How Or Where Can I Fix My Broken Laptop? by Nobody: 3:08pm On Jul 10, 2020
Good day readers,

I own an elitebook g2 and have been working with this particular system since mid last year. During this corona virus pandemic, I have been learning web development and python using free courses on edx and some valuable youtube videos. I even started my own web site project but unfortunately my pc crashed and couldn't boot at all.

I have visited computer village where I got the pc and paid for the repair service (the engineer said the bios chip was faulty). After the repair, I found out that one of my 4gb RAM stick isn't working again and my hard drive is faulty for no reason. I have been managing the 4gb ram and slightly faulty hard drive till last week when my pc shut down permanently without even booting at all though it (the pc) still charges phone when plugged into a usb port.

I just want to get a good referral for a pc engineer that can afford cheap and quality service as I can't afford to go through the stress of personal trouble shooting and bruhaha of computer village guys.

Any help will be appreciated.

Modified: I have finally fixed the system after trying out a few troubleshooting tips and I got a 120GB hard drive with windows 10 pro and MS office installation at ikeja for #3K.
So my system is finally functioning and I look forward to getting futher upgrades on my ram (4GB to 8/12GB) and ROM to 500GB HDD or 256GB SSD whenever I have the required funds.
Thank Y'll for you tips and solutions. GOD BLESS.

The system does not boot to windows or Does not boot at all?

Have you tried a HARD RESET?

There are good laptop engineers at Ikeja computer Village though its always better if you know anyone there to help you make enquiries.

It doesn't boot at all. Though it still charges my phone when connected to a usb port.
Do you know any reliable computer engineer based in ikeja or environs.

I don't know about hard reset, can you explain more about that?

Am not at Ikeja, Am at Ojo.

Unless you can visit Ojo alaba international, then I can direct you to an engineer.

Note... Its always better to look for a working replacement board than to keep spending money to fix a faulty laptop board.
Laptop engineers can get you a working replacement board.

Hard reset.... 1. Turn off your laptop and Disconnect all external devices if any, Unplug the charger from the laptop, Remove the battery.
With the battery and charger removed , press and hold the Power button for about 20 seconds or more then release the power button, it will help to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.

After that, connect charger and put the laptop on.
Most times the laptop will come back to life.

It DOESN'T work all the time.

Ok thanks man. I have done the hard reset, didn't work though.

I can make it to ojo in like two weeks time, currently not with reasonable cash at hand.

System boards, bios chips can not be fixed, if they try and fixed it, it will still develop faults later at some point. The only permanent and lasting solution is to change your whole motherboard, your laptop will feel brand new and work brand new, but it is costly. You will be discourage by the price tag that scrapping it and buying a new laptop, like someone suggested to you earlier will seems to pay you than changing the former laptop motherboard.

I have no other choice than to scrap it then and get a new laptop.

If you do not have enough cash present at the moment to get a new laptop, you can still take it for repairs, it will cost only a little amount of money, you will be able to make use of it for your programming, web design, projects and coding work. But will be temporary solution as the system might still develop faults later, it will last you for another one year.

Another angle to look at.
I will pay for a repair if the cost ain't that much @#10k or around that.
Before the end of the year I should have saved enough for a new laptop.

Thanks for the advice man.

You said it's not booting to windows, your hard disk may need replacement, if you don't have enough to spend, you can get a small hard disk, may be 160gb, it Is less than 4k, insert it and install windows, you will be fine, don't scrap the system yet, it is expensive now... I can help you fix it, if you can come to Ojo alaba, you can mail me

if it is not booting to windows, that's a minor thing, it's software issue, i think he said it is not booting, not powering on at all, but normally the laptop will still charge and the usb ports can still charge phones

You can only come on Friday, market opens monday, Wednesday and Friday, please let me understand the issue again, is it that it doesn't power on or can't boot to windows?

Please I may not be able to help, best thing to do will be for you to get a new board, since you have worked on the Bios chip before, you said it doesn't power on, get a new board to avoid other issues or swap the System

It doesn't power on.
Even when it did power on (before last week), the windows wasn't booting.

Ok man, is swapping a spoilt system possible?
Maybe scrapping it would be my best bet.
Or repair and then sell it off for a better one.
Thanks for your inputs bro.

Yes, you can swap the system and add some money to get you a core i3 or i5, that will be 2nd gen or 3rd gen, and if you have someone you can trust the system can still fetch you close to 30k but you will be patient, that is if the casing is still neat, keyboard with light working and a good screen and your 4gb ram...

You already have a great system specs, an intel core i7, 5th generation 2.6ghz processor speed, your system is faster and it is even an Hp elitebook. swapping it would only downgrade you, because you won't get a better offer, you will only end up getting a lower system specs like an core i3 or i5. of 2nd generation. is better you repair it, or sell it, save money, add it and even get a higher specs system than that one.

Thanks man though "close to 30k" looks kinda too small for me. I am going to repair it then (if the cost isn't too much). Or swap if the repair cost is too much. The casing and keyboard (with back lights) and other parts are relatively neat and it even comes with a touch screen. All in all, I need to visit a good computer engineer first before I make my final decision.
Once again, I appreciate all your answers and suggestions. God bless you man.

Yeah man, I think I am gonna go for a repair then. Just need to scan around for a good computer engineer and pay up if the cost isn't too much.
I appreciate all your suggestions, God bless you man. "Thanks"
