In all my 10+ years of working in the corporate world. I have never seen an offer letter so appalling.

This employer comes across as unwelcoming and rigid, your work conditions seem stringent and suffocating.

If I received this, I would turn it down because the workplace feels like a prison, where I will be an inmate.

The pay is not so great either for me to jump in.You will do more than just receiving/sending mails as the secretary.

I don't know your home situation so discuss this with your spouse before you make a final decision.
Thanks dear

Note the offer letter was sent via email. From your awesome advise so far, I gave them this reply..........

The Director.
................................

Dear sir,

Plead for Modification of offer letter

I have received your offer letter and I will gladly accept to work with your organization if all these will be considered.

In the view of this " I am directed to offer you a position in our organization as Head Microbiologist and the chairman's secretary."
I want to clarify you that I only applied for the post of microbiologist, while you asked me to help you with secretary work for a mean time before your organization employs a new Secretary. So with this, I plead that this offer letter will be modified strictly to the post of a microbiologist only. I will still help with the secretary work for a time being which you have to state the time interval your organization will employ a secretary. This is to enable me discharge my duty as a microbiologist effectively and as required.

Also, as much as I am expecting to get salary increment after the six months probation period. I am still insisting to be given a day off on Wednesdays in order to help me put my home in place since I will be staying in the factory's quarter within the week. Thanks in anticipation.

Yours Faithfully,
.............................

did I just see Igbesa? are you staying around there? which factory is it Viju or Tiles, most of the factory in Igbesa are owned by Chinese and India... my advice for you is to get a better job, people working daily are treated bad by the Chinese or India master.
they want you to work without going home till weekend, that is very bad.
As I saw igbesa the same thought came to my mind too.

The microbiologist and secretary is a no no for me, workload will almost kill you if you complain they will say its in your letter.

Writing offer letter as if you are going to a war zone

Microbiologist

or secretary , they should choose one .

Or is it a very new company?? @ OP

They said there will be salary increment after the six months probation. But I doubt that because in the job advert, they stated the salary range is 40-50k. We were upto 10 people that went for the interview, they choose me because I have 5 years experience and have attended some training with NAFDAC , so I insist they should raise the salary because I am the first person that will be working as a microbiologist in their firm. I am their to start everything from beginning, both working in Lab, developing all the documents needed by NAFDAC, etc. I think what they want to do is after I must have developed those documents, and placed SOPs on how each equipment is being used they will employ new person after six months to pay lesser salary and give me one excuse why they can't increase my salary
Well this is more like it, it sounded more like what a new organization will do, they want to use your brain to set everything up abi. They want to add the Job of the secretary to it that's not fair, I guess they intended to pay a secretary 10-20k so they are paying you the 60k for both jobs.

Just insist on the microbiologist job ALONE and do it for the 6months ( having in mind that after you set everything up they might let you go) and try to save up since you will be spending tfare on weekends only. They should type another offer letter for the microbiologist job alone

This kind job that will take a young married woman from her husband for 5 days in a week sef na wa.

I believe you don't live close by around ojo or something if you did you might be able to go and come daily.

Its well sis, hopefully they will respond well to your mail and modify it to microbiologist only.

This are terms and conditions attached to the work, the only problem is the 60 days notice as against 30 days that is recognised by Labour law in Nigeria.

maybe your marriage, trust respect or friendship
its not a healthy offer

Note, I applied for the post of microbiologist, and they plead with me to help them in doing little secretary work like receiving and sending email that they will get a new secretary within a short time. Now they have indicated in the offer letter that and taking two position just for 60k. Meanwhile this job required that I have to live in the factory quarters to go home on Friday evening. I am a married woman though still expecting to have children, I plead with them to give me one day off on Wednesdays they disagree. I want to turn down this offer, what is your candid advise?
This one is not an offer letter, this one is a bondage letter, e pass threat sef, na slavery and bondage join. Better decline the offer and find another better job with better terms. Imagine forfeiting 2 months salary if you don't give them 2 months notice. It simply means it is a type of company that intentionally delays payments of workers salary, the type that will owe you 1 month or 2 months salary and if you decide to leave, you lose your hard earned money. This offer letter already shows this company is a crook company. And they will tie down your progress in life. See their mouth like 2 months notice. So if you get a better job, you no fit go again. Which new employer will wait for you for 2 months after offering you job? Better read between the lines. Don't let desperation push you into evil jobs and regret. This kind of slavery and bondage job can only end in tears. You never start, dem don tell you say you go dey 2 jobs for the price of one. After you join, you will not only do microbiologist work and secretary to MD, later they will add PA to MD join, later dem go add MD bed warmer join, shey u be fine girl grin, u never sabi suntin. Mondays to Fridays but they can call you to work on any other day, if you don't come, penalty........ kikikiki, see slave trade descendants oh grin. I am speaking from experience I have done such horrible job before and it is always one exploitation after another. You go work on Sundays u go tire grin Don't think they are giving you accomodation to make thing easy for you. They are giving you accomodation so that it will be easy for them to exploit you completely. The new black slave for their plantation.

If you know how difficult it is these days to get a job with the current state of the country you'd manage that job.

Lots of companies are sacking, downsizing their staffs currently.
Those shouting better reject the job offer can they offer to get you another job?

Madam my one and only advice is to think about the health of your marriage first. Please and please, 60k is not worth risking your marriage for.

This is modern say slavery. All these conditions for mere 60k. Rubbish.

If you don't have any other job at hand start with this at least for the main time and utilize the weekends but if you have other options I suggest you leave this job

Reject the offer,makes no sense.

For N60k?

If a job would take your time, it should be able to pay for it.

And jobs like this don't make you grow or switch because you are stuck grinding at the wheel all day long.

Besides, as a microbiologist, you want a specific job and not jumping from the lab to the Chairman's desk and back.

I dont think it's a good offer. It has so many hidden things which needs a sharp sighter to note it.

Are you aware that they will not pay for the first 6 months? They know that you will get tired and wish to opt out, that's why they said they will deduct 2 months salary if you don't inform the management who will try to cajole you to stay.

You can be told to work on Saturdays and Sundays. They will change it for you soon.
The more you look, the less you see.

Infact their way no pure.

Please reject this Offer. I am an HR person and trust me, you will suffer if you accept this. Head Microbiologist for 60k? Look at the tone of the letter! And what do they mean by 6 month probation? 6 Freaking month!!! Just for probation!
Likely without pay during that 6 months o. shocked
It's bad enough even if they intend on paying it after the 6 months and who says they will even pay?
