Please I need advice from you guys,
I received a credit alert of #100,000 last week from my bank, the description of the the alert reads reversal. I knew the money wasn't mine but I immediately transfer the money to another bank account of mine and cleared all the money I had in that particular bank. After another 30 hours, the bank didn't call me but the removed the money from the empty account, leaving the account on negative (-#100,000).
Please do I need to be worry?

Modified :
The reasons I don't intend return the money is because my wife mistakenly sent a money to someone by missing just a digits on the account number late last year, we immediately called the bank, the bank refused to do anything and claim the recipient had withdraw the money immediately, they also refused to disclose the guy phone number, because we intend to call the guy and plead, even if he can refund half of the money.

This same bank that put my account on negative, why can't they put that same guy account on negative by reversal.

If your bank wants to take action, they can deduct it from any account linked to that BVN. CBN's policy allows them to do that.

I don’t see any atom of truth in this your post. You said ur wife missed a number and the money was sent to another person right? That’s a fat lie!

Before U transfer, the app will bring out the person’s name and if the account is incorrect, they’ll write error.

So how was your wife able to succeed in such transaction.

Oga return the money the bank sent to your account if at all the story wasn’t cooked up

You are a thief. You and hushpuppy are just the same. What do you teach your children at home about stealing?

Your BVN has already shown the transfer history of that money and your attempt at stealing money which belongs to someone else. You think you are smart. You think you are better than the NIBSS and CBN IT guys abi? You are smarter than the people in charge of a country's banking system and all the operators and operations within that system?

You go learn the hard way. Criminal.

No need to call him a criminal as he is requiring simple info on why a bank would put his account on negative due to a money sent to him in error.

Op we get that you are still mad at your bank for not taking action when you called them on a case of mistaken transfer.

The reason your account now reads -N100,000 is most likely because the mistake was from the bank itself. If a customer made this mistake, it would take a while lot of legal process to get the money from you by first initiating calls and SMS before setting your account on negative if all actions prove abortive.

So kindly, return the money and have peace of mind. Although they won't trouble you now until in about 6 months time or later with first an invite to the bank, then a follow up and eventually BVN tracking and auto-reversal from linked BVN banks.

Cheers OP, no let your mistake cloud your future actions and decisions towards circumstances.

You are shifting goal post now cheesy what you claimed was that the bank can debit any of your account as the guy was wrongly credited and I said its a lie. Perpaps you do not understand the simple element of banking or Fin 101. What happened here is a banking error, the onus is on the bank to credit the other party. If the guy refues to pay them, hemay close the account for all I care, the bank wont do s*hit. Do you even know how many bank fraud that are unreported especially GTB. Lolz, man dont argue what you don't know. Read the practice of banking.

Bros, return the money before your BVN gets Whitelisted.
In your wife's case, she did a transfer on her own which no one can tell the business relationship with the recipient. Even if the recipient did not clear out the funds, the bank will require his written consent to reverse the money to the sender. If he declines, there is nothing anyone can do. At most they will put a lien on the amount while it remains in his account but they will not return the money to you. Saying it's a mistake is your word against his. What if he says there was an underlying business which he has fulfilled. The bank will then be dragged into the dispute. Furthermore, the bank cannot give out their customers contact details to you due to customer confidentiality rights. Best bet would have been to involve security agencies who will then use judicial processes to obtain any information necessary for their investigation.

In your case, the error was definitely committed by the bank. So they will just put your account in debit, credit the correct account and declare a shortage. I'm sure they will reach out to you for recovery.
They can but will not use BVN to debit your other account, because you did not give them a right of offset as in the case of obtaining a loan. They will not also ask the other bank for refunds/chargeback as they did not initiate the transfer. So, if they cannot persuade you to refund, they will just report the incident to CBN and request for a BVN whitelist as you will be seen as fraudulent.

Believe me, you don't want that because it has far reaching consequences.

Like someone said up there, your wife's case is a lie.

You can't transfer to a wrong account number because the mobile app or USSD won't allow you perform the transfer.

And OP claimed his wife missed a digit.

If this is true, then it means the original account number she wants to transfer to is 11 digits.

But even with this, The name of the person you're transferring to will still be displayed to you before the transfer happens.

As for OPs account being negative, OP is most likely using UBA.

You have to options, either refund the money or close the account.

But if you choose the later, then you're nothing more than a thief.

Oga, I had this mindset until something similar happened to me.

I sent 200k to my access bank account last week. I was super careful and everything.

The transaction was successful, but no alert for 24 hours, nor was I credited.

I was confused, went to my app to check my transaction history. Guess what, instead of access bank, they were showing me First Bank.

I never in any way put FBN. Even if I did, it wasn't supposed to go through.

Technical issues can happen bro. Anyway, the transaction was reversed after I contacted customer care.

my broda forget ds holy holy servants ooo , no b say dem no get der own for body.
Banks on several occasions will take ds cash back from you and won't credit the owner so who gained?
My advice is just forget abt d bank and never use it for any transaction again, after all na just 100k d stress of taking police n banned the account is wat de consider together and sama u negative balance.
As far as am concerned, you are safe and only wen cash enter dat account is wen de can take it and de will take every penny in dt account untill der 100k complete.
My 4k from uba to a wrong account up till now I no see am d same way de will place d owner account on negative balance and never pay me.
