See below, what I wrote way back in March.
(The link above takes you straight to it)

REMEMBER: At the time I posted this not a single home-based had died in Nigeria while hundreds a day were dying in NYC. Yet Lagos had first confirmed case about a week before NYC.

Thanks.
Lock down is obviously the right policy or ALL the world will not be doing it.

Not true. US and Europe are not “ALL the world”. Some countries have hardly any covid

It's right for countries that know what they're doing. Nigeria isn't one of them. I read somewhere that an effective 2months+ lockdown will go a very long way of curbing the spread but from what we've seen globally I don't think it's sustainable anymore, socially, economically and politically as we've seen in some countries. So yes I believe in lockdown to some extent but whatever grin

80% of the world practically went on lockdown. It might not be the reigning thing again but it did its job for some countries.
The way I see the covid data reporting is partly 'we can tell the world whatever we want' but that's another thing entirely. Countries that hardly have it now have clearly worked to break local transmission and luck may or may not have played a part.

You mean.. US and Europe and China and Russia and Japan and Korea and Australia and Canada, and Ghana and SA etc. All are into lock down. Why must Nigeria be different

If u r being sincere and honest you’d admit I was right: 1) For whatever reason CVOVID-19 has very low death rate in Nigeria 2) The death and hospitalization rates are not high enough to warrant a lockdown of any kind.
3) Even if we totally ignore COVID (which I am not advocating) we’d emerge a younger and healthier country with a more vibrant economy.

Yes, lockdown did it’s job for some countries but not Nigeria. It is like shutting down the country because of malaria. In Nigeria death rate of people 40 and under is practically zero

Because Nigeria’s death and hospitalization rates from COVID19 are EXTREMELY LOW! It is practically zero for people under 40. Also Nigeria is overpopulated with very high birth rate. Even if we totally ignore COVID (which I am not advocating) we’d emerge a younger and healthier country with a more vibrant economy.

Well since ncdc and MoH have failed in providing data concerning your no.1 and 2. I'll be inclined to agree but I still don't see what makes us special to covid. Maybe cos a large number of infected people are of the younger populace but that doesn't limit the eventual transmission to more vulnerable people.

OP, your views were prescient enough. This whole lockdown sh!t was completely unnecessary in Nigeria. The obvious motive behind it was that, US and Europe were locking down and Nigeria must copy so we don't feel "odd". Like Poland and Sweden, we could have gone about our normal lives without the virus blowing out of place.

Thank you!
It was all just copy copy without looking at your own particular situation and formulating a solution peculiar to it!

Exactly! It'd have been better shutting our borders to prevent cases from other countries coming here. Shutting down the entire country wasn't smart enough.

Couldn’t have said it better.
We shouted ourselves hoarse trying to get FG to shut down the airports. Not only did they refuse, they wouldn’t even institute mandatory quarantine for people from then hot zones like China!
