Why Makinde Should Not Re-contest For Governorship Election In 2023. by Shollyjay90(op): 2:43pm On Jun 30, 2020
Governor Seyi Makinde a philanthropist before he became the Governor of Oyo state has enjoyed enough popularity among the people of Oyo State. I'm going to list various reasons why I think he should not re-contest in 2023.
1. Pre - election philanthropic works

Before he came to power in 2019, he was involved in a lot of philanthropic works like, giving bursary to students, Financial Support to widows, Various students scholarship, Sponsorship of people to prigrimage and a lot of philanthropic works.

But since the Governor assumed power in 2019, he has reduced all these to the bearest minimum and that's why people started asking questions, Was Makinde using his philanthropic works to seek favor from the people during election.

Don't misquote me, I love Seyi Makinde, I even voted for him in 2019, but I'm beginning to have concern about his former philanthropic works if they were all meant to win election.

2. The look of Ibadan

During the former Governor era, Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, he worked so hard to change the look of Ibadan in his first tenure, he demolished every shops and houses that block the peace of the city, he should be rightly regarded as the architect of new Oyo State.

He transformed Ibadan to a large extent, even Ibadan changed its name from the dirtiest city to the cleanest city.

But the opposite is the case now, markets are jam-packed, you see a lot of Mayhem on the road, people no longer maintained peace and order, I think the Governor is too quiet to take actions like his predecessor.

3. Inability to enforce order; Makinde lacks the capacity to maintain order in the State, during this pandemic, the Government made an order that every citizen should use face mask especially in the crowded places like market and all other places, but people don't adhere to this , you see the market so crowdy even without them using nose mask, then you begin to ask yourself if there is any Government to instill fear and discipline among the people.

4. Insecurities ; Though he has been applauded for buying cars for the police commission in the State but has that solved the issue of insecurities in the State.

As we all know that Ibadan is full of touts and thugs especially in places like Beere, Oja ba, Born Photo, Gate, Iwo road and some other popular places in the city.

I'm not trying to compare Makinde Government with his predecessor, but we need to raise our voices when we see that things are not working the way it should be.

One of the successful work of Late Abiola Ajimobi was in the area of security, he was able to tame all the touts and thugs in the State through Operation Burst.

5. Handling of Covid-19 pandemic ; To say the truth, the Governor has been handling the. Case of Covid-19 in the state professionally, when the pandemic started he was under pressure to close down the state, but he didn't bow to pressure, he made sure he was able to manage the pandemic well.

But in recent times, the rate at which covid-19 is increasing is very alarming even though the state has maintained that this happened due to increase in the testing centers in the State.

But the inability of the Government to enforce order in the state can make the state to be the highest state with covid-19 cases in the country very soon, people moved freely the way they like, the Government opened religious center, and all business is still as usual, Makinde needs to take the Bull by the horn and man up to take charge of his Government, unless people will speak through their vote again in 2023.

Let's me know about your opinion in the comments section.

Thank you my brother, I don't know you observe the myopic view of the writer. If he is advising Makinde who is young, agile and hardworking then I guess we should advise that Fulani man to engage the service of the pall bearers.

Lam? Popular? Are u sure that you’re from Oyo state? Lam that oyo people were fed up with.

Ladoja couldn’t be re-elected because he wasn’t on the ballot. PDP denied him ticket in 2007 due to internal conflicts and he didn’t seek another party’s ticket.

Hahahahahaha. Ajimobi family should goan siddown. Makinde will be re-elected just for the simple act of denying their level of greed. Is it only them that will vote on behalf of the people of Oyo? When those people don’t even regard them as anything.

Didn’t Penkelemesi lose because of their fathers wickedness and inadequacy? We have not forgotten. Rest abeg. You people will now see what it means to not have political power. Those deceiving you will run away in 2 weeks and refuse to pick calls. Even so called godfathers.
