A battery can be defined as a portable power source. Batteries these days are mostly rechargeable (thank you science). The idea behind rechargeable batteries is easy, it works through a reversible reaction. When you charge a battery, the anode (positive part) produces electrons, then when you use the battery, the electrons travel through the battery to the cathode and discharged out of the battery.

The two types of battery currently in use are both variants of lithium type batteries. The Lithium Ion or Li-on battery and the newer Lithium polymer or Li-Po battery. The Lithium Ion is more powerful but it’s also more unstable and ages faster. The Li-Polymer is more stable and lasts longer.

The amount of power a battery holds is called it’s capacity. It is rated in Milli amperes per hour. The standard size of batteries for Smartphones is 4000mAh. Although some companies can give more or less.

The life span of a battery is rated in charge cycles. When you charge a phone up to 100 and run it down to zero, you have completed 1 charge cycle. Most batteries have a life span of 500 charge cycles. After that, it begins to deteriorate.

Batteries deteriorate or go bad when they can no longer hold electrons or cannot produce enough electrons when being charged.

The amount of time that a battery can keep a screen on from 100% to 0% is called an SoT (Screen on Time). The SoT of your device is dependent on many many factors.

1. Display
This is the number battery killer in your Smartphone. The display no matter the type, drains battery, be it IPS LCD or Amoled. The higher the resolution of your display, the more battery it will drain. A 1080p display will take more battery than a 720p. If you use a high level of brightness, your battery will drain pretty quickly as well. Then the Refresh rate of the screen is also important. A 90hz or 120hz may feel good to use but it drains battery quicker than the standard 60hz we all use.

2. Network
Bad network is a another major battery killer. Sometimes you may feel your battery is bad or your phone is mad whereas it is the network. When the network is unstable, your phone starts searching for a better or firmer connection. The longer this continues, the more battery is drained. Using data connection as well is also another battery killer.

3. Bluetooth and WiFi
Ordinary, Bluetooth and WiFi are not battery killers but if they are left on for no reason as some people tend to do, they start searching for wetin no find them. This act of searching drains batteries.

4. Camera
Unlike the lame cameras of the past, modern cameras are wonderful feats of electronic engineering and use a lot of battery resources not just to take but to process pictures as well. GCAM users can relate. The more you use your camera, the more it drains battery.

5. Vibration and Sounds
These two are killers, assassins especially the vibrations. The louder the sound, the more battery you use. If you are the type that watch long movies with your phone, you can save battery by using a speaker via an aux cord.

6. Temperature
A hot weather is a bad bad condition for batteries. It actually leads to their quick deterioration. A very hot phone can explode or catch on fire. It is important to not use phones near flames or in the kitchen or even in very hot weather. Do not also use heavy apps while charging.

7. Apps and Usage pattern
All apps are not made equal. Some apps require more battery resources to process than others. Facebook and Instagram are huge battery killers. PUBG and PES are also assassin as well. Usage pattern involves how long you stay on your device. Some persons only pick their phones to answer calls while others have built a duplex in their phone. They sleep in it, eat in it and bathe in it. These people also move around with their chargers like necklace. The longer you stay on your device, the faster the battery will drain.

8. SoC
The processor used on your phone is ultra important. Always check the size upon which your SoC is built. It is measured in Nanometers. If you see a phone using an SoC like Spreadtrum with 32nm chipset, you just bought a pressing iron, a coal pot, electric cooker and water heater. A hot SoC will shorten your battery life. Also when the SoC gets hot, it limits it’s own performance like a tired footballer running slowly. This is called thermal throttling. This can be very frustrating.

The No 2 is Accurate ASF... Reason i dumped 9mobile... There is no 4G signal in my current location so sustaining the H+ signal on my phone takes alot of battery so it begins to heat up...

Fast charging technology is not for every battery. If your phone does not have the capability, dont use fast charger on your phone
