It's nice that you believe me, from my interaction with African Americans, they seem to hate Africans, think of them as less, and use them as a convinient way to make themselves more proud, for example in the "Black is king" movie, Beyonce was never in Africa, Disney+ is not in Africa, but she is still making money and making false assumptions about Africa. Of course that doesn't mean every African American is like this but this was most of my interactions with them. What do you think?

I am not one to dismiss your personal experiences. I will never do that but I'd like to posit that I do not belive number of African Americans (which I assume is less than 100) that you have interacted with do not represent the larger population. Infact, in my experience, I have found them the most curious, willing to learn (about Africa) set of people that I have met.

I am presently doing my PhD at UMD and a large majority of my interactions with AAs have been nothing short of embracing and intriguing. Infact, I feel like they overrate my knowledge of Africa because they call or meet with me for clarifications at the slightest hurdle about Africa that they face.

Again I am not one to dismiss your personal experiences with African Americans but I judge people (African, European, American or Asian) based on individual interactions with them and never resort to generalizations as they tend to limit you in the long run.

So I am sorry that your experiences with our brothers and sisters in America hasn't been pleasant so far but I urge you to give every individual you meet a chance and I can assure you that you will find out that there are much more loving African Americans than there are the assholes.

It will be unfair if I call all Ethiopian or Somalian Americans refugees becuase a large number of them migrated to North America as refugees.

Brother Ethiopians are not refugees, but I understood your point.

Yeah it was pretty obvious, what do you think about the problems of the African American community? Like crime, bad culture etc. Do you think it's changing for the better?
Same problem being experienced by native Americans and native Australians. Years of racism and suppression. Things only started getting better for them some few years ago.
Now they are have started to excel. Access to education and breaking of barriers previously put in place would start changing the narrative. A lot of educated ones have started making progress in the academia, business, Engineering, health sectors e.t.c. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Don't mind them. They hate Jews and Igbos. Igbos are also Jews. You have to support Biafra and raise awareness in Israel.

Did I ever mention that any country was a saint. Can you point out where I said that?

You obviously missed the discussion on stereotyping. A Nigerian would easily get stereotyped just as an African American easily gets stereotyped too. The stereotypes could be good or bad and comes in different forms. Nigeria is regarded as the poverty capital of the world by some. India is regarded as rape capital of the world by others. Indians are believed to be IT gurus by some. Chinese/Koreans are believed to be smart in academics by White Americans e.t.c.

Even within Nigeria, Yorubas are believed by some to be the major brain behind yahoo just as some believe Igbos to be the major brain behind drug smuggling and Hausa/Fulani are believe to be Islamic fanatics, Benin girls are believed by some to be prostitutes e.t.c

All these are just stereotypes that we need to break.

...and, do you think that since African Americans hate Nigerians because Nigerians have bad reputation in the world that this makes African Americans rather stupid people, perhaps so stupid that this stupidity justifies the Bell Curve conclusions?

I don’t see anything wrong in what Beyoncé is doing. She has African ancestry, she has African blood and African hair and African looks. So what, she wants to romanticise about Africa, I’m African and heck even I romanticise our culture, our diversity, our art, music, beautifully bright colours and textiles, our slangs, dances, poetry etc it’s normal to romanticise about Africa because in this part of the world, reality is a bit unkind.

In that part of the world no matter how rich or well to do you are, you are still a nigger even tho you have been Americans for centuries and generations so what better escape than to romanticise the motherland huh.

As far as Disney goes, it’s about time they feature Africa more, and not just highlight the animals and beasts in Africa but the people of Africa.

But I think that it gives Americans wrong assumptions about Africa, we have so many cultures and what she is trying to do is wrong in my idea, Africans and to be more specific West Africans have kings and queens but just like in any other part of the world, I think that making false history and is insulting to actual African cultures is a "crime" especially in America where the average guy is pretty dumb when it comes to other people who are not American.

And if she tried to show the real history or the real life etc of people in the region I would be for it but it's a pure fantasy that will give the wrong assumptions to people. Just like Wakanda.

You posted the map, I reckon you can read but you still fail to see that no part of the south east or biafraland was ever referred to as the kingdom of Judah. Ouidah, or whydah is modern day benin, the part referred to has the kingdom of Judah is in the Southwest, not remotely close to the southeast.

What southeast had was long juju aro cave, I assume you are an historian, you should know all about it.

I am not bragging, but with my high level of education (3 STEM university degrees from Nigeria, UK and Canada), my foreign travels, having worked in some of the world biggest companies in and outside Nigeria, level of exposure, I would say I am highly enlightened and would talk on my experience.

1. Nigerians have bad reputation is common knowledge. When I fly outside traveling the world. I never use my Nigerian passport. The last time I used it was in Paris CDG, and I was set aside to be frisked and subject to many stupid questions by the French gendarmes. It was just a local flight from Paris to Manchester. Since then I only fly with my other passport.

Nigerians have bad reputations cos of scamming and drugs. Thanks to the yahoo boys and drug pushers. Invictus Obi and Hush puppy still fresh in people's mind.

African American just like first nation, aboriginals in Canada and Australia are angry at the system that has suppressed them for years. If people don't have opportunities to further their education or their chances to better in life is suppressed due to racism and systemic oppressions, they would move to crime since they need to feed. Check Nigeria with it's high rate of crime and vices. Nigeria is even often referred to as the poverty capital of the world. Same poverty can be found in ghettos in the Americas. Guess where alot of criminals come from in Nigeria and the USA: Ghettos.
But once you take a Blackman or any man for that matter out of the ghetto, get them college educated, then you start seeing a difference in their lives and those of their families.

2. I do not think African Americans hate Nigerians. 1 or 2 examples can't be used to judge everyone. My friends are married to Afro Americans. They all met at universities. They have happy families. However, just as Whites and Asians, some African Americans would be careful in dealing with Nigerians becuase of what they have seen and heard on the media. Alot of people have received an email from Nigerian princes more than once or twice. I have picked up several random scam letters faxed to my office in America originating from Nigeria. All foreigners are just being careful. Just as there are stupid African Americans, there are also stupid Africans and stupid White Americans or Asians too. When I was at Uni both in the UK and Canada, the dullest students in the class were usually Whites. Does that mean all whites are dull? The bell curve or poisson curve or whatever other race-intelligence curve was created by a whiteman. Since Africa is a shyte hole as mentioned by Trump, do you not think the bell curve conclusion created by a whiteman should apply much more as a blanket to the whole of sub-saharan (Black) Africa too? If Hitler had his way, I do not think our blackness would matter. Sub Sahara Africa would likely have been turned to a wildlife Safari and just good for only mining natural resources.

Let's even digress for a minute. Let's forget about African Americans. Most of them have European DNAs anyway from years of rapes and interracial mixing on the plantation fields anyway. Let's take a look at Nigeria. Do you think the tribes in Nigeria are united? On Nairaland here, the Igbos are always cursing out the Yorubas and vice versa. Same for the Fulani/Hausas/Kanuri vs Igbo vs Yoruba. Continent wide, why do some Ghanaians or South African Bantus hate Nigerians? I think Nigeria (the most populous black country in the world) should gets it's act together first i.e. remove the speck in your own eyes before thinking of removing that of your brother..

Was Game of Thrones a realistic show? No but it’s entertainment. African Americans already have wrong assumptions about Africa, they think the whole of Africa is starving with flies flying all around our faces. At least Beyoncé is trying to depict and reinforce more positive images.

If you don’t think a lot of west Africans are kings and queens come to the south west of Nigeria where every town or village or settlement has a king/ruler. It’s part of our culture, every black man sees himself as a king, every black woman, sees herself as a queen, even if they are starving, that’s just our swag, our resolve. I commend Beyoncé for her efforts to connect with her roots. Wish other African Americans and everybody in the diaspora would do the same.

Look the news and every other white media already do their part in painting Africa in a bad light, all in the name of being realistic, Disney is not a reality show based media, most of its works is in the fantasy category, please allow Disney to entertain us with fantasies about Africa for a change, about time we had our own version of frozen.

Brother you are underestimating the power of American media, look at Hollywood, you have no idea how many people in America take them seriously. About the every Black man is king and Black woman Queen I am not sure, at least in Ethiopia it's not like this but I wasn't born there so I don't know. I still think Beyonce is wrong and she is doing bad for Africa. Also about the "white media", I don't think it's connected to whites, I think it's because during the 20th century there were many wars, coups, and sadly famines in Africa and back then it was real , now ofc it's not like this. But it's easier to sell things when they are already familiar to the costumer. That is why the media paints Africa like this, although it's changing, I have seen more and more positive new coverage about Africa, also with the Internet and people becoming more connected the myth of Africa being ALL poor can be broken simply by watching some Youtube videos. So creating a misleading and false movie is not necessary, as Africa develops it has more and more Internet users that will show the truth, and ofc with development means more wealth and more traveling etc which will make Africa better known for it's good.

But if this is what you believe brother I still respect you.

How can a movie about Africa be a false movie, that doesn’t make any sense. It’s entertainment, it doesn’t claim to be a documentary about Africa. It’s a celebration of our culture, as a matter of fact we need more of it.

I respect your differing opinion as well, I just don’t agree with it, which is fine, that’s what makes us diverse as Africans.
