Movie : Sugar Rush
Genre : Comedy, Crime
Director : Kayode Kasum
Writers : Bunmi Ajakaiye, Jade Osiberu
Running Time - 120 minutes
Language : English , Yoruba, Ibo
Release Date : 25 December ,2019

.
After an impressive Run in the Nigeria music scene that produced and engineered the success of Artistes like Wizkid , Shaydee and Skales , Empire Mates Entertainment along side Jungle Filmworks and GreOH media decided to collaborate with writer and producer Jade Osiberu to produce the Comedy Movie and fourth highest grossing Nollywood movie of all time " Sugar Rush ".

The story starts with the Sugar Sisters , the trio of Bimbo Ademoye ( Bola Sugar) , Bisola Aiyeola ( Sola Sugar) and Adesua Etomi Wellington ( Susie Sugar) being held up and tortured by an unknown boss lady who is later identified as Gina, daughter of Chief Douglas from whom the sisters stole a staggering sum of 800 thousand dollars ..She gives them a mission to steal the money back for her and she would spare their lives .

In Summary, , the entire story revolves around the sum of 800 hundred thousand dollars stolen from Corrupt politician Chief Douglas Ikoyi house by Sola Sugar and Susie Sugar by a stroke of luck , , the hunt for the Sisters and the money by both the good and Bad Effc officals , the attempt of Sola Sugar Vagabond boyfriend, Andy to dissapear with the money and the climax at the final showdown to steal the money from one of the angerous politicians in the country ,Mr Anikulapo.

Ghen Ghen Ghen, the movie is giving you the typical Hollywood vibe abi ? Eeyah , just wait .

Strong Points

Beautiful Cinematography .This is an aspect most Nollywood films have improved on in the last four years and Sugar Rush doesn't fall short in that aspect. The production and Other aspects of the movie like sound , visual effects and lightning are all excellent .Lateef Adedimeji plays a brilliant role as comical destitute who strikes gold at the end of the movie . His interpretation of the role of a Lagos based Ibo man is excellent . Other notable performances include Uzor Arukwe as knight ( he had to change his voice to be very " igbotic', and he did exceedingly well especially the scene he came to ask for the money from the Susie Sisters ) , William Uchemba as Obum ,Tobi Bakre as Andy and Adesua Etomi as Susie Sugar . The movie explores the theme of corruption and power and no doubts , passed the message well of the corrupt nature of our security agencies ( EFCC in this instance ) and the power play evident in Nigerian politics .

Weak Points

The inclusion of juju and the Matrix styled " bullet stopping " display By BankyW at the tail end of the movie in my opinion is totally unnecessary . If you looking for a solid storyline and brilliant diialogue , Sugar rush is not for you , it's mainly a fun movie with a lot of giggles and laughs.. The casting could have been way way better . Bimbo Ademoye ( Bola Sugar) essentially overexxagerated her character , BankyW could have done better likewise Toke Makinwa. The three of them gave below par Performances. Besides , who deleted the video of The Susie Sisters from the Efcc guy's laptop ? .

Final Verdict

For a movie in the comedy genre , Sugar Rush sure evokes laughter . Without much emphasis on dialogue and proper casting, ,Sugar rush takes the viewers on a fun ride with a sprinkle of politics, fiction and Crime . With an acceptable performance from the three major characters , Sugar Rushi is sure not a bad movie at all.
Score : 6.5/10 .

I bet the Nigerian movie industry(Nollywood) has the capacity to dethrone the great Bollywood and Hollywood only if they will start acting Gospel/Christian Movies..........

If that movie returns to cinema 20 different times, it will sell. I've watched it like 6 times. You will laugh and fall off from the chair, besides that it's also full of lessons.

Nollywood has improved in recent times. I will definitely try and get this movie. The best of their movies I have seen in recent times is Living in Bondage: Breaking free and God Calling. I love those movies.

God FORBID that I use my money to go see a Nigerian Movie drama at the cinema.
Call me unpatriotic, I don't care. It's not reasonable for me to watch a Nigerian substandard drama with the same amount I watch quality foreign movies.

The lazy idǐots acting "Siddon talk" kind of movie-dramas will expect to use a million naira to make nonsense movie and get one MILLION DOLLARS in return.

They want to earn the same amount and be recognised like the hardworking foreign actors but they can not be creative to give quality stuff out.

LAZY THIEVES!

A balanced review perhaps. Won't disagree. A movie has done enough, if you get one or two laughs from it. But Sugar Rush struggles to entertain you sometimes. It attacks common sense, and takes away your life or time in exchange for so little or rather, you come out worsened from the movie.

If you want something to help you brood, just go to the library and if you want something to help you laugh, just watch Mr Bean, or re-watch the dense and witless Jenifa's diary, that is how much the movie fails.

Certainly, there were some point in the movie, where if the whole movie were to be half that trajectory, it would have been a little great. Like the point where Tobi Bakre character ceases. The character of Bola Sugar however does a terrible disservice to that scene and other scenes she appears where the one or two laughs you may get from the movie, she steals it from you...her character is so exaggerated that it becomes unreasonable, and annoying. The same with Uchemba Williams character. Maybe they were both supposed to play dumb, but they were dumb at playing dumb.

The whole movie, introduces you to potential, and then disappoint you, that you feel it is better listening and watching Buhari than watching the movie or listening to the dialogue of the movie, if you keep the movie mute, you may be better off. If you have taste, and conscience, and you are earning salary, don't watch... use that money for weed or charity...however if you are as rich as Otedola, and you have a life as long as Methuselah, then you can watch the movie. If I pay you N10,000 just to make you watch this movie, I have cheated you. 3/10.
