terminal and finally the useless haulage company knew is about time for june 12 charged me 230k just to move to nearby warehouse..
I will never do container again. Nigerian government is out to frustrate young business minded people this exclude bribe collected by the custom officer for inspection 250k outside the duty of 2.450m earlier paid

But you know, Hausa-Fulanis love holding on to power to survive cos that's all they have....and to hold on to this power in Nigeria, they need alliance from the Southern region. So what they do is divide the south between Yoruba and Igbo so they will never agree. And they know Yorubas are their best bait, so they throw lots of opportunities for Yoruba Lagos and maybe Ibadan, making Yorubas feel satisfield since Lagos is their land. So they make sure every federal government policy is to favor Lagos development in order to pacify Yorubas and keep them shut from aligning with Igbos to challenge their stupid federal policies holding Nigeria back.

So once they have settled or bribed Yorubas through policies that favor Lagos, the Yorubas can then keep quiet while Igbos alone wail to their chagrin grin
