Re: Please Great Chemists and Chemistry Genius Help by Babamide(m):
From the little I can remember.
Longest carbon chain = 7
Functional group = triple bond
Triple bond is on the 3rd carbon.
So we have Hept-3-yne
2 methyls attached to the 2nd carbon
Ethyl attached to the 5th carbon
Methyl attached to the 6th carbon.
Something is also attached to the 5th carbon which I am confused about.
So we have
2,2-dimethyl, 5-ethyl 5-(confused), 6-methyl Hept-3-yne.
Someone else should come and continue.

I'm thinking that is 5-butane, 6-methyl.

Thanks you actually opened my eyes, you are good
I need more contribution
Re: Please Great Chemists and Chemistry Genius Help by ksk4love(m):
5-(1-tertbutyl)-5-ethyl-2,2,6-trimethylhept-3-yne....in naming organic compounds, the correct naming is that with the lowest sum.....in my case, 5+5+2+2+6= 20.....if there is any naming lower than 20, then it is correct. At carbon 5, there is a substituent that is connected to another substituent at carbon 1.

ksk4love:
5-(1-tertbutyl)-5-ethyl-2,2,6-trimethylhept-3-ene
Please sir can you explain the 5-(1-tertbutyl) aspect and remember it's triple bond so it cannot be hept-3-ene rather hept-3-yne
Re: Please Great Chemists and Chemistry Genius Help by Babamide(m): 11:56pm On May 19, 2020
If the arrow is the longest carbon chain
1 is propyl
2 is Ethyl
3 is di methyl
That gives
2,2 dimethyl, 5 Ethyl, 5 propyl, 6,6 dimethyl, Hept-3-yne

Please sir can you explain?

Please sir can you explain?
using the diagramatic flow above my post by babamide,..... u will understand it, if the understand that the numbering started from the right side of ur phone screen... which make it it hept-3-yne...so the counting started from the closest end to the triple bond

Noted....sorry, it was a typographical mistake

Please, I have some questions about your naming.
1. Is that substituent qualified to be called propyl or isopropyl?
2. Isn't it a substituent in a substituent?
3. Shouldn't it be 5-(1-methylethyl)?
4. After numbering with regards to the closeness to the functional group, shouldn't the position of the substituent matter next by looking for a structure that gives the substituent the lowest sum?

Best regards
