Many residents were trapped as a building collapsed in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State on Friday.

It was gathered that the building is situated opposite the Health Centre Ebute Metta along Cemetery Street.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident.

He, however, did not disclosed whether any casualty was recorded as of the time of filing this report.

“Our personnel are on ground at the scene and rescue operation is ongoing,” Okunbor briskly said when contacted by our correspondent.

Updated report on building collapse at 95, Abeokuta Street by Cemetry, Ebute Metta

The agency received a distress call at about 1.10pm. Upon arrival at the scene of incident, it was discovered that a three storey building collapsed with as yet undetermined cause.

Agency Responders, LRU Ambulance unit, Lasambus, LABSCA, Material Testing Agency,LASG fire service, Police, IKEDC are joint responders at the scene of incident.

Search , Rescue And Recovery operations carried out and an adult female (approximately 30 years) has been rescued from the rubble using the agency’s DELSA equipment. Victim has been transferred to hospital.

The area has been cordoned off, adjacent buildings are being checked for any damage.

Nigeria Government have never been proactive on some sensitive issues...
Housing law and codes should be observed in some bigger states especially Lagos being the largest city in Africa.

Somebody reading this now has once prayed for his rented apartment to collapse because his rent will soon be due or he is owing rent and doesnt know where to get the money from.
