In a sane country, by now Adamu Adamu the said minister of Education should have been sacked.

His statement alone and arrogance associated with the statement shows how incompetent the man is..

Secondly it shows there is no synergy between him and his counterpart minister of state for education who has been spearheading the educational issues since this Covid-19

He is just power drunk or feel not consulted in certain decisions while totally dormant to same issues
I concur.

Abeg. Let all the waec students be promoted to to high institution. Let university finalists be cleared as well. We that are yet to go for our nysc should be granted certificate of nysc as ell. I'm saying this because the virus has disintegrated everything and turned everything upside down. So let them start promoting everyone as ell. I'm sure that Adamu Adamu has no certificate which depicts he doesn't know what the effect of one losing an academic year. Ndi awusa

What's the point of writing Waec when they will not resume school this year?
At least, they will know they have written it and focus on higher institution admission.

If reopening schools go south, can those agitating for reopening bring back lives, can they even fund the healthcare bills of those that may be affected?
but opening of markets will not go south

So far as Nigeria can not do the China type of effective lockdown, the children should be allowed to write the exams.

I used to support complete lockdown, but obviously, Nigeria doesn't have the capability to do it.
Re: WASSCE: Call Meeting Of West African Nations, WAEC – Afenifere Tells FG by wink2015(m):
The Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Thursday advised the federal government to urgently call a meeting of West African countries, and the regional examination body, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), over the impasse on 2020 West African Senior School Certification Examination (WASSCE).

The group said instead of denying the students a complete session, the examination can be managed in a way that the health of the students would not be compromised.

National Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin spoke against the backdrop of the decision of the federal government to reverse the reopening of schools.

It would be recalled that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, had announced the reopening of schools for students preparing for primary 6, JSS 3 and SSS 3 examinations. On the basis of the announcement, the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, on Monday, announced that the WASSCE would hold from August 3 to September 5.

But on Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Mall. Adamu Adamu issued a counter directive, saying schools would no longer reopen and that the WASSCE could not hold for now. But Afenifere was furious that the counter directive by the education minister was “yet another reason to know that we are burdened with a disintegrated government in Nigeria.”

Afenifere said since August 3 is still a bit far, “Nigeria should call a meeting of the West African countries involved and WAEC to manage the examinations in the interest of the students without compromising their health. “This is how the government should run to show it cares for the public.

The way our officials conduct themselves is becoming just too shameful. “We advise Mr President to manage his men so that our students are not made to lose a session to the ego fights of our officials,” Odumakin said in the statement. Afenifere stated that it was not comprehensible

“That the PTF would go and announce that schools should go and resume without consultation with the ministry of education, and that the minister will come on TV and be stamping his feet ‘nobody will tell us when we are to open until we are ready,’ if we have an integrated government.

NORTHERNERS DO NOT VALUE EDUCATION AS MUCH AS THE SOUTH.

Presently, we have a government that is lopsided in appointments with too many policy makers coming from the north were education is undervalued.

Some of this big men have even sent their children abroad so they are never bothered.

Whether Coronavirus outbreak or not, education has not been on the top priority in the northern part of Nigeria.

Many countries especially in europe and asia have found their way out of the Coronavirus pandemic and learning to live with it by doing what they were doing before the pandemic but with a different approach while observing the safety guidelines by the world health organization.

It is only in Nigeria Politicians and policy makers turn everything upside down.

BUHARI IS NOT ACADEMICALLY SOUND SO ANYTHING HIS MINISTERS TELLS HIM HE PUT IN PLACE.

My take is that they should allow the schools to resume while ensuring that schools and students comply with all health guidelines as given by the world health organization.

Politicians are ready to approve elections but they put schools under lock for months due to covid 19.

Inspectors can be organized to go from schools to schools to check if the school administrators are complying with the guidelines.

Why are Nigerians not aware that Minister of Education Adamu Adamu has been out of this country for a very long time on his sick bed in Germany. That was why the Perm Sec of that ministry has been signing statements, and the Minister of State has been acting very cautious. That was why Adamu Adamu was not at Abba Kyari grave side. This scam of a govt kept the info because we as people are too dull to know and ask questions. Adamu Adamu only just returned to Nigeria recently.

If corona virus continue till the next 10 years, are the schools continue to close down?

If states elections is to hold this year which is a must, why can't our government authorize things to be put together for safety, or have they embezzled all the billions to themselves?

From my own point of view, this virus has been in existence before it was discovered. The only way out is to take proactive measures to control it but not locking down schools.

I totally agree with you. I am not directly affected financially, but I totally sympathize with thousands affected directly. The virus is likely going to be around for some time. What assurance do we have of there being a solution by next year. All we need is a protocol on conducting the exam in a safe way

That Adamu Adamu is the most useless, stupid, inefficient and ineffective minister I have seen in my entire life, since the beginning of the pandemic he has been quiet, the minister for state Education has been the only one given out information concerning resumption of schools, only for idiot to come on announced that the exam won't hold again. The whole school is not open for now, so I believe they should be able to manage the situation rather than cancellation. We just have around 20k active cases, when we get to 200k cases what will happen then??

A sound educationist right from the onset of the covid-19 resulting to closure of schools, the ministry of education by now should have drawn and concluded a road map to re-opening of schools but what do you have here bunch of docile old men who knows nothing about Education.

You can conduct election, go for campaign, approve direct primary for elections but couldn't come up with a plan for just the younger generation about to write their first standard exam...

sometimes I just wondered if this country is moving forward @ll. That Adamu is just a dollard, he should be replaced with the minister for state Education.

It seems you don't know the degree or extent of the damage this will cause if exams are not written. The exams is meant for this year. Students paid money to write exams this year. That is an agreement. If its not written and other countries write their own, where will students get another money to write exam again for next year? Money paid for this year can't be carried over.

THERE IS NO MORAL JUSTIFICATION THAT SCHOOLS SHOULDN'T RESUME

Throughout yesterday I have been lost in words, I have been wondering and looking for a single reason why schools shouldn't resumed as proposed by the PTF, yet I found non.

Our markets, churches and other public places are open, yet schools aren't open, that's really ridiculous. The questions are:

Aren't these children that u claim to be protecting the ones Hawking in markets and roads, won't they contact it there?

Aren't these children the ones going for public outings, won't they get it there too??

Why should Education be the least thing to be considered??. Why can't they shift the programs maybe Morning classes, afternoon classes and evening classes??

The worst of all these is that many youths are shamelessly defending this unholy act by these old uneducated ugly fools. Hmmmm, there is serious problem somewhere.
Indeed non of our leaders have our interest and interest of our generation at heart.
Could this be Boko Haram agenda( closure of Western education) coming into play??

Hmmm, I laugh in Latin. So children walking about in the streets and involving in social vises and domestic abuses is the best choice right??. The worst is that these people saying these, their children are abroad studying and graduating yet they aren't making any provision for our students here in Nigeria. I weep for my nation Nigeria.

At first, I said that it maybe due to interstate lockdown, but it's now that I realized that they are doing it on purpose which to distort the education system of our country whereas their children are abroad studying and graduating, heartless and hopeless people.

What is the big deal of providing buckets, handsanitizers, detergents and compulsory facemask for the students??
Must u close down schools to fight this disease??

For me, COVID-19 is not as deadly in Nigeria as they refer it. If it can kill only 600+ in 4months., then it's not that deadly compared to malaria, typhoid and other diseases disturbing us in this country. Malaria alone have kills upto a million in a year, so 600 is nothing compared to malaria.
I will stop at this, but it's high time we think and act as young people. NANS should do something abt it. All student bodies should do something abt it.

Schools closed in March. Originally, Waec was supposed to start in March ending. So to counter your point, syllabus should have been completed by then. If you are arguing on the basis of revision, some states have opened (Oyo state) and are revising.

If the precautionary measures are in place, same way they are now reopening airports and conduct elections, there's nothing bad in allowing the finalists write their exams. If they had told us they were not prepared for it, it's understandable. Hope you are aware that Cambridge Exams and other international exams would still hold this year and some of their ( the politicians) children were enrolled for this.

While all other categories of students would be home, there would be enough classrooms to guarantee social distancing and conducive environments to write the said exams as most classes would be empty during this period . A Mallam heading that ministry was an error in the first place because they do not value education. Their antecedents have shown. Those who valued education have said it all...they should write member countries who are prepared and tell them Nigerian government is the cause and NOT the pandemic. People have chosen to live the new normal way in spite of this. Why not suspend reopening of airport and elections too?
