Funny one,
You think all ranking starts and end with railway abi? grin grin

Why do u wanna compare yourself with a big boy (TZ)??

By the way, let's see your railway first. How many kilometers in total you have? How many are SGR? How many are electrified?

Yes, it interesting. I don't know if you can formalize by "force" or by nature? Kagame is trying to formalize by degree - even boda boda are now under heavy regulation including trip meters.
Justnotyou:

Not a well thought out decision unless it was to simply discourage economic migrants from neighbouring countries. He needs to setup some major hypermarket chains & a matured delivery system to turn those hawkers into suppliers to fill up the gap. Hopefully it's only going to target Kigali.

Sorry I don't think any country is growing this year. Can you find a more authoritative of IMF GDP PPP projection - say in the IMF April World economic outlook
vankelvin:

Check the positions.
Where Ghana placed 3 years ago and where they estimate Ghana to be this year.

That's where folks get it wrong. TZ became middle income ages ago! And mind you,we are yet to formalize the economy. TZ is second behind Ethiopia on the number of cattles in Africa. There are much much cash in TZ that's why Dar es salaam eons ahead of many cities in Africa.

Waaw,
COVID19 only happened in Ghana I guess?
But you are right, your country has perform so abysmal when it comes to the management of Covid19.
Testing is an issue, Health facilities have not seen any better improvement, not much has been done by your Government to help the Citizens recover their losses so you right when you say Ghana cannot meet its targets.
because Government is giving
3 months free water and Electricity,
50% pay increase to all health Workers and taxes canceled from their pay as well,
Interest free loans to companies ETC

Justnotyou:

I think you mean the progress/leap Ghana was going to make. Sadly covid-19 happened, relaxation of revenue collection, free electricity & other services affected, including logistics. 2020 is indeed an interesting year for economists.

We'll see how well it reflects in their growth, surely rural-urban migrations, slums & maybe tax compliance within Kigali would be significantly impacted.

THE BANTU MIGRATION FAIRY TALE FROM S NAIJ/CAMEROON VIA CONGO,FINALLY DEBUNKED 1!

The Learning Process never stop! Today we debunk once and for all the Bantu Migration fairy tale. Fyi,it was a colonial historiographer,US linguist,Joseph Greenberg who first came up with the theory. He's the same who invented the Afro-Asiatic language family to separate Kushites and Chadic speakers from Africa by pretending they're foreign immigrants. His theory goes Bantus, the majority of the African population, had nothing to do with any of the accepted cultures and civilizations in Egypt,Meroe,Napata,Kush,Axum and rusticated in the Cameroonian jungles until iron was invented around 2000 bc. The more adventurous Bantu then began crossing the massive impenetrable forest in 'small groups' over millennia until the continent was settled.

People still believe this ishyt and I'm putting a stop to it! The funny thing is Bantu migration stories have knowing to do with Cameroon or a Congo journey. Jan Vansina,a true researcher never believed in the Congo migration. His CV glitters with accomplishments!

Vansina was first trained as a medievalist and ethnographer but became known as one of the most prominent Africanist scholars. In his work, he focused on the history of African societies prior to European contact, and is widely regarded as the foremost authority on the history of the peoples of Central Africa. He published widely on the subject, including a landmark text on the factual interpretation oral history. On Vansina, historian David Beach writes, "In 1985, Jan Vansina's Oral Tradition as History provided a worldwide theoretical framework on oral tradition that rendered nearly all of its predecessors obsolete."[2]

Vansina obtained his doctorate in history from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1957. After his retirement in 1994,[3] he became a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and lived in Madison, Wisconsin. Vansina died of lung cancer in Madison.[3]

Vansina assisted Alex Haley (the author of the 1976 novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family) in deciphering several African words that had been handed down from Haley's ancestors, determining that they were of Mandinka origin.[4][5]

Almost all the Bantu people living in Kenya speak of a migration from up North. The people of Marachi location are known to have come from Elgon although other clans of the same group came from Egypt. They came in canoes on the River Nile as far as Juja, Uganda and later moved eastward into lake Victoria. They changed course until Asembo and separated with the Luo who walked along the lake shore but the rest crossed into South Nyanza. They then turned northwards and reached Butere and then moved on to Luanda and to Ekhomo. The Luo people were behind them right from Egypt.

The people of Samia location came from Egypt on foot. The Abakhekhe clan too originated from Egypt on foot. The Abachoni clan originally came from Egypt on foot. The people of Bukusu originally came from Egypt in canoes.

I rmbr we had a Luhyia poster,NairobiWalker who said as much.

Other sources report that the following Bantu people, the Luhya, Baganda, Nyarwanda, Rundi of Burindi, Kikuyu, and the Zulu all claim a southerly migration from Egypt. Moreover there are many groups of Bantu speakers from Tanzania, Mozambique, Congo, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, who testify a southerly migration from Egypt. There are even groups of people from West Africa who migrated from Egypt into their present day location.

Apart from the oral traditions provided by Bantu elders, the evidence is also based on linguistic, historical, scientific and cultural studies done by Cheikh Anta Diop.

The following maps are taken from Alfred M M'Imanyara 'The Restatement of Bantu Origin and Meru History' published by Longman Kenya, ISBN 9966 49 832 x

You're quick to respond. Am not trying to belittle Ghanas progress but one still has to be sincere, do you seriously believe you'll grow by that much with the year being halfway done already?

not only for Ghana, so when you get it that way, you will know its possible even-though we will not be able to meet our projected targets same for every Country.

According to Jan some Luo clans were assimilated by bantu groups which would be correct, she doesn't contradict or oppose the origin of bantus as a whole. It's also no secret bantus weren't & still aren't endogormous, intermarriages are culturally accepted.

Lets wait for second-quarter economics figures

First quarter economic figures was strong at 4.9%
If second quarter figures come with a 3% growth despite the lockdown, then Ghana's economy might end up growing at 4-5% this year.

Mkenya2019:
The present day currencies are paper money. It's fiat money. It's no longer backed by gold reserves. It has no intrinsic value.
So a country can wake up and decide to print the "strongest" currency in the world - say 1000 dollar to 1cedis.
You give them like a few years - and that currency will be 1 dollar to 1000 cedis - if they allow it to operate in free exchange.
They can even go ahead - and forever peg it to a dollar - but that would require defending the currency against inflationary forces using forex reserves.

The cedis outside Ghana is useless. Worthless. What works outside our borders are global currencies - USD (the king), Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, maybe Japanese Yens and now the Yuan.

So for you to import anything - you'll need to buy dollars or any other global currency accepted. For you to fly abroad for education or medical need - you'll need to convert to dollars. For you (gov, individuals, companies) to repay international loans - you buy dollars.

So naturally the cedis will weaken - unless you're China or Saudi or Japans - with trillion dollars of forex reserve - and you can make your currency strong internally by keeping it weak internationally. This makes their stuff very cheap to import - leading to more forex - feeding the loop.

For the rest of us - if you try to defend your currency with your little forex reserves - you won't last long.

Maybe you can survive with your own rules if you live in Central Africa - with very little in international trade and business.

Therefore what is important for economy is A STABLE CURRENCY - this is part of the predictable environment that foster economic growth and sustainable development.

A stable currency is a currency that doesn't swing so much. A currency that stores values. Nobody want to wake up tomorrow like a zimbwean to find they now need 10 times the currency to buy a loaf of bread.

So you need a stable currency that doesn't depreciate or appreciate so fast against global currencies. Otherwise it will lead to inflation - price increases - will drive away investors - will generally lead to poverty.

The weakest africa currencies the last 60-70yrs without doubt is anything named Zimbwabwe, anything named KWACHA and anything named CEDIS.

This kind of negative feedback loop that plagues the CEDIS is hard to get out of - because many Ghanians and foreigners don't trust the cedis - so the economy become dollarized - people prefer to open dollar accounts - or to convert their cedis as quickly as possible to dollars - and try to store value. This leads to dollar strengthening...more dollar demands...more forex reserves are depleted. This weaken the cedis more.

Getting out of that rat hole is very very difficult. You should see Zimbwabweans now. It about getting people to trust PAPER MONEY.
