Lionel Messi has returned to training ahead of Barcelona's game at home to Athletic Bilbao, with the Argentina star sporting some visible scars on his leg.

Messi was the victim of a rash challenge from Sevilla defender Diego Carlos in Barcelona's previous game.

Throughout the game, which ended 0-0, Messi often clashed with Carlos and pushed him to the ground at one stage after the Sevilla player fouled Luis Suarez.

Sevilla had a chance to secure all three points in the closing stages of the game, but Sergio Reguilon, who is on loan from Real Madrid, saw his shot saved.

Barcelona are currently three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, although Real have a game in hand.

Quique Setien's side will be determined to return to winning ways when they take on Bilbao, who are in ninth place in La Liga.

Although Messi was unable to find the net against Sevilla, he is, rather unsurprisingly, leading the race for the La Liga golden boot with 21 strikes so far this campaign.

Messi is currently five goals ahead of his closest challenger, Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

dts d other side of football and still part of football, i knew messi was really hurt and angry by dt carlos guy for messi to react like dt...players sometims get scars and nid stiches after training and matches and the worst is dt the refree or cameras hardly know abt it or sees it...i remember fellipe luiz of athletico posting graphic pics of injury he received from suarez after they both clashed in camp nou and he was even blasted to take down the pics because it looked lyk gunshot wounds and even remember suarez sayin "wat happens on the pitch stays on the pitch" because sharing dt pics made it look asif it was intentional from suarez.....dts part d price they pay for the sweet weekly alert they receive...no pain no gain.

VAR was on a mission last night.....

Even though i wouldn't want to complain about Real Sociedad's disallowed goal despite the defender not interacting with the shot on goal,

Benzema'a hand ball is inexcusable though. That hand ball was clear but even the VAR couldn't pretend to miss it.

The plan is to hand Real VARdrid the league.
