spyder880:I like the fact the ceiling is high, I did similar thing too, I had 3 level of block on the lintel before casting the decking slab, initially I thought it would be too high, that decision was due to mine countless accidental encounter with rotating ceiling fans ceilings when stretching ![]() 1 Like |

Nbg4real: Good morning, apart from staining the doors and windows, there is also the increased risk of breaking the window glass. I have also seen where keys or handles were broken or damaged. It is always better to conclude plastering before doors and windows, except it you want to move into the house before completing the plastering process. Better install the frames and doors at the same time. |

spyder880:I had thought about this a lot, again I notice majority of Nigerian builders/workmen are blind to neatness, you rarely find a Nigerian workmen that clean/clear his working environment on daily basis, they don't identify applying measures like taping off or covering items that could get stain. I think our lack of maintenance culture and disregard for properness is affecting our general behaviour toward things too hence Africans struggle where the opposite is the norms. 1 Like |

omanzo02:that's an unfounded claim boss. Get a workman and tell him explicitly that you need zero stain on your door. He will charge you accordingly. Thing is that these people are paid poorly so they try to do everything in one day. |
Re: The Making Of The "Enugu Urban 5 Bedroom Duplex" by omanzo02: 9:16am On May 21, 2020 |
michlins: Wow! Delivering a job without messing other things up is a standard, If I am going to pay for not messing mine new door with cement I would NOT want to hire that person at all, this kind of mentality is the reason most Nigerians struggle outside their shore. Try it where the opposite is the norms I bet you won't be returning to your work post the next day. 1 Like |

omanzo02:you're not getting the point boss. Let's say there are five workmen at a site and while others were hustling to do ten doors a day you will be stuck with one or two because you are trying to do a clean job. This is Nigeria boss. See oga Spyder and the kind of work he does, it costs money. Premium job requires premium pay

michlins:I know Spyder has been doing a good jobs, probably he has cultivated proper work delivering in his workers. Workmen habit toward standard is what we are talking about.....the practical/apprenticeship training standard is so bad that Nigerian (Africans)workmen thinks dirt, stain, and filthy work surrounding is normal. Yeah! this is Nigeria but my kind of background in the same Nigeria does not tolerate such work habit. 1 Like |

omanzo02:and do you think his pay is normal? My point is this,if you want zero dirt on your doors, insist that you won't pay a dime should you find any. That same guy who did a dirty job will do a sparkling neat one for you. That's how it is 2 Likes |

michlins:Now we are talking, do you know that workman is supposed to know that sparkling neat job is what primarily requested of him? Probably I am trying to apply the mentality of where I am that you don't need to issue threats or exert pressure to get the best out of them or to deliver their best outcome |

omanzo02:unlike there, people are paid less than $10 per day here meanwhile that same amount is an hour pay there. Not only that, people actually value quality works over the cost of doing the job and they have the necessary tools which makes work easier 1 Like |

omanzo02: Some of the things needed for neat environment during construction are not available in Nigeria. For instance, before most constructions are started, the builders are required to hire a trailer driven Dumpster to the site where all trash would be dumped. The dumpster remains on site until it is full. Another thing they also use is a thick nylon bag they call Contractors-bag, this they use to gather all the trash before dumping them in the big dumpster. When the dumpster is full, a roll-off trailer comes to tow it away. This way, everywhere remains decent during construction and safety is maintained. They are also required to have a mobile toilet on site. Now, imagine the cost implication of all these in Nigeria, do you think most people would be willing to pay that extra cost? 2 Likes |

sonnie10: I don’t think the gentleman is actually talking about waste. Look at all the big mansions in Lekki and you would find the painter smearing the white paint for the wall on the black gate and brown cupboards . The artisans in Nigeria act very weird, pay them a billion and you will have the same shitty results. |
Re: The Making Of The "Enugu Urban 5 Bedroom Duplex" by omanzo02: 8:04pm On May 31, 2020 |
olaboy1:Exactly, most workmen/artisans in Nigeria don't have meticulous attitude, They don't use their common senses to schild things they can mess up off before embarking on their work, I have seen incidents where they mess window frames with cement, new tiles with paint etc. They are just after what they would earn for the day and mess what cost thousands or millions up without remorse. In picture below you can see the window is fully cover to protect it from damages or stains, it's a fundamental attitude of quality and services. 1 Like

Re: The Making Of The "Enugu Urban 5 Bedroom Duplex" by spyder880(m): 4:18pm On Jun 13, 2020 |
Nbg4real: I suggest you mount the door, or the frame if possible before doing your tiles. That way, the tilers can work to meet the door height and leave the appropriate gap needed for a good fit. 1 Like |
