That Bible verse about an Eternal sin is one of the most misunderstood Bible verses.

First of all, no sin can be forgiven except the person realizes his sin and asks for forgiveness.

Now, what does that verse mean?

That verse was specifically referring to the sons of perdition. There are two kinds of sons of perdition.

1. Those who are destined to be destroyed. An example is Judas Iscariot. This appears unfair, but the Ways of God are not our ways.

2. Those who willfully and continually resist the Holy Spirit and publicly deny Christ. This set of people is the one Jesus Christ was referring to in that verse.

Here was Stephen referring to that second set of sons of perdition.

They are described as stiff-necked or stubborn (in some Bible verses). Even if Jesus Christ Himself were to come down today, and convinced them with different powerful undeniable signs and wonders, they would still resist Him.

Paul committed some really terrible sins against Christians before he was himself converted. I am sure that during all those times, he must have blasphemed the Holy Spirit, and questioned the Sonship of Christ. Yet, God forgave him and used him in his own little ways of propagating the Gospel to the Gentiles.
