Hello I just got a pup 1 week ago. I noticed the day I got it that it was a little bit sluggish. This was contrary to former reports before it came here that it was very stubborn and doesn't even hang out with it's fellow pups. So I thought it's lethargy since it got here was probably because it was getting used to a new environment.

But right now I've noticed it has developed a 'slightly' bigger stomach. Thought it was because we were overfeeding it but it stopped eating any food since yesterday except from chicken and fish.

- It's lethargic.
- Breathes heavily once in a while.
- Sleeps almost everytime..
- Used to eat until everything until yesterday so I didn't quickly suspect anything was wrong.

Please what could be the problem.

Visit a vet, lack of eating might be that the dog is tired of eating that particular food. Have you given the dog any shot?

Same thing happened to my pup few days back... had to rush to the vet for a quick intervention.
First he dewormed her. Dunno which did the job tho. But he gave her an injection and a liquid substance in her mouth that made her vomit on our way back home, and 2other times while at home.
So i guess it was indigestion due to over feeding.
The then vaccinated her 2days later before her due date.
Now she back on her feet super active and lively too..

My dog just fell on my feet minutes ago. It's dying and breathing seriously. I took it to a vet yesterday and he gave it an injection for antibiotics, said it'll be given deworming injection today.

Real reason I avoid having pets in Nigeria. The vets are quacks. I'd be angry if it turned out all the pup had was worms and it ends up dying. Looking at its case I think it's obvious it's worms.

Also shouldn't vets be testing dogs before administering treatments?

Thanks everyone for your replies. The dog was dewormed yesterday. My sis saw a live worm come out of the dog few hours ago. Is this normal? Does that mean it's not working?
It came out of its anus.

I sent in an update on this thread and I'm surprised it's not on here. Probably didn't go through.
My dog is perfectly fine now. Just started to get well on its own. Just deworm your dog. After deworming your dog it might become very weak o but it'll get better with time. The day before my dog got better, I thought it'd die in hours. It couldn't even move. Just slept there looking at me with teary eyes. Was so painful. I'm glad it's okay now
