I'm shocked at how the cases have risen tremendously. I dont know what to believe anymore.

The FG should not be in a haste to lift restrictions on interstate ban, Domestic Airline, schools, event centres.

Churches and mosques should be shutdown immediately. All markets opened in various states should be shutdown immediately.

We cant fold our arms and watch this Pandemic to keep spreading. Enough is Enough.

INEC may wish to proceed with Edo and Ondo elections as its constitutional.

Parties can do campaigns but with prescribed guidelines.

We shall overcome

South Africa's case seems to be a result of people not taking caution or they lost the window to actually test cos I don't see why they have carried out 1 million tests and it looks like they're just starting

The main aim of the SA lockdown was to prepare the health system for an impending tsunami by purchasing and manufacturing medical equipment and setting up temporary facilities. The government was clear from the onset that infection rates will be massive (in the millions, at worst) and expecting to peak in September. So they are now in a far better position to handle the pandemic than if they had not enforced a locked.

As a result SA recovery rate stands at around 50% and death rate at just around 2.3%.

I agree with you. They have a plan just like Ghana, it's just that, unlike Ghana, their death rate is forborddingly unsettling.

Yes, the death rate is beginning to alarm us too. But it was also predicted because as you know SA suffers from a high disease burden of diabetes, TB and HIV. So many of the dead had compromised immune systems.

So it is majorly all over the world. How many people are actually sound in health with the burden of poor nutrition engendered by poverty? Now the shocking revelation is that it took Africa 98 days to get to 100,000 cases, but just 18 days to tally 200,000 and ever since the records have been shooting the continent.
We will overcome, not because we are any prepared, but because of our uniqueness whatever that means ; cheesy

Hmm... I also don't know what is going on in Africa that the cases are relatively low, but have you taken some time to contrast us with India? Same population size and socio-economic factors. Please look into it coz I see you're good with numbers.

Totally agree. Will Cameroon cope - once you are in the 1000s for new daily numbers, it's difficult to contain the numbers.

You are a very keen observer too. I have been watching Bangledash, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Qatar, Colombia, Egypt and SA, these are new comers to the 1,000 league and they seem to have remained, a function of sustained testing effort, unlike Nigeria.

Like trump said no testing, no cases grin. We aren't testing as much as other continents and I want to believe as far back as when the outbreak began Africa didn't really see a huge influx of tourists thereby limiting the level of spread initially. And right now some African states don't feel it's time for mass testing(probably what suits them best).

Much of Africa is severely handicapped with capacity to carry out adequate testing to curb the virus. What I am concerned about is that going forward I cannot tell how this shortfall will rebound against our poor healthcare infrastructure. I see what is currently happening now becoming a norm. What is it? Self-medicating by reaching out for OTC drugs. In one state in Nigeria right now pharmacists have already noted an unusual significant patronage for antimalarial medications plus vitamin C. The loud presence of vitamin C to this combination speaks volumes - it is sure a fight against cases of Covid-19, as many complain of inability to smell and taste even after treating for the said 'malaria'.
Africa relies on nature to survive going forward. As for India, even though there is a spike, they are only going for isolated lockdown as many are reportedly dieing from hunger as a result of loss of employment brought about by the pandemic. In Africa, as in India, many are more concerned about the unknown, that is survival, rather than the known, which is Covid-19.
With a job you can get resources to obtain medication for Covid-19, but without a job one is faced by both poor health and hunger, and the latter is more feared than the former - faced, not just between, but by both the devil and the deep blue sea - Covid-19+hunger. This is the foreboding scenario and millions are sadly caught up in it.
With time, as the tempo dies out, the government may not be able to sustain free testing+treatment, because it weighs too heavily on health budget - meaning, going forward individuals will have to be responsible to bear the cost of testing, without which no hospital would want to take the risk of attending to you. This picture sounds glooming, I am sorry - here the need for a vaccine or a highly subsidized proven medication comes in.

That is my concern. Contrary to the opinion of some that the pandemic has lasted enough to know it's full strength, I make bold to say that even with our poor testing, Africa is just now entering the true threshold of the pandemic as community transmission has only just begun.
We find a good example in the Americas. While Europe was deep in the pandemic it would seem Asia and South America were immuned, but current reality proves otherwise. Traffic inflow into Africa is not as dramatic as in developed world, but with community transmission now taking place that notion, I am sorry, has been overtaken.

I pray it doesn't hit you. A medical practitioner, who is my in-law, lost his life to the disease this morning in Nigeria, he is 41 years old with occasional high BP. The disease is just like malaria for many but if your immunity is compromised due to high blood pressure, diabetics or similar diseases. it can be fatal. Be careful and stay safe.

I guess you're right. It's interesting how people are self-medicating in your part of the world especially because of access to malaria drugs. The first time most South Africans heard about hydroxychloroquine was just a few months ago and it's not stocked in large quantities here - no malaria. So the combination with vitamin c has also not gained traction here but the Madagascar herb is becoming popular after people realised we'd been using it all along but under African traditional practice.

What I meant about India was if you could contrast the numbers versus Africa as a whole. Rate of infection, recovery and death since there are socio-economic similarities between that massive country and our continent.
