redcliff:you are partially right.I was looking at it from an economic and development perspective. These guys know how important they are to us.they know we depend mostly on them for survival. Our leaders have refused to invest on the development of the country. As for the respect for ourselves, I have always talk about unity and love.for I know when Nigeria's are united we will conquer. Respect for individuals and respect for self is important to improve our image both home and away. |

crossfm:but thats the problem.. we can never be united because we are not the same people, we do not think the same and we are also not ready to reach compromises. |

redcliff:we can at list try to tolerate each other. We have diverse culture and personalities. But for me tolerance is the key.Restructuring is another thing that will help out.each region bring up idea's that is best for its region. |

crossfm:the bold is exactly what the problem is. But then again, you would ask yourself, are we the only multicultural nation in the world? the answer is no. In Switzerland, you have three(four technically) different set of languages (Italian, French, Germans and "Romantsch" with people almost having different ways of life when you move across regions. Do they share some form of less positive sentiments towards each other? Yes! but its not on the level of national concern. In fact, except for the maybe the Italians who are in their own world, you would be accepted almost anywhere in the whole country if you speak at least one national language regardless of your region and language. How did they do this? they were able to be a country and not be a country. Every state has its own laws governing it even down to the local government. State laws supersede local laws most definitely but when there is none or no contradiction, the most grass-root law applies. Lets stop using the word restructuring to deceive ourselves. lets call it what is is. If we do not practice federalism to the atom of the word, we would always be what we are now and even worse. |

redcliff:your points are valid, but remember nation buildings is a gradual process. We need to try a lot of things to see how far it will take us. May I also remind you that Switzerland went through a lot before they got to where they are today. A lot of conflicts where recorded, ranging from religious to economic conflicts. Another factor why drawing comparison between Nigeria and Switzerland is wrong,is the years it took them to get to where they are.Switzerland was formed in 1291,while Nigeria became a republic in 1963.From 1291 to 1848 Switzerland recorded a lot of domestic conflicts. In fact, the peace Switzerland is experiencing now can be argued to start from the 19th century. Just look at the time it took them to evolve into what they are today.so we need to try out something's to know how viable it is to the development of our country. |

Gerrard59:I understand your sentiment but we easily give up in this country. I don't know about others but Indians are the most fearful people in this country. Those who know that code easily use it against them. And who tell you they can't harass them? They pay a lot of bribes to government agencies, that's why they easily chicken out when you demand for your entitlement, they know if you raise an alarm they may ended up paying more in bribes. What they dread the most is litigation, they know that could easily open a can of worms. |

Dcoy:I still don't know what gave those horrible creatures the temerity to treat Nigerians anyhow in this country and that it what we should tackle. |

crossfm:the good thing about these current times is that we do not have to be creators anymore. copying is good enough. if we apply the progress of these countries who have gotten it right based on time and say we would get there, the point is we would never get there because we would always see outselves as underachieved and always less progressive. look at china today. they got to thos point they are now by copying europe and america. lets copy working systems and if possible modify a bit to suit our environment. we dont need to think anymore. they have done it for us centuries ago. |

redcliff:You really cracked me up on the thinking aspect. This takes us back to why I made mention of restructuring. Each region will embrace its strength, put on a thinking cap and come up with a way to move its region ahead and the country at large. We have been glamouring for this for a very long time, let's try it and see.you will be amazed how some regions which we thought will not do well will surprise us. |
