Dogma 8.5/10

Hilarious and bath!t crazy, this comedy-drama sees two cast-out angels attempt to gain re-entry into heaven by exploiting a catholic dogma (Matt Damon Been Affleck), the voice of God recruits a young catholic woman with a wavering faith to try and stop them, aided by Rufus the thirteenth disciple of Christ that was omitted from the Bible because he was black (Chris Rock) and two crazy drifters looking for loose women to exploit for sex.

Laden with plenty of funny moments, the film pokes a lot of fun at Christian doctrines and faith.

They even had the balls to portray God in the form of a crazy childlike b!tch that likes to take the form of a human to play some sort of sport. She even gives one of the characters a boner!
wtf grin grin grin I gotta watch this grin

I really do not know which year you will have sense. You people use the supposed anonymity of this forum to be disrespectful to others, but at the end of the day it is yourself you are doing.

If you will not respect people's opinions and tastes then you have no business in civilised society.

This is my last word to you because you and your ilk are not deserving of civil interaction.

The Lodge-

This is a total mindfucking movie. It's a slow burn but begins to pick up from the middle. The movie is tight, tense, creepy and the end, totally unexpected. A soon-to-be step mother spends time with her fiance's two children in their mountain home during a snow storm, and when the fiance has to leave them to go back to town because of work, everything turns upside down.

Moral of the story- Don't mess with things you can't fully understand. Don't start what you can't finish.

At the end of the film I said to myself "Oh God what a clusterfuck." Smh

4 stars. grin grin grin grin grin

This is a television movie about government overreach. Silencing dissenting opinions and severely punishing those deemed to be offenders.

This is so apt for the state of the thread.

Bro, this is kinda complicated issue because I don't see you winning this case. I've been on NL long enough to know reports against mods more often than not, leads to nowhere. The one or two times I've been wrongly banned by the mods, I complained to a super mod with evidence and it yielded nothing. I can't even remember what happened anymore, but what I know is that the super mod didn't unban me despite all the evidence I presented. I'm not saying the mod wiping out these posts is wrong or right, just saying I don't see your protest changing anything.

The recent BLM posts which I believed got hidden (I'm not really sure coz I came online to meet hidden posts everywhere and few quoted posts on BLM to indicate the posts hidden might be related to BLM discussions) didn't spring out of the blue, it originated from a Dave Chapelle Netflix special which is a show and therefore falls within the ambit of this thread. When Chappelle's Sticks N Stones debuted sometime in the past, I remember us discussing on it, gaining and sharing knowledge. What now changed? Why were we allowed to discuss topics of jokes in Chappelle's shows in the past on here but suddenly not allowed to discuss BLM topics raised in his recent show? What changed? Doesn't it fall under the jurisdiction of this thread? I personally see no reason why those interested in the topic shouldn't discuss it.

In the past, I've seen topics that are not related to movies being discussed here, some I found interesting, some I didn't. I believe in the flexibility of a thread. One of the reasons this thread was so much fun was our ability to talk about other issues and get help without the reports to the mods. If we'd stuck STRICTLY to topic of this thread, it'd have been an abandoned land a long time. A knowledge or two can be gained in general discussions. I don't see how BLM talks would have stopped anyone discussing a movie. Before now, I can't even remember us debating on BLM issues before on this thread. It's recent happening that shone light on it.

I visit the Sports section threads regularly and they discuss just about anything on those threads; both politics, health, religious issues, etc., and one can gain a lot of knowledge from the topics. The varying range of topics discussed there without the policing of the mods (except when insults are involved or things gets nasty) makes there so much fun. This thread used to be like that, but nowadays, any small thing, posts are reported and what follows is a total wiping of posts deemed not movie/show related.

This is not an attack on Ishilove, and her detractors shouldn't use this paragraph to attack her PLEASE, but I find it unsettling that she had discussed off topic issues in the time past here before and her posts weren't reported, but she confirmed that she reports posts. I remember bringing her computer problem here with Koïce and others helping her out on how best to go about it, even Örnicus decided to help her offline with it if she could bring the computer to him. Those posts weren't reported. We helped her out with one or two advice. I've also seen her discuss topics here not related to movies uncountable times and her posts weren't reported, so why report other people's posts when they are not insulting you? I can understand if it's insulting posts being reported (she has returned back her own fair share of insults in the pasts as well), but when a topic doesn't intrest you, you don't have to report it. It's only a matter of time before topics that does intrest you would be raised. I'm not a comic person and usually don't discuss or partake in comics topics, but I don't report it. I wait till a topic that interests me springs up and I learn or engage in it.

The policing of this thread in recent times is too much. Let's allow for some flexibility. Knowlege is limitless, we all learn everyday.

Bros, please shift to one side and give me space to stand with you.
You just said the whole unbiased truth about this thread.

Some people have appointed themselves as the thread's class captain and taken it upon them to be policing the thread.

The funniest part was that another thread was created by the thread's task force - they migrated there - bid here goodbye and yet can't seem to stop thinking about the participants here, only to come back and continue bitching about whatnots.

Why create another thread if you won't leave the participants of the initial thread to do as they please?

@ bold;
This has been my point from day 1. Where there is intelligent discussion on movies, even though it is tangential, it should be allowed.

I am not defending trolling. If there is abuse, it should be corrected or punished. But banning innocent discussions as derailing is unfair.

Thanks a lot.

I see some general discussions as an avenue to learn one or two things. Having never been outside Nigeria, I learned a lot on cops brutality on a SPORTS THREAD, not an international politics thread. I learned that Derek Chauvin who killed George Floyd had been reported SEVERALLY in the past about cop brutality on others. He had pending cases of crime on him but his bosses allowed him to continue being a cop and he ended up killing Floyd when he'd have been suspended or banned temporarily till the case was resolved. This is how one gains knowledge.

When war or army related movies are discussed here, you bring in your knowledge about army/wars which proves quite insightful. Most times, you and your co-debater move away from the movie in question and start talking about wars in general, but still there were one or two knowledge one can gain about history from the discussion.

Flexibility is key to sustaining a thread. It mustn't be 100% thread related.

My point as well. It's also hypocritical to ban people discussing a topic in movie/show when such has been allowed in the past here.

Freaks-

This movie is very interesting. It's about a girl with super powers who thinks her overprotective father is paranoid, and when she finally goes out into the world, discovers that the dangers are very real. I have never been much of a sci-fi person but this one takes the cake.

If I may lend my voice to the outburst on the unnecessary policing of this wonderful (at least in the not-too-far past) thread. I doubt if there is any participant (passive or active) of this thread that has not 'derailed' this thread in the past. The beauty of this thread, just like other legendary threads, lies in the diversity in its discussants and topics of discussion. I have learnt, re-learnt and unlearned some important things from various 'off-topic' discussions in here. Surprisingly and interestingly, most discussions that are tagged comic and childish grow into something more mature and educative.
Believe it or not, some characters here teach morals by their act and with their texts, a recent example is mekaprime2 accepting corrections (after few attempts to resist though) from a topic that is not related to movie (Am and I'm).
This thread is for all and no one has the right to intimidate anyone here. This annoying e-snitching on trivias that we lost interesting characters like Prof. Hulk to should stop.

Thank you
