Melanin is a chemical. It is worth over $395 a gram more than gold at the present. When it was first revealed melanin had a dollar value in 2014 melanin was worth $353 a gram. That was only $350 a gram more than gold. In the last six years the dollar value of melanin has increased to $445 a gram. Melanin is worth more than gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium and coltan combined. That makes people who bleach their skin at odds with the trend worldwide. Although the melanin being sold comes from the ink of sepia officinalis, the common cuttlefish, it is chemically the same substance.
