My passport expires in November and I am yet to be scheduled for interview. I have submitted all documents to NVC, just waiting for interview. Is it advisable to get a new passport and update after I get interview date? Basically when is the best time to introduce a new passport?
Hello techsavy1, I guess you submitted your expired passport since you’ve submitted all your documents to nvc already, however, you’ll need to get a new passport as fendorf advised. They will ask for your new passport during your interview but make sure you go along with the old passport you submitted.

I needed clarification on how this whole process work.
I am completely new to it and have zero clue.

Early last month I go a call from my mum that my Green card has been approved, she filed for it years ago.

But currently I filling the DS 260 form.

Can you explain the process, so I can avoid unnecessary errors.

Secondly at what point would I need the police certificate?

Thirdly, I am currently single. But a lady who just got married last year is asking if she could accompany Me as my spouse. I want to know the possible implication of this and if it would have any negative effect on me in future.

Thanks in advance.

Once you get your Welcome Letter from NVC,

The first step is to pay required fees. (IV fee and Affidavit of Support fee). IV is $325 and AOS is $120
After you made the payment, it will take couple of days/weeks to process. (It took 2 days for me)

Once the payment process, you can start to fill out online IV application which is DS-260. One important note about DS-260 is once you submit the application you cannot edit it. So please double check your application before you hit submit. Also you will need to print out the confirmation page for the interview stage.

After the DS260 submission the civil documents tab will open up and you will need to upload scanned Passport Biographic page, marriage certificate, Police certificate (from beneficiary's home country), Birth certificate and Photograph.

Once you upload all required Civil documents you can click "Submit Documents".

For the AOS, you will need to find which I-864 form you need and download it from USCIS official website and after filling it out you will need to upload it to the NVC system. Make sure you combine all pages as one file before uploading.

If your sponsor doesn’t meet the Household income requirements, you will have an option to add joint sponsor/ household member once your payment did process. You follow same steps here as AOS.

After forms submitted, AOS uploaded and Civil documents submitted in the system. You will need to wait NVC to review your case and send you "Documentary Qualified". Also known as C C ( case complete)

Regarding your second question: I believe you’ve found the answer in between my post, you need to start uploading after filling the ds260 form.

Regarding your third question: its not advisable, it’s fraud, the US government frown at this, and the implications is severe. It has a lot of negative effects! So don’t try it.

Must the Police report be from my home country or can the present country of residence suffice?

It seems like i have to be present in Nigeria to get one and i do not plan on going back anytime soon

What’s your pd and visa class? You know there’s already a backlog due to the covid19, so nobody is certain as to when you’ll get interviewed letter. So I will advice you get a new passport a month before the old one expires or you get a new one before your interview. They are not going to issue visa on an expired passport.

Well, some country do insist on getting the home country police report, however, you can get someone to help you get it in Nigeria.

At the point of your interview you need a passport with at least 6 months validity. Your current passport does not have that. So get a renewal

Then get a lawyer to go Alagbon police station which is where it is done

Pay lawyer for his services, He will collect the form on behalf of his client and send it to you - you'll then thumbprint scan and send back to him

Worst case a lawyer will charge you 15k-20k

If you dont trust people you know offline to not scam you, wouldn't forum people tat are anonymous not do the same?
If you cant come to do it yourself then get a lawyer to do it.

Hi Duuzsz...You have been so helpful and detailed...Who are those required to fill the I-864 forms? Would the sponsor or petitioner still be required to fill the I-864 form when his/her income doesn’t meet the Household income requirements or just the joint sponsor is required to fill the form in that case.

I totally concur cause norm the passport takes 5days to process while express takes just 48hrs to be processed but due to covid19 I think it’s gonna take longer to process, so techsavy1 get a new passport ASAP

Hello Yomze, the sponsor is to fill the I-864 form but if the sponsor doesn’t meet the household income requirements, then you’ll need a joint sponsor or a co-sponsor to fill the form. That is, both the sponsor and the joint sponsor will need to fill the form I-864

But if you want to use a co-sponsor, then it has to be a household member, someone living in the same house with your sponsor. However, the sponsor will fill form I-864 while the co-sponsor will fill I-864A form. Please there’s a difference between those forms. Hope this is helpful?

The co-sponsor could be friends. 2 Co-sponsors are allowed.

AP is been replaced with the term “refused” these days, it will later change to “issued” provided the interview she had went well. I’ve seen a lot of cases similar to your Aunty’s case. ofcourse there’s hope, there’s nothing to worry about here.

Depends on whether the EO affects you.

If your Spouse or child under 21 of USC, IR (except parents) then embassies are already treating these cases for interview in other countries and so will nigeria soon enough. Those with cancelled interviews would be done first then scheduling dates for DQ

I suspect more consular services will open up in August.

For those affected by all EOs and travel bans specific for countries till after Election in November.
Who becomes US President will decide a lot

Due to the ban does it mean no one can start an I-130 application with a spouse in the USA (a citizen)?
