Good one OP! Beautiful palace, the pride of the East. A place of culture and tradition.

Terms to note:

1. Ime Obi (Palace)
Obi is the general name for family courtyard in Igboland. And this is where the Obi’s get their title from.

2. Ilo Eze
Public ground of Kings

3. Onu Ilo Eze
Mouth or Entrance to the ground of Kings

4. Ndi Onicha
The people of Onicha

5. Igwe
It means the sky is greater than the land. Igwekala. It is also the title of the King.

6. Eze
A ruler or head. Primarily, every ruler in Igboland goes by this name.

7. Nze na Ozo
An Aristocratic social cum religious grouping in Igboland. Membership is by initiation.

8. Ofo
Usually given from Father to son. An Ofo title holder is the head of his house or village. He can also goes by the name Eze or Diokpa, depending on how large a family he heads.

9. Ichie or Ndichie
Elders of the land. Majority comprising the Ofo holders and the Nze na Ozo society.

10. Diokpa / Okpara / Okpara Ukwu
The most senior man in his house.

11. Okenye
An old man

12. Agadi Nwanyi
An old woman

13. Ada
The eldest daughter of her fathers house

14. Umuada
A grouping or union of married daughters from a particular village. They are respected and adored.

15. Nwadiana / Nwa nwa
The name called a person or child in his mother’s village.

16. Age grade
Groupings of same age.

17. Oko / Okoro
A man

18. Nwanyi
A woman

19. Mazi
Of Aro origin. It means Mister

20. Oriaku
The wife of a Mazi. One who comes to enjoy wealth. In English Mrs would be the preferred meaning.

21. Okorobia / Nwoko
A young man

22. Agbobia / Nwagbobia
A young woman.

23. Ogaranya
A rich man

22. Ogbakor
A communal gathering

23. Nzuko
A gathering

24. Ilo/Amaocha
The central gathering of the people. A much bigger Obi.

24. Ama
The frontal entrance of a family compound.

The Obi did not build the house. Built by the entire Onitsha indigenes. That place does not belong to him. He does not live their. It is for official duties only.
