I stand by my earlier statement. the VP should go to the public and defend himself and forget about using his office to involve the police, which will be seen as stifling free speech.

The professor of law knows better. In the 2015 presidential election, the VP and his crew accused former President GEJ of all sorts of crimes which are widely documented, GEJ spoke to the press and debunked the allegations, that’s what a public officer does.

Free speech indeed. The same folks who said they wanted to see Osinbajo disgraced are now complaining he is trying to clear his name?
If you are accused of a crime you go to the police to clear your name not to the public.

You see everything from the lens of PDP and APC. The VP can clear his name by telling us if it truly happened or not. Is he afraid of answering questions from the press?

The burden of proof is on the accuser. Defamation of character is a crime.
The press doesn't clear you from prosecution. He has been accused of a serious crime. It is the turn of the accuser to support his claims.

Now I read in another report where the said Jackson allegedly lied about Kiki Osinbajo and she defended herself. That’s how to do it. Don’t be running to the IG of Police to stifle his free speech, publicly defend yourself so he can be shamed for his lies. Kiki did it better than his father

The OP should be embarrassed by his own senselessness.

Only a criminal is afraid of the tenets of the law.

Osinbajo is a lawyer, and he will seek redress in the legal system.

Stop crying on behalf of the false accuser.

You’re supporting the people who scammed you. I don’t think Hushpuppi’s victims would do that.

I don't understand your logic. If someone said you robbed a bank wouldn't you ask him to provide the evidence? Would you just reply by saying you didn't even when people listening to both of you have no way of knowing whether you are telling the truth or not?
Evidence is the way to clear yourself and that burden of evidence is on the accuser.

VP Osinbajo is the Vice President with so much influence and powers, writing the IG of Police will be seen as using his influence to stifle free speech. He needs to publicly defend himself and dismiss the allegations, and if it continues then he can initiate a lawsuit. Or better still, sue the blogger to court and leave the IG out of this matter

Anyone, even you can write to the IG. You can even write to the president, it is all within your rights as a citizen.
The Vice president is not above the law, he is just like you and I when it comes to crimes.
He is doing the right thing to clear his name.
Anyway, you should be more concerned about the accuser backing up what he said.

Certainly not true. The Vice President is the second most powerful citizen in the country. His letter to the IG of Police carries the official seal of the office of the Vice President of Nigeria, and will be treated like a direct order.

Direct order to do what? Only the courts can decide whether a crime has been committed or not. Perhaps because of his position he couldn't go to the local police station to lodge a complaint like you and I.
But still he did the right thing by informing the police that his reputation is being attacked.
The blogger is not a victim here, all he needs to do is back up his allegations and he can go home and Osinbajo will get impeached and go to jail.

The issue has been over-flogged. I hear you though. I’m just not a fan of this government. Press freedom should be preserved no matter how it hurts.

My point is, we should join hands and preach responsible free speech rather than support the people who want to stifle it

Baseless allegations and smear campaign is not journalism. Journalists are supposed to present facts and not something they made up while eating donuts in a cafe somewhere.
